The controversial decision by Wildrose Party LeaderBrian Jean to implement a suspension from caucus on

his Strathmore-Brooks representative was lifted May 31, when he reinstated Derek Fildebrandt to the Wildrosecaucus after the incident caused an outcry of supportacross the province for the shadow finance critic andraised questions about the party’s instability. Wildrose MLA Derek Fildebrandt had been at the

centre of criticism in the past over comments made onsocial media, but faced a severe slap on the wrists lastFriday when he replied to a message left on Facebook by one of his constituents that contained a transphobicremark. The Fildebrandt supporter applauded the politician

for his work in the legislature, then referred to theOntario Premier Kathleen Wynne as Mr. followed by astatement that questioned her gender identification, andthen acknowledged the pride he felt for having Fildeb-randt as his MLA. In response, Fildebrandt replied to be-

ing equally proud to having this individual as a constitu-ent. When light was shed on the homophobic comment,Fildebrandt quickly apologized for his reply, stating hehad made a mistake by not reading the message prop-erly, that it was inappropriate, and assured the provincesuch opinions did not align with his personal views. The incident occurred only a day after Fildebrandt an-

nounced in the legislature that “Ontario currently facesthe largest subnational sovereign debt on the planet”and referred to it as a failed government. He furtherquestioned why Alberta had invited Premier Wynne, who was sitting in the Speaker’s gallery at the time, in-stead of neighbouring Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall– questions which had been written and approved byParty Leader Jean himself, the Strathmore-Brooks Con-stituency Association said.

“This was absolutely ridiculous, Derek did nothingseriously wrong and at the very least this was a mas-

sive overreaction or at worst a backroom political pow-er-play to get rid of Derek,” said Ronda Klemmensen,president of the Strathmore-Brooks Constituency Asso-ciation.

“All his major critics in these areas accepted the apol-ogy. Obviously Derek had massive support in our con-stituency as well as right across Alberta. This left him nochoice but to end this outrageous political game. I and Wildrose members and supporters are delighted thatDerek was fully reinstated to the Wildrose caucus. It’sthis sort of thing that unfortunately keeps really goodpeople out of Politics.”

Klemmensen was among no fewer than seven otherconstituency association presidents that signed a letterto the executive committee that called for the immediatereinstatement of Fildebrandt to the caucus.

A common goal brought a handfulof members of various organizationstogether in the past to organize eventsthat recognize and celebrate seniors inStrathmore and its surrounding areaduring the provincially-acknowledgedSeniors’ Week – an initiative that hasgrown in popularity and programs overthe last three years.

Representatives from StrathmoreFCSS, the Growing Family Society,

Happy Gang, the Strathmore MunicipalLibrary, Alberta Health Services, andHope Bridges Society formed a com-mittee three years ago to address issuesthat arose from a lack of organization,collaboration and scheduling in dealing with the event. As a result, the commit-tee worked together seamlessly to in-crease programming and create a fun-filled week for the seniors in the area– momentum the committee continuedto utilize this year by adding more or-ganizations and programs to the week-long event.

“We want to make sure that there’ssomething for everyone this year, andevery year we try to grow and do differ-ent things,” said Dahrlyne Knaus, FCSS

programmer.“It was even more organized [this

year] because we all know what we wanted to do and what needed to be

done, and it’s just a matter of having afew meetings.”

Organizations began prepping forSeniors’ Week over four months ago, which will feature previously offeredprograms such as Chair Yoga, GettingCrafty with my Grandparent, Strawber-ry Tea, and Shred-it. Expanding on theline-up, seniors will have an opportuni-ty to take part in Paint and Tea – a dif-ferent take on the trendy Paint Nights– Morning Guided Meditation, ZumbaGold, and educational programmingsuch as an End of Life Issues presen-tation and KARE Volunteer Driver Pro-gram Information Session. That FitnessPlace and the HEAL walking group areamong new organizations involved this year.

Once again, an application was sub-mitted for the kick-off ceremonies to be held in Strathmore, which wouldinclude the awarding of grant money,a ribbon cutting ceremony, and vis-its from officials to signal the start tothe event across Alberta. However, thecommittee remained unsuccessful. Byoffering more programs and buildingon their success, some members hopeit will increase their chances in thefuture. Partnering on the project, theStrathmore Municipal Library is offer-

ing three free programs to seniors, thatmake up 21 per cent of the Strathmorepopulation, and remain optimistic thatStrathmore will host the kick off in the

near future.“Strathmore is very family focused

and that’s very wonderful, but I thinkit’s really good to have a week that’sdedicated to the seniors of our commu-nity and we want them to feel specialand have a good time that week,” saidCarmen Erison, assistant director withthe Strathmore Municipal Library anda committee since the committee’s in-ception.

