JUNE 26 ISSUE · 2014 TERM 2 · WEEK 9 t t t ccas news letter The official newsletter of Central Coast Adventist School He Will Win Out Kiss ‘n’ Drop In this issue... ‘...where sin increased, God’s grace increased much more.’ Romans 5:20 GNT ‘Who made God then?’ ‘If God exists why is there so much suffering in the world?’ ‘Christians are mostly hypocrites.’ ‘Religion is outdated and causes wars.’ ‘Christianity is a crutch for weak people.’ ‘How can you know what’s really true?’ Have you ever had questions and statements like these flung at you, leaving you unsure how to respond? Maybe you’ve gotten discouraged and been tempted to stop sharing your faith. Maybe you’ve even given up praying because of it. It happens to lots of Christians at school and in the workplace, and it can be quite demoralising. In Galatians 1:13 NLT Paul writes; ‘I violently persecuted God’s church. I did my best to destroy it.’ Paul had no thoughts of becoming a Christian. His intent was to destabilise the Church, and he never dreamt that one day he’d switch sides. But when God has a plan, He will do whatever it takes to fulfil it. So when Paul held the coats of Stephen’s executioners, even then God was hatching a plan to make him one of the most remarkable Christians of all time. Just like Paul, He has plans for your friends with all their objections, tricky questions, or questionable lifestyle choices. Tougher nuts have been cracked! God’s grace will win out, so hold in there, and don’t lose hope! - word4u2day.com Parents and carers are reminded that the Kiss n’n Drop Zone out the front of the school is in operation right up until 9:15am each monring. Year 4 SustainabilityThis term Year Four have learnt about the Amazon rainforest and the crucial role the environment plays in our existence. In an effort to promote recycling , students were to design and create a useful product made entirely out of household waste items. All students did a fantastic job. Congratulations to Ebony Hocking (4I) and Chelsea Bryer (4P) for their brilliant designs.Ebony made a hanging bird feeder made from a collection of tin, wood and wire.Chelsea created a clever “Nic Nac Pack”. This was made from soft drink bottles and old zippers - great storage solution that can be used in the home, car or at school.

Athletics CarnivalWe will have all the details and house champions in the next newsletter. Students to compete at HRIS will be notified this week.

On Friday. 13 June our Year 12 Music students had the amazing opportunity to record some of their HSC musical ideas with a recording engineers and a producer. Students were able to record an ensemble and an individual piece. Students were extremely privileged to be able to work with one of Australia’s upcoming producers Andy Mak. Andy Mak is an Australian producer/engineer/songwriter/musician. Andy has produced and written with some of the country’s most established artists and also helped forge the sounds of some of Australia’s freshest new talent. During a career spanning 11 years Andy has worked with Phebe Starr, Stan Walker, Tina Arena, Boy

and Bear, Winterborne, Silverchair, New Empire, Darlene Zschech, Lucy Mason, to name a few. Andy has a Bachelors degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is signed to Native Tongue Music Publishing.

HRIS Basketball GalaCongratulations to all involved in our magnificent basketball performances last Friday at the HRIS Gala. All four of our teams won their division and for the second year in a row, CCAS has been named the Champions. The Junior Boys, Senior Boys & Senior Girls were all very dominant, with none of their games being particularly close score lines. The Junior Girls though had quite a battle in their game against Macquarie College with the game being decided by free throws by each team in the final 20 secs! Well done to Brianna Wooller who held her nerve to make both her free throws, while the MC student missed one to ensure CCAS girls won the game by 1 point – a real nail-biter!! Even more exciting was the fact that our ex-student Paige Melville made the presentations at conclusion of the competition. Paige is currently back home on spring break from Cal State Uni in America, where she is studying on a basketball scholarship.

HRIS Junior Boys Soccer GalaSelection of this team were finalised on Wednesday this week and the permission email will be sent home to

parents. Please check your inbox for that email. The Gala is on Tuesday 29th July in Newcastle.

HRIS Athletics ChampionshipsOn 22nd July (second day of Term 3) we will be taking a team of 101 athletes to Newcastle to compete against the other Division One HRIS Schools. The permission email with all the details of the day and which events each student has qualified for has already been emailed home, so I urge parents to please check their inbox to complete that on-line form. Any questions, please contact the Sports Office.

World ChampionshipsWOW! CCAS is incredibly proud to inform the school community that our own Jayden Hodgson (Yr 11) has been named in the 12-man Australian Basketball team who will travel to Dubai for the World Championships in August. Jayden attended the final camp at the AIS in Canberra over the weekend where he has obviously impressed the selectors. Congratulations Jayden – all that hard work, early mornings, travelling and fatigue have paid off. It’s so exciting to witness young people achieving their goals and aspirations. CCAS is on the ride with you and we pray for an incredible, safe experience.
