The Inside Out Library: Scale, Learning, Engagement (Jan 2012)
In the Googlized world
1. Discovery has scaled to the network level
2. Personal and institutional curation services = central to research
3. Management of bibliographic data = part of user workflows, e.g. social reading, citation management, resource guides
4. Library users have more choices for creating environments customized to their needs, to develop personal libraries connect to network level reservoirs of data and services
5. Libraries, in turn, need to be part of this activity as much as managing their own domain

Representing Non-Standard Content
Business Data – Issues Encountered
1) Quality of material suited for DS? Unstructured data – body of content, metadata No standard identifiers like ISBN, ISSN, DOI, etc.
2) Sufficient functionality brought to data? What is the capability of technology? How is user best served?
3) How can data be best USED, not just IDENTIFIED?
4) Is specialized data the “right” material for DS? Can users und erstand and work with data
appropriately?
5) What is the role of librarians re. specialized data and resources?
