The Artist Residency Program supports eight-week residencies for
Alaska artists at Lower 48 organizations and Outside artists at
Alaska organizations. The program launched in 2013.

Santa Fe Art Institute & IAIA, Santa Fe, NM | Alaska Native Arts Center - UAF

Goals of the Artist Residency Program:
Support the creative growth of Alaska’s artists and arts organizations
Expose Alaskans to new work and the creative processes of Lower 48 artists
Introduce Lower 48 communities to unique Alaska perspectives through extended
engagements with artists
What disciplines are eligible?
All visual artsLiterary arts Social practice Media artsCrafts, Folk, & Traditional Art
Artists who are eligible…• have been full time AK residents for last two years, and will be through the residency
• can be established or emerging artists, 18 years and older
• can demonstrate an active and sustained level of accomplishment, commitment, and excellence in their work
•have been formally recognized for their work sometime in the past five years.

The Center seeks an artist who is knowledgeable about current environmental issues affecting urban ecosystems who will work in advance with Center staff and community partners to identify an existing problem and path of inquiry that will be addressed during the two-month residency period.

The residency is designed for Alaska Native visual artists
who work in the areas of traditional crafts,
contemporary painting, photography, printmaking,
sculpture,or new media.
HistoryIn 2013, the Higher Learning Commission approves IAIA’s first Master’s in Fine Arts program in Creative Writing.

How does one apply?
1. Choose which residency program you’ll apply to – Djerassi, McColl, Santa Fe Art Institute, or Zygote?
2. The entire application is online. This system is distinct from the Individual Artist Award system, so you must start this one from scratch the first time you apply.
