Service from the Heart

I was born on October 30, 1970 in Norfolk, Virginia, however, I have been raised in Laredo since 1972 and I consider Laredo my home. My parents are Melecio Landin (RIP) and Bertha Sanchez Landin. I have two sisters and one brother. My wife Gloria and I have four children (all adults) and four grandchildren.

The seed of my faith was planted in my heart when I was a young boy. My Mother was the driving force behind us in our family relationship with God.

We attended Mass every weekend. She made sure that we received our sacraments. My mother and father always encouraged us to pray and to strengthen and enjoy our relationship with our Lord.

My brother and I both began serving the Church right after we received our 1st Holy Communion here at St. Patrick Church. We both served as Altar Boys from 2nd grade to about 10th grade. During that time, I took a trip to the Seminary in Corpus Christi with my fellow Altar Servers. I felt a strong calling to the priesthood. Back then, we were part of the Diocese of Corpus Christi and there was no local vocations office that I was aware of. I got lost for several years after the 10th grade. The seed was planted but my development was stagnated.

I graduated from United high School in 1988. I continued my education. I have an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree. I also hold various professional certifications in management and public safety specialties.

I began my professional career on April 2, 1990 as a City of Laredo Fire Cadet. It was the beginning of a great career; serving people in need at their most vulnerable time in their lives. I served the great citizens of Laredo for over thirty years in the Laredo Fire Department. I made it up the ranks to the position of Fire Chief. I retired from the City of Laredo on May 15, 2020. I currently work for Judge Tano Tijerin at the Webb County office as the Emergency Management Coordinator.

I lived the ACTS retreat in June 2010. After my retreat, I started to attend Mass more regularly and prayer meetings with my new ACTS brothers. My prayer life grew tremendously. God brought me back to the church.

God waited for me patiently. My calling became stronger, I decided to follow that call and enter the Diaconate program. I can only praise and thank the Lord for being patient with me and blessing me with my ordination to the diaconate. My beautiful mother, beautiful wife, family and friends were by my side. I thank everyone for their support, thoughts and prayers throughout my spiritual journey.

As a new deacon, I want to tell all of you that I am here to serve. Please feel confident

to stop me, talk to me, call me, or reach out to me. I will do my best to reply to

messages and return calls. I am committed to trying my best in my new role. I am

always at your service.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

Servicio desde el corazón

Nací el 30 de octubre de 1970 en Norfolk, Virginia. Sin

embargo, crecí en Laredo desde 1972 y considero a Laredo

como mi hogar. Mis padres son Melecio Landin (RIP) y

Bertha Sanchez Landin. Tengo dos hermanas y un hermano.

Mi esposa Gloria y yo tenemos cuatro hijos (todos adultos) y

cuatro nietos.

La semilla de mi fe fue plantada en mi corazón cuando era

un niño. Mi madre fue la fuerza impulsora detrás de nosotros

en nuestra relación con Dios. Asistíamos a misa todos los

fines de semana. Ella se aseguró de que recibiéramos nuestros

sacramentos. Mi madre y mi padre siempre nos animaron a

orar y a fortalecer y disfrutar nuestra relación con nuestro

Señor.

Mi hermano y yo comenzamos a servir a la Iglesia justo

después de recibir nuestra Primera Comunión aquí en la Iglesia

de San Patricio. Ambos servimos como monaguillos desde el

segundo grado hasta aproximadamente el décimo grado.

Durante ese tiempo, hice un viaje al Seminario en Corpus

Christi con mis compañeros monaguillos. Sentí un fuerte

llamado al sacerdocio. En ese entonces, éramos parte de la

Diócesis de Corpus Christi y yo no conocía ninguna oficina local de vocaciones. Me perdí

durante varios años después del décimo grado. La semilla se plantó pero mi desarrollo se estancó.

Me gradué de United High School en 1988. Continué mi educación.

Tengo un título de asociado y una licenciatura. También poseo diversas

certificaciones profesionales en especialidades de administración y

seguridad pública.

Comencé mi carrera profesional el 2 de abril de 1990 como cadete de

bomberos de la ciudad de Laredo. Fue el comienzo de una gran

carrera; sirviendo a las personas necesitadas en el momento más

vulnerable de sus vidas. Serví a los estupendos ciudadanos de Laredo

durante más de treinta años en el Departamento de Bomberos de

Laredo. Subí de rango hasta el puesto de Jefe de Bomberos. Me jubilé de

la ciudad de Laredo el 15 de mayo de 2020. Actualmente trabajo para la

Oficina del juez del condado de Webb, Tano Tijerina, como Coordinador

de Manejo de Emergencias.

Viví el retiro de ACTS en junio de 2010. Después de mi

retiro, comencé a asistir a Misa con mas regularidad ya las

reuniones de oración con mis nuevos hermanos de ACTS.

Mi vida de oración creció enormemente. Dios me trajo de

regreso a la iglesia.

Dios me espero pacientemente. Mi llamado se hizo mas

fuerte, decidí seguir ese llamado e ingresar al programa de

Diaconado. Solo puedo alabar y agradecer al Señor por ser

paciente conmigo y bendecirme con mi ordenación al

diaconado. Mi Hermosa madre, Hermosa esposa, familiares

y amigos estaban a mi lado. Agradezco a todos por su apoyo,

pensamientos y oraciones a lo largo de mi viaje spiritual.

Como Nuevo diacono, quiero decirles a todos que estoy aquí para server. Siéntase seguro de

detenerme, hablar conmigo, llamarme o comunicarse conmigo. Hare todo lo posible para

responder a los mensajes y devolver las llamadas. Estoy comprometido a hacer mi mejor esfuerzo

en mi Nuevo rol. Estoy siempre a su servicio.

“Confía en el Señor con todo el corazón, y no te fíes de tu propia sabiduría. En cualquiera cosa que hagas, tenlo presente: el aplanara tus caminos”.
