GREENS REPORT

The 8th hole has been reopened

for play, and the par 3 finishing hole has been closed.

This has enabled us to open the old 18

th hole for practice bunker

play and short chipping.

The area is not large and it is necessary for us to apply some rules to ensure the safety of all members and visitors. These rules are available on all notice

boards and the Pro-shop.

It is also necessary for all members to report to the Pro-shop before going to use this facility.

If persons do not abide by these rules they may be banned from using this facility.

We have 2 bench seats ready to be installed around the golf course and are seeking ideas as to where the most suitable places would be to place them.

If you have any ideas, please forward them to the attention of the Chairman of the Green’s Committee and leave them at the back office in the Clubhouse.

JOKE OF THE MONTH

John and Bob were two of the bitterest rivals at the club.

Neither man trusted the other's arithmetic.

One day they were playing a heated match and watching

each other like hawks.

After holing out on the fourth green and marking his six on the scorecard, John asked Bob, “What’d you have?

Bob went through the motions of mentally counting up. "Six!"

he said and then hastily corrected himself,.

" No, no....a five."

Calmly John marked the scorecard, saying out loud

"Eight!" "Eight?" Bob said, "I couldn't have had eight." John

said,

"Nope, you claimed six, then changed it to five, but actually

you had seven."

"Then why did you mark down eight?" asked Bob. John told him, "One stroke penalty, for

improving your lie."

FROM THE PROSHOP Well members let's hope the cold weather is now behind us.... Over the last month we have had wind, rain and frost yet I have been amazed with the size of the fields in both men's and ladies competitions. I must say some days when players with umbrellas beanies and jackets are teeing off I think you are mad!!!! But this just confirms why golf is such a great game and I love the passion you all have for it... With such strong fields now, I'm am confident this summer will be the one that opens up the flood gates and numbers around this facility began to boom... Visitors to the club have been steady and many have been staying on course. Some have played the course before, and others are first time visitors.

The one thing they have in common is the feedback they leave. I often hear

“this golf course and development is going to be something special once completed" .

" the course has improved and gone to the next level since I played here last” .

“the new holes which have just opened are great addition to the course”.

Many of these visitors come from some of the best clubs around the country, to have feedback given from them like this gives me confidence and should be a message members consider when rating our course.

Now more than ever is the time to get your friends, family or work colleagues down for a game of golf.

If you have a beginner in mind that may need some assistance I am offering 2 for 1 lesson currently and all new full members receive a complementary lesson upon joining. If you are considering lessons yourself you could even look at the option of joining a friend in a joint lesson which can often be a effective but fun way to learn.

TIP OF THE MONTH

There are a lot of things the pros do that you simply cannot copy. Phil Mickelson’s short game? You’re not going to look like that around the greens next time you play. How far Dustin Johnson rips the ball? You’re probably not going to pull that off, either.’ But don’t be discouraged.

There’s a big thing the pros do that you can perfectly copy and it’ll help your game. No matter what your handicap is, your setup can look like a tour player’s. I believe there is a lot to be gained by putting yourself in a good, stable address position.

The setup or address position is the most important part of the golf swing I believe its so simple but very rarely consider by golfers as important.

How you set up will always effect how you swing the club and this will then lead to how your shot turns out.

Using a 7 iron, set your stance so that the outside of your heels are shoulder-width apart (1), with each foot turned out slightly.

“Stand up straight, arms out, and look down at your shoes, then flex your knees until you lose sight of your shoelaces,” he says.

"Keep your back straight, and let your arms fall until they rest against your sides.

Now bend forward and sole the club (2). Centre your weight in the arches of your feet, and you're in a balanced, ready position.

"Practice in the mirror to make sure you have it down, and then take it out to the course. Addressing the ball with the same, powerful set-up is going to help you hit more consistent, solid shots.
