ARCHBISHOP FLYNN CATECHETICAL INSTITUTE Applications Available for Class Beginning September 2020

This fall, the Archbishop Flynn Catechetical Institute will offer the two-year Pillars Program in two different locations. Classes will be held at The Saint Paul Seminary on Monday evenings, and at the Church of St. Andrew in Elk River on Tuesday evenings. Module I will be live-streamed. Students can decide late August if they would like to take Module I in person or online. Taught by some of the best instructors in the Twin Cities, such as Bishop Andrew Cozzens, Jeff Cavins, Deacon Joe Michalak, Deacon Dan Gannon, Fr. John Klocke-man, Dr. Todd Flanders, Christina Smith, Liz Kelly, and more, the CI: Pillars Pro-gram follows the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and will make sense of all things Catholic, deepen your faith, and layout the roadmap to heaven. Applications are now being accepted through August 15, 2020, for the class beginning in September. For more information and an application, visit

semssp.org/ci or call 651-962-5072.

Chris Brezny, Parishioner and Graduate of the Class of St. Gianna Beretta Molla in 2016 writes:

“The Catechetical Institute brought about a real and radical transformation of both my knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. I recommend this course to anyone serious about learning more about their faith”.

Outdoor Adventures infused with Theology of the

Body insight

Into the Deep is a Catholic organization that offers “I.D. Retreats” in state and national parks for both adults and youth. Dive into the big questions of life through a combination of camping, hiking or canoeing, talks, daily Mass and space to pray! We are go-ing forward this summer and still have spots available; for full details and registration, go to idretreats.org/2020-retreats. The EARLYBIRD deadline for FALL retreats (Couples and Mom+Daughter) is JUNE 29.

“On our own, there’s little that we’re able to accomplish. It’s only with that kind of collaboration, involving the think-

ing and generosity of many folks that we’re able to put to-gether a successful plan. That is especially true in a crisis. ”

— Most Reverend Bernard A. Hebda

The Catholic Community Foundation established the Minnesota Catholic Relief Fund (MCRF) in April as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the urgent needs for support in our parishes, schools and communities. A portion of the MCRF has been designated to support individuals and families experiencing financial need as a result of this crisis. St. Odilia was invited to apply for a grant from this fund to specifically to provide direct assistance to families in need who may be either undocumented or otherwise under-served through other governmental or community programs. With our grant award of $10,000 and we were able to purchase additional gift cards for food as well as provide other monetary support to 22 families in need of direct emergency assistance. This grant, in addition to your gifts to the St. Odilia Charity Fund, allows us to continue to serve individuals and families in need at a time when the need is great, urgent and varied. In response to the recent turmoil and unrest in our community caused by the unjust death of George Floyd, the MCRF provides another opportunity to support our neighbors in need. Many people are experiencing displacement and distress, having lost their homes, businesses and sense of security. Grants will be made from the MCRF NEIGHBORS IN NEED fund to parishes and other nonprofit partners who are providing direct support to those in need as a result of this new crisis.

“The MCRF provides a beautiful opportunity for us all to be like the Good Samaritan, tending to our neighbors most in need.”

~ Most Reverend Bernard A. Hebda, Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the largest lay Catholic charitable organ-ization in the world. It’s Thrift Store in Minneapolis was damaged in the af-termath of the losses they incurred during the last few difficult weeks. They are asking for and need our help. As they rebuild, the community continues to have basic critical needs. Here is the list of “Personal Care Critical Items” which they are asking for:

Diapers • Baby Formula • Baby Powder • Body Wash • Cotton Swabs • Deodorant • Facial Cleanser • Facial Tissue • Feminine Hygiene Products • Hair

Care Products • Hand Soap • Laundry Detergent • Lip Balm • Lip Gloss • Lotion • Lotion and Moisturizers • Nail Files • Paper Towels

• Perfumes • Razors and Shaving Cream • Shampoo and Conditioner • Toilet Paper • Toothpaste and Toothbrushes • Wet Wipes

Donation bins have been relocated to the Courtyard. Please help fill our donation bins with the critically needed items above. Let’s assist our sisters

and brothers in need!

SERVICE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES! Along with all of your donations, we are asking the CONFIRMATION

STUDENTS to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store when they come to St. Odilia to celebrate their Sacrament of Confirmation

next month.

Food Shelves are open and in need! Collections for Ralph Reeder and Franciscan Brothers of Peace

Food Shelves We are continuing our collection of food to replenish both the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf and the Franciscan Brothers of Peace Food Shelf in St. Paul. The deliveries the past two weeks have been small (19 bags last week) compared to our pre-pandemic offerings. Let’s see if we can fill the truck this weekend with food for those in great need. I know we can do it! Please bring your food shelf donations to the bins in the Courtyard or the church. THANK YOU for all that you do for each other, for your families, for your community and for St. Odilia Church.

We will be asking our First Eucharist families to bring food for the Franciscan Brothers of Peace Food Shelf when they celebrate their

Sacrament of First Communion at St. Odilia next month.

¿Cuándo has mostrado una generosidad excesi-va a otro?

©LPi