“I think as our momentum grows andthe province starts to see how manymore events we are going to be hav-ing through the week, it will definitelygarner some attention and hopefully we can get the kick-off some day. We’restill striving for that as a committee.” The Town of Strathmore initiative

REC the Streets will also be runningthroughout the month of June in cho-rus with Seniors’ Week, which will runfrom June 6-12. All programs are freeto attend.

THE TOWN OF STRATHMORE HAS RECENTLY DEVELOPED A

PUBLIC ARTS BOARD.

The Public Arts Board, an advisory committee to Council, is responsible to

advocate for public art, advise on public art policies, procedures, guidelines,

plans and issues as they relate to the Town of Strathmore, and provide

support to Administrative staff and programs.

The Public Arts Board will:

• Develop a Public Art Master Plan

• Advise on public art policies and guidelines• Promote awareness and understanding of the importance of

public art• Participate in the implementation of the Public Art Master Plan

and individual public art project plans• Participate in the periodic review of the Public Art Master Plan

• Advise the Town on adjudication process for commissioningand acquiring public art

• Advise the Town on maintenance and management of thePublic Art Collection

• Evaluate proposed public art donations• Develop and implement a communications framework• Provide advice on the decommissioning of public art

The Town of Strathmore is now seeking four (4) members of the public with

a background in the following to sit on this committee:

“Bleeding out” is a term used to describe death from

wounds where the bleeding is not stopped in time.

There is work being done on a new product that is an

anti-bleeding gel that will be applied to a wound and

will instantly stop bleeding. The product works well

inside and outside the body and will stop bleeding

within 10 seconds. Should be available in about 2

years.

With everyone being touched by cancer themselves

or someone they know, it seems that no progress is

being made toward stopping the disease. There’s new

research occurring that works to retrain the body’s

immune system to attack cancer cells in those withblood cancers. Quite good results have been seen so

far.

There is a slangy term for people who are obsessed

with having a really dark tan because they don’t feel

right being too pale. The term is tanorexic. Serious

cases of this pseudo-clinical condition has people

using tanning beds and exposing themselves to the sun

for long periods of time. Too much sun-exposure can

cause skin cancers. Tan sensibly and use sunscreen.

Allergy sufferers are reminded that pollen is plentiful

at this time of year. Keep your windows and doors

closed. Dry clothing and bedding in the dryer rather

than hang them outside. Use air-conditioning to cool

your home rather than window or attic fans. Also pets

can collect pollen in their fur so keep them off your

bed. Pollen counts are highest in the early morning.

“I’m happy to be fully reinstated to the Wildrosecaucus,” Fildebrandt told the Strathmore Times. “Po-litical drama doesn’t help anybody. I was honoured

with the outpouring of support from constituentsand party members right across Alberta. I felt alone

when this first happened, but I’m honest to Godtouched by the support I’ve received. Now It’s timeto work and focus on providing a strong viable al-ternative to the NDP.” Jean announced he had been transparent in the

past about his stance regarding no tolerance forcomments regarding intolerance of any individualand possible significant consequences for such mis-takes. He further said that Fildebrandt had a longseries of missteps on social media and the latestincident was inconsistent with values of the cau-

cus. However, he did mention that Fildebrandt didapologize for the comment and thanked him for theapology. A statement was issued by the Wildrose Party ear-

lier this week announcing the caucus had voted tolift the suspension effective immediately. Accord-ing to the statement, Fildebrandt agreed to improveon how he handles and controls his social media,

which includes hiring a social media manager todeal with public interactions.

“Derek is an important member of our Wildroseteam and we all expect him to have a bright fu-ture within our organization,” said Wildrose LeaderBrian Jean.

“Along with our entire Wildrose team and the broader conservative family, we look forward toDerek joining us once again to work on building aunited conservative alternative that invites and at-tracts Albertans from all backgrounds who believein smaller government, strong families an safe com-munities.”

Strathmore is gearing up for itsthird annual Let’s Make a Pitchevent, which will focus on revi-talization and community pride. While it serves as an oppor-

tunity for non-profit groups topitch an idea that will help toimprove the town and the com-munity, the organizers continue

to look for sponsors for the prizemoney.

