  • Rachel Dolezal, the white woman pretending to be African American, has resigned from her position in the NAACP. She was last spotted walking out of the NAACP offices with a box full of her Coldplay CDs. ~ Conan OBrien

How about this woman Rachel Dolezal? She was president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP but was exposed as a white woman who was pretending to be black. A lot of people are upset, especially her white friends who thought they had at least one black friend.. ~ Jimmy FallonIt was a beautiful weekend in New York. Its that time of the year again and we have all been waiting patiently for summer weather. We arent the only ones Unfortunately the mosquitoes love our warm weather just as much as we do. Mosquitoes are without a doubt the most iconic summertime pest. This year we wanted to get the public involved in the elimination process. You all can play a big part in making this a great and COMFORTABLE summer! The most efficient way to control mosquitoes is to find and eliminate their larval habitat. Water is the biggest necessity for mosquito breeding. No water, no eggs, no mosquitoes. The biggest question about insecticides used to treat mosquitoes is IS IT SAFE? The publics safety is our top priority. The pesticides are designed

to be toxicto the bugs. Your risk is very low and extra steps can be taken to make that risk even lowerdont drink the pesticide, dont spray mosquito spray in your mouth, dont run behind the mosquito truck, and dont eat the tablets used to treat water The mosquitoes can, as we all have been educated on, carry disease. The risk of the being around and spreading these diseases is far greater than the risk of exposure by local pesticide application. We are currently mapping out areas looking for swamps, sluggishly moving streams, ditches holding water, ponds/reservoirs, etc., to get a jump on the mosquito fight by treating the water first, then we will fog to eliminate the adults/stragglers. We are only permitted to fog if the wind speed is 10 mph or lower, and the sun is below the horizon. We like to start treating for mosquitoes during their peck hours which is usually just before sun down until midnight. We

start later to allow the public to enjoy their time outside before sundown. If you have any of these on your land within close proximity of the town limits please let us know and we would be happy to discuss treatment options and/or come out and treat it ourselves within city limits. YOU can reduce the mosquito habits by doing your part in maintaining the standing around your home. For example, draining anything that holds water such as tires, trash cans without lids, small containers, and empty bottlesanything that can hold water can be a potential breeding ground. You dont have to destroy your childrens swimming pools or remove your birdbaths, just maintain and clean them a couple times a week. A mosquito egg usually will hatch within 48 hours. Drill holes in trash cans to drain water, dispose of the old tires and containers. DO NOT let water accumulate in flowerpots, cemetery urns, pets dishes, birdbaths for longer than 3 days. Check plastic and canvas tarps that cover boats and pools; arrange the tarp so any water will drain off. Fill drain puddles, ditches, swampy areas, and low spots in yard with sand to prevent breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Mosquitos love to rest in tall grass, so keeping your grass/lawn short is a very good way to control the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes thrive in standing/stagnant water that has vegetation. Water ponds that have minnows in them will help reduce the mosquito population because the fish eat the larva. This may sound like a lot of work that can be brushed to the side, but these extra precautions will be worth it when you are sitting outside, enjoying some beautiful summer weather with your favorite activity this summer season. • Anyone on Medicare is aware that the Medicare number printed on every card is someones Social Security number. This may have been a good idea when Medicare was created in 1965; however it is long overdue for a change. This has been agreed upon for over a decade now, between the increase in technology use and the ease at which identities can be stolen. That day has arrived. President Obama has signed a bill just last month that includes the provision to omit the Social Security number from the Medicare card. This will not happen overnight however. It is important to be aware that now that this is going forward, criminals are going to take advantage of it. There will probably be scams

starting almost immediately whereby people will call to tell you they are helping with the change. They will most likely ask for your current Medicare number, among other identifiable pieces of information, and they will sound very authoritative. Here is what you need to know right now:1. Medicare and Social Security

will never call you.2. Medicare officials have up to

four years to start issuing cards with new identifiers.

    3. They have four more years to reissue cards held by current beneficiaries.

This means nothing will happen right now. If someone calls to tell you theyre reprocessing cards, issuing new cards, assigning new

numbers or anything similar, be on guard. As usual, the normal warnings remain. Never give your personal information out over the phone. The phone is no longer the helpful device it used to be, but rather a tool con criminals use against us. If you dont know who is calling by looking at caller ID, let your voicemail pick up the phone. If it is important they will leave a message.

Its official: Social Security Numbers to be stripped from your Medicare Cards
