From the Pastor’s Desk…
"Steady as she goes, Captain!"
Would that describe the course of our Faith life? As
always we look to Jesus. Jesus was focused on his mission.
He worked hard to communicate his message of salva!on,
to train his apostles, to heal the sick and comfort the
troubled. In fact, he worked so hard to fulfill his mission that
it was “impossible for [him and his disciples] even to eat.”
But not everyone appreciated Jesus and his
dedica!on to his mission. Even members of his own
extended family, St. Mark's Gospel tells us, thought he was
crazy. The more popular and respected religious and
cultural leaders of the !me rejected him. They actually
accused him, as today's Gospel passage makes clear, of
being an instrument of the devil. It must have been hard for
our Lord, to stay focused on his mission, to be faithful to
what his Father had sent him to do, when he ran into so
much opposi!on, mockery, and misunderstanding.
Yet, he persevered. St. Paul reminds us "Therefore,
we are not discouraged; rather, although our outer self is
was!ng away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
For this momentary light afflic!on is producing for us an
eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look
not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is
transitory, but what is unseen is eternal."
Are you and I staying the course as Jesus did? Are
you and I keeping our eyes on the ul!mate goal that we are
told is beyond comparison? Can we put up with and get
through the momentary afflic!ons of this life? Yes, with the
Help of our God! "Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
LORD, hear my voice! I trust in the LORD; my soul trusts in
his word. For with the LORD is kindness and with him is
plenteous redemp#on."
Congratula!ons and blessing to all of our Students who will
begin their summer breaks and move on to the next level in
their educa!on journey. Congrats to all of those students
who have graduated from College and are beginning their
careers. May God keep all of our children safe this summer
and give opportuni!es to all of our graduates.
God Bless,

A PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Gracious and loving God,
Help the men and women of our parish to
hear the call to serve your Church. Our
needs are great and our people thirst for
your presence. Open the hearts of many,
raise up faithful servants of the Gospel, dedicated holy
priests, sisters, brothers, and deacons, who will spend
themselves for your people and their needs. Bless those
who are serving now with courage and perseverance.
Grant that many will be inspired by their example and
faith, we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Par!cipate in Catholic Chari!es semi-annual “Stock the
Pantry” project throughout the month of June! Hunger
doesn’t take a summer vaca!on! In a single month,
Catholic Chari!es distributes approximately 10,000
pounds of food.
You can support our most vulnerable neighbors by
making a dona#on of non-perishable food items. Drop
off canned meats, soups, fruits, and vegetables; boxes of
pasta, cereal, baking mixes; jars of peanut bu%er and
jelly; coffee, tea, powdered milk to baskets at the
entrances of church.
These dona!ons will be sent directly to Casa San Francisco
in Milton. Take A Student Home to Dinner: Would you like the
opportunity to enhance the cultural experience of our
summer foreign student workers? If so, please consider
invi!ng a student (perhaps with a friend or two) to dinner
at your home. It doesn't have to be extravagant, just a
meal with a student far from home. Please go to the

sign up as a resident under the
"Take a Student Home to
Dinner" tab. We will match you
with a student and send you
both an email so you can make arrangements that are

Behind our parish office, there is a small parking lot, with just
NINE parking spaces. This parking lot is for the exclusive use of
parish staff weekdays (Monday through Friday). On the
weekend, this parking lot is reserved for the exclusive use of
those who are serving at Mass (deacons, Eucharis!c ministers,
lectors, altar servers, ushers, musicians, etc.). It is important to
keep these spaces free for those who are in liturgical ministry so
that they may find a convenient place to park as they arrive to
prepare for their vital ministry at each Mass. While finding a
parking spot on the street is o#en daun!ng, you will find that, if
you !me your arrival for when the previous Mass is le@ng out,
there are usually many nearby spots on King Charles Avenue,
Hickman Street, or Laurel Street.