“Each year we chose a differ-ent theme and the groups canapply on the online applica-tions,” said Kendra Armstrong,the community events assistantfor the Town of Strathmore.

“The big incentive is that thereis a cash prize that is given andthe hope is to have $10, 000.” The event is based on the pop-

ular TV show; Dragons’ Den. The

judges, who have yet to be cho-sen, will evaluate the projectson three key aspects: how theyenhance community engage-ment; how they inspire change;and how they strengthen Strath-more’s community pride andquality of life.

Each group is given three min-utes to present their project ideato the panel of judges. The win-ning team will receive a cash

prize in order to help them ac-complish their project but theamount of money is dependenton sponsorships.

Last year’s theme was strength-ening quality of life and promot-ing pride within the communityand the winners were the West-ern District Historical Society

who proposed to move the St.Michaels and all Angels AnglicanChurch building in town andtransform it into a museum and

offices. As the winners they will attend

the event this year in order togive an update on their progress. The event was the brainchild

of Strathmore’s then-Chief Ad-ministrative Officer DwightStanford who had experienceda similar event by the TalismanEnergy at the Economic Devel-opers Conference in 2014.

at the Strathmore Travelodge onOctober 4 at 7 p.m. and appli-cations will be accepted untilSeptember 20 at noon. While theapplicants have to be non-profitgroups, Armstrong encouragesthe public to go out to the eventsto see what projects are show-cased. Ralph’s grandparents, August and Lottie Tiede, with their sonLeslie, moved from Gifford, Idaho to the Colonization Colonynorth of Rockyford, in 1917. After spending a year here, they purchased land at SW 15-24-

23 which was located on what is now the TransCanada High- way, at Rockyford Corner, and later became known as “Tiede’sCorner.”

After farming there for two years, they moved to Gleichen tolive and work, before returning to their own farm. In 1927, theMidway Service Station was established, and became a land-mark for travelers, even being shown on AMA Road Maps.

REMEMBERING OUR ROOTS ~ Ralph and Joan TiedeLeslie known as Les, worked on the family farm,

as well as providing custom seeding, irrigating andcombining, in the area. He met his wife-to-be, An-nie, while she was working for the H. Scheer family,and they were married in 1935. Annie had been ad-opted by the John Friesen family afteremigrating from a German village closeto Moscow, Russia. They were amongseveral families who settled in the Na-maka District. In 1938 they began farm-

ing on their own, the same year theirson Ralph was born. Ralph and his twosisters, Anne and Linda, were raised onthe family farm and educated at the Na-maka School through Grade 9, whenthey moved to Samuel Crowther HighSchool. Ralph attended and graduatedfrom Olds School of Agriculture, aftertaking the two-year course. Joan’s (nee Muirhead) family origi-

nated in Stirling, Scotland. Her father John travelled to Canada in 1910 witha shipment of purebred Clydesdale horses. He

worked on a farm in the Claresholm area beforemoving to Sedgewick, (50 miles east of Camrose, onHwy 13). In 1915, he enlisted in the Canadian Army,and served in France during WW1. He married Eliz-abeth Haines of Sussex, England before returning

to Canada with his bride, in 1920. They purchasedland six miles south of Sedgewick, and farmed therefor many years before John became an auctioneer,and they moved into town. Joan was born in Killam,

Alta. in 1938, and had four sisters and two broth-ers. She was raised and educated in Sedgewick, andfinished Grade 12 at Central High School, beforemoving to Calgary where she attended the Hender-son Business College, then became a secretary atCalgary Power Ltd. Joan and Ralph met while she

was visiting her sister Kay and family, who lived inthe Standard area. They were married on Nov. 14,1959. In the Spring of 1960, they moved to the farmat ‘Tiede’s Corner,’ as Ralph’s parents had moved toStrathmore where Les became the manager of theStrathmore Seed Cleaning Plant. Apart from farming, Ralph owned and operated

a school bus in the Crowfoot District, while Joan worked at The Royal Bank in Strathmore.

