WELCOME NEW STAFF MEMBERS On July 1, we welcomed the Rev. Sharon Quate as Assistant Pastor. This appointment is a very part-time position, but will bring another source of insight and guidance for our congregational life. This is the first time since 1975 we’ve had two pastors appointed and she is the first woman appointed as a pastor at College Place. Sharon is a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary in D.C. and has been a Local Pastor in Western North Carolina Conference. She will be helping with worship, children, and general pastoral responsibilities.
We also welcome Jaida Shearin to assist with our nursery and young disci-ples. She’ll be helping Melody, Kamala, and Lauren with our growing number of children on Sunday mornings and for special occasions and help us to en-sure that the nursery is staffed on Sunday mornings.
Be sure and greet our new staff members and introduce yourself to them.
SUMMER BOOK CLUB Join us this summer for our summer book club as we read together the book “Waking Up White, and Finding Myself in the Story of Race” by Deb-by Irving. The remaining Small Group Gatherings: July 24th to discuss chapters 12-20, August 21st to discuss chapters 21-33, Sep-tember 11th to discuss chapters 33-45 Monday, Sept. 17th, 7:30pm, First Presbyterian Church we will go to hear Debby Irving, our book’s author, speak.
A FUN EVENING AT LAKE DANIEL The Staff are hosting an evening Picnic at Lake Daniel Park and you’re invited. They like to host our congregation on Wednesday, July 25, for Hot Dogs (Beef and Veggie), slaw, baked beans, chips, drinks, and some kind of ice cream. W e’ll plan to eat at 6:30 pm.
If you haven't been to Lake Daniel Park, it’s located at 410 Mimosa Dr. To get there, you can take Mimosa Dr. off of W. Friendly Ave just beyond the W. Market St. split off and go down the hill toward the creek. It’s 1.1 mile from the church and a map and directions from the church are available in vestibules and by the office. There is shade and picnic tables, benches, restrooms, play equipment for our kids (and adults w ho act like kids).
There’ll be reservation sheets in the bulletins, or call or email Carol in the office. Please sign up for this special event so we may plan accordingly.

ly 29th—Amazing Grace. The schedule is posted on the choir r oom door . Tha nks!! - Susan
Do you have a little spare time to help water our flowers?
We could use your help. Hot weather is a huge challenge to our
plants. It usually takes about an hour to give our
pots and newer plants a drink. If you’d be willing
to help once or twice a week, let Jason know and
we can develop a plan of attack for the dry
weather ahead.
