Saying Farewell to the Class of 2017

On June 2nd, Holy Family School said farewell to the Class of 2017. As the 51 students embark on a new journey, we are confident that our work here is complete. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Our 18-foot, 400 pound aluminum cross is being mounted above the vestibule; it should be done by mid June.

Time flies! I am about to begin my 3rd year at Holy Family. One of the first things that I noticed during my first couple of weeks was that our community is big and active compared to many other parishes in our diocese. We have generous parishioners and we are a very faith-filled community. Along with those noticeable characteristics of our community, I also noticed immediately that more than 90% of our parishioners are using side doors to enter and exit our Church. This imposes many difficulties to our community in terms of building community and fellowship. Perhaps one of the reasons that so many of our parishioners are using side doors is due to the blockage of our wooden ramp. While the wooden ramp served its purpose, nevertheless, it blocked half of our stairs and walkway. Another reason might be that the side doors are more convenient. Thanks be to God and to many of you who supported our 5-projects, our new walkway is done along with our speed humps and electronic sign.

Given that our walkway is now finished, it is time for us to utilize our new beautiful space. Having most or all parishioners use the main entrance was one of my goals since I celebrated my first Mass at Holy Family. Of course, there are always a few exceptional cases. However, most of us would enter the main door when we visit any home. By doing so, we respect the homeowner by informing them of our arrival and would allow the host to greet us properly. In the spirit of making our community all the more vibrant and building our fellowship, I earnestly invite all who are "ABLE" to walk through the main entrance. Please use it for coming in and going out of the church. This small gesture may seem insignificant, but the impact of using the main entrance is enormous in building our community. Just imagine! All the faithful can be greeted by the presider and the members of our hospitality team as they enter and exit the Church. Jesus our host loves to greet each and everyone through His ministers.

I know that many of us have been using the side doors for years and that it might create a bit of uneasiness or inconvenience by using the main entrance. If so, please offer that as a sacrifice in helping to make our community to be more lively and fruitful. I understand that some parishioners are elderly thus every step you walk is difficult; if so, please continue to use whichever door that is best for you.

It is evident that since Fr. Edsil and I invited everyone to use the Church’s main entrance, many have responded graciously with enthusiasm and the fruit of that is already being seen. I am deeply grateful to all who are heeding our invitation as well as to those who are willing, but due to your physical pain may not use the main entrance as you wish, yet remain using whichever door that is most convenient.

Together with the spirit of serving our Lord and building our community of faith, we will be much stronger, vibrant and welcoming.

May our loving God continue to bless and grant what is best for each of us. God bless,

Fr. Andrew Vu Nguyen

Fr. Edsil’s Farewell Celebration

Our Fr. Edsil is being transferred to Hospital Ministry in Santa Clara. His last Mass here will be this Sunday, June 11 at 11:15am. We are hosting a reception in the Community Center after the 11:15am Mass. We invite parishioners to bring appetizers or desserts for the reception (drop it off in the Community Center before Mass) and join in this loving send-off.

Thanks from the Knights!

The Knight’s of St. Ignatius of Loyo-la Council extend our deep thanks to Holy Family's Pastor, Staff and espe-cially the parishioners for your sup-port of our “Honor Our Vets BBQ” this year. Those attending know they served the larger community and vet-erans in particular. Charity takes many forms and healing the hearts of the weary is one of the best for our own hearts. Know that you have helped to make the lives of these injured and recovering veterans bet-ter by your acts of kindness and by your donations.

A very special thank you to the many parishioners who donated their time, talents and treasure to help make this a memorable day and an experience of grace for all of our Vets, Many of these veterans expressed their thanks to Holy Family as we served them. It is really their thanks that we pass along to each of you.

Next Week’s 2nd Collection: Catholic Communication

Campaign

Through Internet, social networks, tele-vision, radio, and print, the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) helps the Church spread the Gospel message through the media locally and nationally. Half of all donations to the CCC collect-ed in your diocese stay in your diocese to support your local communications needs, such as radio and television pro-gramming and diocesan publications. Please be generous.

The Mass

Our Offering

As we transition from the Liturgy of the Word to the Liturgy of the Eucharist we begin the offertory Chant (or song)

It’s not only the physical offerings we bring to the Mass that Father is preparing to receive. He is receiving our participation in the form of gifts, the wine, the bread and perhaps other gifts to relieve the needs of the Church and of the poor. We also give our prayers, our spiritual offerings and our physical presence. When the altar has been set and Father proceeds to the steps to receive the offerings, representatives of our community bring forth the physical offerings he will offer on behalf of the entire community.

Our participation is verbal, physical and spiritual. Each of us is called to active participation in the Mass. That does not mean we must be loud with needless moving or activities. It does mean that we come prepared to be a participant in each part of the Mass. During the offertory we sing, we pray as a community that we are pleasing to God, and we join together to present our gifts to the Lord.

Come, let us Worship together!

June 21 – “The Wounded Healer” by Rilene Simpson (Rescheduled from June 7)

Village House is an interfaith shelter of hope St. Julie’s is the current host of this women’s shelter and this is an op-portunity to live your faith, through corporal acts of mercy, to be Christ’s heart, hands, and voice of love. Consider volun-teering by signing up online at the Village House website: www.villagehousesccca.com..

Holy Family will operate the shelter during November until December 6th. Helping a shift or more at one of the other churches is an opportunity to get to know the women and learn how things work before the shelter moves here.

Faith communities hosting individuals at night and looking for support help include: St. Julie, Cathedral of Faith, St. Timothy Lutheran, Holy Family, and Temple Emanu-El,. Many volunteer opportunities are available for individuals or groups such as laundry, meals, intake and overnight, driving, and medical. St. Julie’s is the present host. You can see where they need help and sign-up on the Village House. Sign-ups for these sites are opened each month.

This would be good experience for us as Holy Family will be hosting the shelter in November.