During this time, Ralph’s keen desire to become apilot materialized, and he obtained his private pilot’slicense on April 5, 1965. This date happened to co-incide with the birth of their son, Darren, so Ralphcelebrated by flying his plane along the Bow River,

past the Calgary General Hospital.Ralph and Joan were active members of Alberta

Flying Farmers, and attended many fly-ins around Alberta. After attaining sufficient flying experience,he obtained his commercial and night flying en-

dorsements. He then purchased aPiper Pawnee spray plane and be-gan working with George Nicklas-sen in the Rosebud and Hussar ar-eas, followed by working with Neil

McClain, who farmed and ran anaerial spraying operation west ofStrathmore. They provided invalu-able instruction in the art of aerialapplication. The next great event intheir lives occurred on March 23rd,1969 when their daughter Shelagh

was born. They enjoyed living andraising their family in the CrowfootDistrict. The family moved to a farm pre-

viously owned by Jack and VirginiaColpoys in 1973, where they continued grain farm-ing and aerial application, and they started a Limou-sin Cattle herd. Around this time, they formed Target

Airspray Ltd when son Darren and his wife Cheryl both took an interest in the farming operation andaerial application. They have a family of two sons

and two daughters.Ralph and Joan retired in 2010, and Target Air-spray Ltd and the farm are now owned and oper-ated by Darren and Cheryl. Ralph will celebrate 50

years of Aerial Application in 2016. He and Joan areespecially grateful for the neighbours and customers

who have supported them in business and friend-ships throughout the years. They also appreciate themany reliable and capable men and women whohave worked with them in all their endeavours. Their daughter, Shelagh, is married to Doug Win-

kler, a farmer who farms near Indus. Shelagh is ateacher at Langdon where they live with their twinsons and a daughter.

Ralph and Joan have been active in church andcommunity affairs, have served on the board of theCanadian Aerial Applicators Association, Alberta Fly-ing Farmers, Strathmore Masonic Lodge #53, AlbertaLimousin Association and the Crowfoot Community

Association.Great advances have been made over the years

in aerial application with the invention of the GPS, which has streamlined the navigational part of theindustry.

The Strathmore Municipal Library iscurrently holding an art exhibit show-casing the talent of several local art-ists from the Wheatland Society of Arts. The exhibit features the work ofeight artists, who range in style fromabstract to realism.

“What makes this quite unique isthat because we have several differentartists it is different styles of art,” saidCarmen Erison, the assistant directorof library services at the StrathmoreMunicipal Library.

“There are different techniques,everything from acrylics, to oils, tosketches. So it is quite a nice variety.”

So far the feedback of the exhibitionhas been positive, as Erison believesthat people enjoy seeing the differentkinds of art. The artists from the Wheatland Soci-

ety of Arts vary in age and experience. The library is showcasing the workof new artists and those more experi-enced in the field.

“We have always been a big support-er of local art,” said Erison.

“To be able to partner with the Wheatland Society of Art was kind ofa good move given that it is good ex-posure for their group as well as expo-sure for these artists. We have allowedthem to be in a nicer, unique setting.”

The art exhibition began in May and will run until the end of June. The library decided to run the exhibitionduring this time and work with thisgroup of artists in order to tie in withsenior week. This would allow for theart to get more exposure, while allow-ing the audience to enjoy the varietyof pieces on show.

In the past the library featured localartists of varying styles and abilities.Erison said artists who would like todisplay their art or art photographycan contact at the Strathmore Munici-pal Library at 403.934.5440.

Crowther Memorial Junior HighSchool will soon say goodbye to Prin-cipal Ivan Wright, who is set to retire atthe end of the school year, making himthe third Strathmore principal within

the Golden Hills School District to re-tire this year. After 33 years of work-ing in education, Wright decided it was

just the right time to move on.“I figure I still am healthy and happy

so it’s time for a new challenge in life,”he said.

“So I have decided to retire and see what life holds. It is a little bit scary, alittle bit different and the older you getthe more difficult it is to see yourselfchanging but I think it is good for thesoul to do that every now and then.” Wright was born and raised in Sas-

katchewan, where he attended theUniversity of Saskatchewan and got hisfirst two degrees, a Bachelor of Educa-

tion and a Bachelor of Arts in LibrarySciences. He worked as a high schoolEnglish and Physical Education teacherand later as a school librarian. Wrightalso went to San Diego State and theUniversity of Lethbridge for his Mas-ter’s Degree in Education. Together with his family, they even-

tually moved to Alberta where he worked for a number of schools in thearea, before becoming the principal ofCrowther Memorial Junior High School

when it opened in 2001.Education was not always his pas-

sion. Wright grew up wanting to pur-sue a career as a NHL hockey player.He retained that first love throughouthis career by coaching hockey, basket-

ball, football, badminton and volley- ball.

