THIRTEEN SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A JUNE 28 2020
"Whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me" (v. 38)
Dear Fellow Christian, On this weekend Jesus teaches his disciples about the cost of discipleship. He calling each of us to carry a cross as Jesus took up his cross. What we have to do is to take up our cross and follow him. Following Jesus involves a dying to self. This process of dying to self begins at Baptism. Jesus preached a message of total renunciation for the sake of the kingdom. Nothing or no one must deter them from their dedication to Christ and his mission. Jesus knew that not every-one would accept the gospel his followers proclaimed. Even members of their families might be their adversaries. Those who wished to follow in Jesus' footsteps must be willing to put the gospel before all else, even their own lives. If they chose this difficult path they could be sure that they would share Jesus' destiny of persecution and suffering. Those who refused to "take up the cross" and follow him were "not worthy" of being his disciples (Mt 10:38). To be an authentic disciple of Jesus means embracing the suffering, humility, pain and selflessness of the cross; to be an authentic disciple of Jesus means taking on the often unpopular role of prophet for the sake of the kingdom; to be an authentic disciple of Jesus means welcoming and supporting other disciples who do the work of the Gospel. Like the prophets of old they must be prepared to suffer for speaking God's word. Jesus’ disciples were Christian "prophets" who spoke God's saving message. Whoever offered hospitality to these messengers of God received Jesus himself and God who sent him, and they would be rewarded for their kindness. Fr John Katamba

COTS, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization helping individuals experiencing homelessness in the Fox Cities. COTS provides transitional shelter
to individuals in Outagamie, Winnebago and Calumet counties. They treat all people with dignity and respect. Their goal is to end homelessness by enabling individuals to transition to self-sufficiency and stable, independent living. COTS provides a safe, affordable place to live, food, hygiene and household needs, and life skills training. They provide Positive Placement planning and ongoing case manage-ment to each resident in our program for up to two years. They also provide three years of Positive Placement (aftercare) Services following the resident’s successful transition to other safe and stable housing.
Monroe House, the old convent building on the Sacred Heart campus is a “next step” program for participants who have completed COTS basic program requirements, with continued barriers such as finding affordable marketplace housing.
Through the COTS partnership with Riverview Gardens® a non-profit organization in Appleton, with a mission to build dignity through job training and employment. To foster the dignity of hard work and allowing people to be part of their own solution. This project engages the entire community in addressing the root causes of unemployment, poverty and homelessness through hard work, creativity and human dig-nity. Sacred Heart Parish has been partnering with River-view for janitorial service and lawn care for several years. We currently have Jay working with us. We have helped several individuals hone their work skills, Noah, James, Ter-ry, Pete, Carl, Alex and Aaron to name a few. Cindy, Lee, Ted, and Ka have been great leaders in working with us. Sacred Heart parishioners have been welcoming and helpful to them as they work to help us and we help them.
Watch for more information soon for happenings at our Monroe House!
MISSION STATEMENT Sacred Heart Parish is a welcoming people,
