Practice acts of mercy. In our own sufferings they give us confidence before God; they
contribute much to the value of our prayers, and they secure for our prayers a reception
full of mercy, seeing they proceed themselves from a merciful heart.

As we reenter the Ordinary Season of the Church
year our discipleship messages from the scrip-
tures and the loving followers of Jesus remind us
that God is Love. We have many ways in which
we can manifest the love that comes from God to us. “Every
volunteer or coworker who came to Calcutta soon heard the
story about the minister from the Indian government who
once said to Mother Teresa, ‘”You and I we both do social
work, but there is a big difference between you and us. We
do it for something, and you do it for someone.’” (Mother
Teresa of Calcutta. Leo Maasburg. P. 60). The loving mes-
sages that teach us how to be the disciples of Jesus come in a
variety of ways. Remembering the someone is key to our
learning.
Come and visit at the Monsignor House on Thursday July 13
from 3:30-5:30. Kathie will be there and the front door will
be open for you. If you have any questions, please come
over on Thursday or call Kathie at 781-5033.
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” -
MATTHEW 11:30
When we think of being good stewards, we may think that
God is asking too much of us when He calls us to gener-
ously share our time, talent and treasure. However, we
must remember that we are not “owners” of anything, we
are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. All
He is asking is that we give back a small portion of what
He has already given to us.
Musicians Rehearsals are suspended for the sum-
mer. You are still invited to join the music ministry,
30 minutes before Mass to go thru music. All voices
and most instruments are welcome to help lead the music.
Liturgical Bits and Bytes ~ Homily: You critique your
homilist all the time. Talking with other parishioners, around
the family table, at work, and in your mind over and over
you’ve formed a lot of opinions about what your preacher
says. But have you ever told a homilist what you think?
Most preachers get very little feedback from the assembly.
But preachers have ways of finding out what people think.
Does the parent of a crying child make any effort to calm the
baby? Are people reading the bulletin instead of listening to
the talk? Do jokes fall flat? Are some people poised to stand
up as soon as the homily ends, like sprinters waiting for the
whistle? Preachers have a general idea how attentive the lis-
teners are. But most preachers don’t get systematic feedback.
And homilists rarely get to hear one another. You may try
out several different preachers in the course of a year, but
homilists don’t. They work on Sundays.
If you’ve got something to say to your homilist, you’d do
the whole parish a favor by speaking up. You should say

positive things as well as negative ones. And never do it anony-
mously. Say it in person, on the phone, or write it and sign your
name. You’ll learn tact and you’ll accept responsibility for what
you say. Your preacher may want to talk with you about your
ideas. Here are some points to consider when you give feedback:
Communication: Do you get the point of the talk?
Organization: Does the homily have a beginning, a middle, and
an end?
Scripture: Does the homily help you understand and apply the
Scripture?
Significance: Does the homily touch your life?
Appearance: Do your preacher’s appearance or habits distract
you from the message?
Sincerity: Does your preacher seem to believe the message?
Audio: Do the sound system and acoustics help you hear?
Improvement: Is your preacher better now than a year ago?
Only you can change your opinions from idle gossip to helpful
dialogue. Paul Turner Copyright © 2012 Resource Publications, Inc., 160 E. Virginia St. #170, San Jose, CA 95112, (408) 286-8505.
St. Vincent de Paul is having a DIAPER DRIVE. Any
sizes are welcome and needed. Diapers may be left at
the thrift store, 426 Central Ave. W. or at the parish and
will be picked up there. Thank you for your support!
Saint Vincent de Paul food bank has grown thanks to wonderful do-
nations. We would like to expand food deliveries to the Vaughn/
Sun River area. Please let us know if someone is willing to make a
once a month delivery out that way. Call June or Isaac at 761-0870.
HELP NEEDED! We are looking for some volun-
teers to help water the community garden behind
Father Dick’s house. The rotation will depend on
how many people volunteer. Please call Chris at
590-4406. Thank you!