Over the years, Wright watched ed-ucation shift and became part of thatchange. He remembers when comput-

ers were brought into classrooms andhow it allowed students to access the

world while sticking to the fundamen-tals of education.

“I can see that education has reallystepped up to the plate,” he said.

“To really differentiate and help stu-dents in all areas and so that is verydifferent from how it was when I firststarted.” While Wright has some things

planned for his retirement, he knowshe will miss the school and his long ca-reer in education. According to Wright,

what he will miss the most is the waythe students made him laugh everyday. Since announcing his departure,

Wright has received many heartfeltcomments and farewells.

Pat Walsh, one of the secretaries atthe school, is also retiring this year andhas worked alongside Wright for thepast 16 years.

“I have loved working with him,” shesaid.

“We have had lots of laughs like weare on fixed incomes now so we will

be sharing coupons, sites and thingslike that. But yeah there will be days

where I miss the kids and the peoplehere but I am looking forward to re-tirement too.”

Hundreds of students in the Strath-more and surrounding areas partici-pated in a rare hands-on learning op-portunity that aimed to educate the

youth on safety practices in rural Al- berta last week.

More than 330 Grade 6-9 studentsfrom Crowther Memorial Junior HighSchool, Carseland School, WestmountElementary School, Brentwood El-ementary School, and Rosebud RiverSchool, joined approximately 500 stu-

dents from across southern and cen-tral Alberta on May 26, for AltaLink’sFarm Safety Day – a program not of-fered previously.

“I don’t have all rural kids, but theydo go visit friends and it was a niceengaging way to show them safetyitems without preaching to them,”said Brentwood Elementary Grade 6B

Teacher Amy White, who said 60 kidsfrom both Grade 6 classes attendedthe event at the Stampede Park.

“We know rural areas and farmstend to give kids a little bit more re-sponsibility at a younger age so they’rearound those materials. For us, weare starting to see the independencecome out in our kids at that age and

they’re making those decisions alone,perhaps without supervision all thetime, so if they’re doing that withoutthe education behind it, it could be re-ally scary.” Alberta’s largest regulated electric-

ity transmission company, AltaLink,launched their first annual program

last week in partnership with the Cal-gary Stampede and Ag for Life, in con-cert with a rising number of accidentsin the province and discussions raisedaround topics of safety habits. Therefore, the event addressed key

topics including chemical handling,electrical utility safety, grain safety andconfined spaces, large equipment and

vehicles safety, and animal behaviour. According to White, her students

were most impacted by a dummy dem-onstration and simulation regardingseatbelt safety. Students also observedthe effects of an auger on newspaper

dummies, and were asked to walk astraight line while wearing impairmentglasses.

“I grew up in an agricultural com-munity and have seen the incredible

work ethic and can-do spirit rural Al- bertans bring to the work they do dayin and day out,” said Scott Thon, presi-dent and CEO of AltaLink.

“I am also aware of the complex na-ture of our agricultural operations andthe dangers associated with it. That’s

why AltaLink, in conjunction with theCalgary Stampede hosted Farm SafetyDay – to provide education and aware-ness to our youth on how to worksafety and prevent injuries.”

Farm Safety Day furthermore fea-

tured presentations by various speak-ers, a rollover simulator, and a dem-onstration on what happens whenclothing snags on farm machinery – inthis case a power take-off shaft.

Students from Trochu, Crossfield,Okotoks, Cochrane, and Arrowwood

were also present during the day.

Organizers of the 10th An-nual Shoot for the troopsdecided to do something alittle different this year anddonate to a charity that helps veterans with post-traumaticstress disorder (PTSD).

Usually the funds raisedduring the event are do-nated to the Calgary Mili-tary Family Resource Cen-tre to help military familiesdeal with the challenges ofhaving a parent in the mili-tary. However, this year, theevent, which took place onMay 14 at the StrathmoreRoyal Canadian Legion No.10 branch, raised $3,664 forthe Wounded Warrior Cana-

da and Can Praxis.Can Praxis aims to help

those suffering from PTSD

and other mental issues brought on by conflictthrough the therapeutichelp of horses.

“So we have a worthycause and we continue withthis cause next year,” saidSylvia Westgard, the deputydistrict commander of theStrathmore Royal CanadianLegion No. 10 branch.

“Of course this year witheverything else that has been going on in Fort Mc-Murray we still were ableto have 17 teams of threepeople.” This year’s event was suc-

cessful with the silent auc-tion having the best year in years and with the 50/50giveaway totaling $197.50.

nally started out as Shoot fora Cure, which raised moneyfor a cure for cancer.

