Years ago, this solemnity was called by its Latin name Corpus Christi “Body of Christ.” The new- er name for this celebration is the Body and Blood of Christ. Pope Francis stated, “Today’s Solemnity re- minds us that in our frag- mented lives, the Lord comes to meet us with a loving ‘fragility,’ which is the Eucharist. In the Bread of Life, the Lord comes to us, making himself a hum- ble meal that lovingly heals our memory, wounded by life’s frantic pace. The Eucharist is the memorial of God’s love.” The images of sacrifice that are included in the Readings for this feast help us understand how significant the offering and sharing of Jesus’ Body and Blood really is. The Eucha- rist, also teaches us the importance of community. Solemnity Of The Most Holy Body And Blood Of Christ

Dear Queen of Apostles Family, After five years of wonderful, fruitful, spirit-filled stay in Queen of Apostles, the

time has come for me to move on. But, I am not saying goodbye, but saying ‘til we

meet again. I am saying this because I know we will bump into each other some-

day, somewhere. For now, I am saying goodbye and thank you. No amount of

words can describe how grateful I am to all of you – parish & school staff, and pa-

rishioners for helping me become a better priest than who I was before when I first

got here, and since my ordination as a priest. Queens is my first parish assignment

after ordination, and I am happy and grateful to have been assigned here by our

Bishop Emeritus, Patrick McGrath in 2014. I will bring with me all good memo-

ries, the wonderful, happy, sad experiences, including the challenges, and stresses

that served as learning experiences. You have shaped me and formed me to who I

am now. As you welcome your two new priests, Fr. Jeff and Fr. Athanasius, may

you extend them the same (or more) love, and support you have given me and Fr.

Thuc. Be assured that you are in my daily prayers. Through the intercession of

Mary, Queen of Apostles, may God bless you and your family always.

Annual Native American Fundraising Drive

Our parishioners have been so generous in supporting the Native Americans in Shiprock, New Mexico and in Pine Ridge, South Dako-ta. We thank you so much. Recently we have found that other parishes in the area are also helping the Shiprock parishioners. However Sa-cred Heart parish in South Dakota is in need.

Pine Ridge Reservation of the Lakota/Sioux in South Dakota is the poorest reservation in the country. Sacred Heart Catholic Church serves the Pine Ridge Reservation in a number of ways. People come by every day for food and money to help with rent or electricity, especially in winter. We will be accepting donations through the month of June. Thank you for all your support. Please come and join our community of Queen of Apos-tles on June 30, with coffee and donuts in saying farewell to Fr. Reynaldo Sarmiento. Congratu-lation, to Fr. Athanasius Kikoba on his ordination anniversary of 15 years .

Prophets and Peacemakers

In one of the readings this past week, Jesus asks us to be prophets. That may seem like He is asking a lot. But Wisdom literature call us as well to be prophets. (Wis 7:24) Through the working of the Holy Spirit who makes them “friends of God and prophets.” And we can most easily recognize these friends and prophets by the fruits of the Holy Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Gal 5:22-23) The Holy Spirit give us what we need to be prophets.

So, what is a prophet and how can we be prophets? A prophet is one who is an “inspired proclaimer of the will God.” (Webster’s) Does that seem plausible to us? Can we be a prophet? Joan Chittister says there is a prophet in YOU. In this world that has gone badly askew, we await for spiritual people everywhere to refuse to be pawns in the world going astray. Will we take up our moral responsibility to make the world a better place?

That is where the prophet comes in. “The prophet is the person who says no to everything that is not God.” (Sr. Joan) “The prophet is one who speaks the truth to the lie.” (Daniel Berrigan) All of these things are possible. “The call is for a clear and common voice to challenge oppression and discrimination of any kind.” (Sr. Joan) We can all call out in our own way for justice and peace. “Be not a whisper that is lost in the wind, be a voice that is heard above the storms of life.” (Maimonides)

Thank you for your feedback on this column. We have now changed the title to Prophets and Peacemakers so as not to miss some very important examples of both.
