Father’s Day is a time for sons anddaughters to recognize the men in their lives. Those who run alongside bicycles while theirchildren are learning to ride, who rescue kidsfrom Mom-imposed grounding, and who feeltrips to the ice cream shop should be aweekly ritual. When it comes to offering Dad gifts inhonor of his special day, younger childrenwill likely find that handmade gifts from theheart are ones Dad cherishes the most. Hereare a number of heartfelt, crafty ideas thatchildren can put together for Father’s Day.1. Brimming basket: Fill a basket full ofDad’s favorite foods or items related to hispastimes. Place a hand-crafted card insideand wrap with colored cellophane.2. Scrapbook: Children can gather theirfavorite photos of moments they’ve sharedwith Dad and put together a small scrapbookwith artwork or cutouts from magazines.Craft stores now devote entire aisles to scrapbooking supplies.3. Personalized baseball cap: Use fabricpaint or fabric markers to draw designs ormessages on a light-colored baseball hat.4. Coupon book: Put together a book ofcoupons that treat Dad to special things, suchas a homemade breakfast, a day off of any

Ste. Anne was the first parish established in the area, dating back to 1856, and is therefore older than Canada. The early settlers arrived looking for farmland. The first198 families in the community busied themselves with theirfirst major industry, supplying lumber for the constructionof the St. Boniface Cathedral. The Hudson’s Bay Companyalso had a strong presence in the community in the 1800s.Ste. Anne served as a stopover for weary travelers on theirjourney to Winnipeg, along the famed Dawson Trail. Itsfull name is Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes. It is known for beinglocated on the Seine River and at the heart of the DawsonTrail. In June 1959, Ste. Anne experienced the worst flood inits history. Water rose at a rate visible by eye, and the Ste.Anne Hospital was evacuated. In 1960, the Seine Riverdiversion project was completed to prevent future floods.

Father’s Day Gifts... Kids’ Stylechores, or anything you can think of. Sign allthe coupons and make a personalized cover.Staple everything together, and then give toDad.5. Footprint craft and poem: Children caneither trace their footprints onto a piece ofposter board or make a ceramic print (likethose hand prints often done in school). Craftstores sell plaster kits that harden in mereminutes after an impression has been madeinto the mixture. Accompany the footprintmasterpiece with the following poem:

“Walk a little slower, Daddy,” said achild so small, I’m following in yourfootsteps and I don’t want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,Sometimes they’re hard to see;So walk a little slower, Daddy,

For you are leading me.Someday when I’m all grown up,

You’re what I want to be;Then I will have a little childWho’ll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,And know that I was true,

So walk a little slower, Daddy,For I must follow you.”