Rosebud student turns poetry into theatreLAUREEN F. GUENTHER

Stuart Giesbrecht, a graduating stu-dent at Rosebud School of the Arts, per-forms his Final Project, The Court of myHeart, June 3-5 at Rosebud Church.

Giesbrecht and director Jeany VanMeltebeke have writtenand adapted the show

based on Giesbrecht’soriginal poetry.

Giesbrecht and fel-low student Esther Ko-epnick tell the storythrough poetry, musicand dance. Giesbrechtplays lead and Koepnickplays various roles, in-cluding performing herown music.

“It’s the story of a guy who is, at the start ofthe show, very much inthis place of self-doubtand shame,” Giesbrechtsaid. “He manages to

break out of that place and see his ownself-worth, and to look out and see whohe is and his purpose in life ... it’s verymuch my own journey.”

“The court of my heart is a place where I go to basically punish myself. Telling yourself you’re not good or that you’re not enough or that you’ll never be loved. That place where you’re beat-ing yourself up.

“There are themes in it that speak tothe kind of universal story of shameand doubt. Through telling my story ...I hope (others) will be able to see thatthey can step out of that place of doubtand shame as well.”

“I think we’re all in a similar place,”he said. “We’re all trying to make it, and

you know, we have to open ourselvesup to failing and to being broken andthen we can be broken together.”

In telling the story of how he’s grown,producing the show has fostered evenmore growth for Giesbrecht.

“What has helped me grow is realizingthat I’m not alone in my struggle,” he

said. “I’m not alone inasking for help or hav-ing shame and doubtabout myself. I’m notalone in that, and thatpeople are able and

willing to help.” And of course the

process has brought agreat deal of joy.

“Seeing my poetrykind of come togetheras a cohesive script, es-pecially under the guid-ance of my director andher inspiration and joy,”has been a joy, Gies-

brecht said. “Things thatgrow out of the words

(of my poetry) ... seeing them take rootand life and meaning in a play.”

He hopes audience members willleave this show with the same encour-agement he’s received.

“I hope people who come to the show will leave knowing they are not alonein their struggles with shame or doubt,that there is hope. There is help,” Gies-

brecht said. The Court of my Heart plays in Rose-

Steven Greene is just likeany other 23-year-old. Heloves football, playing guitarand helping his mom in thekitchen. But unlike others hisage, Greene is paralyzed from

the waist down and recentlyhad to have his left hip jointand femur removed due to a

bone infection. Having justreceived his new wheelchairthat is designed to accommo-date his situation he foundhe could no longer get intothe family’s current vehicle,

which has greatly reduced hisability to be independent. Af-ter exhausting their options,the family is now asking thecommunity for ways to orga-nize a fundraiser.

“I am just a regular guy,”said Greene.

“The only thing differentabout me is that I can’t walk.I just want to live life just likeany other person.”

Greene was born with Spi-na Bifida, a birth defect wherethe closing of the backboneand membranes around thespinal cord is incomplete. Af-ter years of sitting in a chairthat was to small he ended up

with pressure ulcers. In April2015 he developed osteomy-elitis, an inflammation of the

bone or bone marrow due toan infection, which eventuallyled to the removal of his hip

joint and femur.

After a 10-month stay inthe Foothills Hospital in Cal-gary, the Greene family foundthat Steven could no longerget himself in and out of thecar with his new and larger

wheelchair. As a result, thefamily found that they need a

wheelchair-accessible van. A

vehicle that will cost the fam-ily about $46,000- funds theyare unable to provide. Whilehe uses the Strathmore Han-diBus to get around to ap-pointments it costs them $60every time he goes out whichcan become rather costly overtime. Greene and his family

would l ike to have the free-dom to go where and whenthey want together. He wouldalso like to go to university,either for music or to furtherhis culinary passions. The family set up a Go-

FundMe page and has ap-proached a number of chari-ties for help. They will also

be taking part in the NewsyNeighbour’s 2nd Annual Get

To Know Your NeighbourFestival where they will behosting a dunk tank. The fam-ily is looking for help fromthe community; they need toraise about $10,000 more inorder to get the van.

“Steven should be able tolive the quality of live thathe should live,” said his momConnie Greene.

“Like any other 23-year-oldthat goes out and does whatthey choose to do. I want
