Welcome!Welcome to Saratoga Springs and the

2015 American Planning Association’s

Northeast Planning Conference. This is an

exciting time for the eight APA Chapters

of the Northeast Region as we gather to

celebrate the coordinated efforts of all the

Chapters and National APA to pull this

impressive event together. On behalf of

the New York Upstate Chapter, we are

honored to host this premier event in historic,

charming, and vibrant Saratoga Springs.

As a 2012 recipient of APA’s Great Places in America: Streets, we

hope you explore Broadway with its historic architectural facades,

well-utilized public spaces, and quaint community character. With

more than 50,000 flowers planted annually and complete streets

initiatives, Saratoga Springs is a city known for its careful compliments

and restoration to a multitude of National Historic Landmarks. Saratoga

Springs serves as an ideal location to refresh your passion for planning!

‘Getting Ahead of the Future’ is intended to provide you with practical

knowledge to better serve our communities. As a profession accustomed

to overcoming barriers, I challenge you all to make this experience

count. While you are here push your personal boundaries. Introduce

yourself to the person next to you. Engage with your peers and

expand your horizons. Take this opportunity to expose yourself to

new ways of thinking, network amongst peers across the region, and

build relationships you can draw upon when you find yourself facing

those barriers back in the office. Your attendance alone is a testament

to your commitment to improved planning for the future but making

this experience count is what will empower you to make the world a

better place.

With warm regards,
