This is a reminder from the workers at the Gardiner- Park County Water & Sewer District. We would remind Gardiner residents that easements are a benefit for both the District and the community. Easements are necessary for underground utilities and are legal documents. Easements allow the District to perform required maintenance and repairs to water and sewer lines with minimal intrusion on the property and at minimal cost. If a property owner does not abide by the easement and builds structures within the easement without the Districts’ permission, this impacts the community as the District must spend extra time and money in order to perform maintenance and repairs to the water and sewer lines. We all want to keep costs down. So please, if you have an easement on your property be mindful of where you build so you do not interfere with the easement.

Going-to-the-Sun Road is open!

West Glacier, MT – The Going-to-the-Sun Road will be open on Sunday morning, June 23, in its entirety to motorized vehicle travel, pending any last minute changes due to weather. Visitors will be able to drive the entire 50-mile length of the road, and access Logan Pass. Park work crews have finished snow removal, assessed current snow conditions, removed rocks and other road debris, installed guard rails, and prepared Logan Pass facilities for visitor use. This year, pavement preservation crews also worked in the alpine section of the road prior to road opening. They will continue to work throughout the park this summer. Services at Logan Pass include restroom facilities and potable water. The Logan Pass Visitor Center is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm through September 2, and with reduced hours until October 1. The visitor center offers information about the park, ranger-led programs, and a Glacier National Park Conservancy bookstore. Interpretive bus tours on the Going-to-the-Sun Road and in other areas of the park are available through Sun Tours and Glacier National Park Lodges. More information on these services can be found on the park’s website. Vehicles and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet, and wider than 9 feet, are prohibited on the Going-to-the-Sun Road between Avalanche Campground and Rising Sun. Vehicles over 10 feet in height may have difficulty driving west from Logan Pass due to rock overhangs. The spring hiker-biker shuttle service has ended operations for the season. Bicyclists are reminded that bicycle safety restrictions on the Going-to-the-Sun-Road are in effect, and remain in effect through Labor Day, September 2. Bicycles are prohibited between the Apgar turnoff near the Apgar Picnic Area and Sprague Creek Campground from 11 am to 4 pm. Bicycles are prohibited eastbound (uphill) between Logan Creek and Logan Pass from 11 am to 4 pm. Information on bicycle restrictions and average bicycle times may be found in the park newspaper available at park entrance stations, or online on the park’s bicycle information webpage. The park’s fare-free summer shuttle system will begin operating on July 1, and will run from approximately 7 am – 7 pm, seven days a week. While driving along the road, particularly through the Rim Rock area (approximately one mile west of Logan Pass), visitors should be aware of possible rockfall. Rocks and other debris continue to fall throughout the summer, requiring daily clean up along the road. The Highline Trail from Logan Pass is still closed due to hazardous snow conditions. For up-to-date information on trail conditions and clearing activities, visit the park’s trail status webpage. The park continues to anticipate a closure from September 16-30 on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road from Avalanche to Logan Pass due to the pavement preservation project underway this year. Logan Pass will remain accessible during this period of time from the St. Mary entrance.

7 Things to Do in Montana This Summerwww.iexplore.comNicknamed "Big Sky Country" and "The Treasure State," when you think of Montana, outdoor recreation comes to mind. Whether you’re at wildlife rich Yellowstone or admiring the beauty of Glacier National Park, active pursuits can be found around every bend.

River Rafting - Boasting some of the best whitewater rapids in the nation, take a pristine ride through the snowy peaks, plateaus, canyons, and valleys. Whether you want a guided raft trip or to rent a kayak and canoe and go at it on your own, there’s a boat and waterway calling your name in Southwest Montana, Yellowstone Country, Central Montana, and Glacier Country.

Biking - Whether its road biking or mountain biking you’re interested in, Montana has cycling routes all over the state. Rated by length and difficulty, there are hilly vistas throughout Glacier National Park, Glacier County and Yellowstone County suited for advanced riders or families looking for a relaxing afternoon activity.

Fishing - Trout paradise, the Blackfoot, Yellowstone, Missouri and Smith Rivers are prime for getting a fresh catch. Whether you’re in Glacier Country, Central Montana or Southwest Montana, it’s easy to find a boat, some gear and a good time. In the spring, your best bet is the tail waters, creeks and smaller streams as the bigger waterways have high currents and are muddy during run-off season.

Bird Watching - If you’re an avid birder, some of Montana’s accolades in regards to their featured friends include the largest population of Trumpeter Swans in the lower 48 states, up to 175 bald eagle sightings per day at Kootenai River (in the fall) and the most Golden Eagles spotted in the country a single day on the Rocky Mountain Front.

Hot Springs - Montana has more than a dozen natural hot springs and over two dozen resorts based around their geothermal properties. If you’re in need of a spa day, head to Bozeman, Helena or Butte where the highest concentration of pools lie.

Hiking - Camping under the clear night sky is one of Montana’s biggest draws. With its name derived from the Latin word for “mountainous,” there are 77 different ranges for backpackers and hikers to traverse in Glacier Park and Big Sky.

Horseback Riding - If you’re in search of a true Western adventure, you’re in luck. Montana’s horseback riding trips, rodeos and ranch vacations are the true essence of the old frontier. Starting a campfire, going on a pack trip and riding a covered wagon are all memorable experiences that will take you back to a simpler time.

Rafting the town stretch of the Yellowstone River through Gardiner, Montana is not to be missed! Daily trips offered by Montana Whitewater, Yellowstone Raft Company, Wild West Rafting, Paradise Adventure Company & The Flying Pig Adventure Company.
