ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

MECHANICS:

A. EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH

• The topic shall be given on the spot by the judges.• The contestants shall be given 1 minute to prepare and 3 minutes to deliver.• Speeches should be delivered in English• The style of the delivery shall be conversational, oratorical or a combination of both.• Use of sound effects, microphones and props is strictly prohibited.• Only first 10 contestants, on a first-come, first - served basis, will be eligible to join the contest.

B. SCI FACE PAINTING

• The face paint must be based on the theme.• Only ONE entry per school is allowed in this competition. Each entry must be composed of two (2), One

will serve as the model and others will be the one to design• All other materials must be brought by the individual contestant• All face paint must be done only on the spot, and must be completed within the allotted time of three (3)

hours.• Judges' Decision is final and irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:Relevance to the theme: 40%Artistry: 30%Originality: 20%Presentation 10%

C. SCI-YAW

• The contest is open to all registered first 10 groups.• Each group must consist of minimum 5 and maximum of 10 members from the same school only.• Each group shall choose their own dance piece. The dance routine must be 3-5 minutes.• Judges decision is final and irrevocable

D. SCI - QUIZBEE

Topics: Climate Change, National and International Environmental issues,

• Each school is entitled to have 3 contestants to compose a team who are bonafide students of theschool. (Note: ONLY ONE ENTRY PER SCHOOL)

• Each team will be provided with an illustration board to write their answers on together with a chalkand an eraser. They must raise their answers when the Quiz master tells that time is up. Lateanswers will not be accepted.

• Questions shall prepared solely by the SMARTER Board Members.• The questions will be read twice by the Quiz master. After the second reading, the Quiz master will

say "GO"- only then will the team be allowed to write the answer.• The contest has three (3) rounds. Level 1-3 questions for EASY ROUND -1 point, Level 2 - 3

questions for AVERAGE ROUND - 2 points and Level 3 - 3 questions for DIFFICULT ROUND -3 points.

• After the 9 questions, 3 teams getting the highest score will be declared 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd

Place. The duly registered teacher - coach of the team is the only person authon'zed to make aprotest. All protest should be referred to the Board of Judges immediately before the Quiz master.

E. PHOTO SCI-GRAPHY• The Photography competition is based on theme• Photo must be taken during the competition period, and should not have won nor have been

published in any book or magazine.• Participants may use any digital or film-based camera. Entries must be printed in full color on any

brand of photo paper in 8R size.• Creative effects done within the camera at the time of exposure are allowed.• Digital retouching on density, contrast adjustments, minor cropping, burning, and dodging may be

tolerated, although major manipulation of main images through adding or subtracting are notallowed.

• The name of the contestant must not appear in the entry.Criteria for Judging

Relevance to the Theme. 45%Composition and Creativity 30%Clarity and Technical Quality 25%

F. CARTOONING

• Only pencils provided by the organizers shall be used• The cartoon must reflect the elements of editorial cartooning which includes: Clarity of the

message, purpose of the editorial, logical choice of symbols, creativity and style, originality.• The cartoon should be at all times, compliant ob the professional and ethical standards of media.
