July 4th, Week 10 - Term 2 TPS NEWS From John and Silvia ..... Staffing Elese Wolstencroft, our room 3 teacher on Thursdays and Fridays, is going on maternity leave for term 3 and some of term 4. We wish Elese all the best for the impending birth of her second child. In Elese’s absence we welcome Emma de Cure to Torrensville. Emma has worked in many classes here and is planning closely with both Elese and Sarah to ensure there is a smooth handover to support the class. We have two teachers on leave for the first two weeks of term 3. Jill Annicchiarico (Room 20) and Maria Nasone (Room10). Jill will be replaced by Bela Rodriques, and Maria by Helena Kyriacou. Congratulations to Elaine Magias, Sue Carey, Georgia Allen, Marina Karzis and John McCade for their nominations for the 2019 Public Education Awards. Thank you to the school community members who thought these staff members deserved recognition for the role they play in our school. Hats in Term 3! A final reminder regarding our new SunSmart Policy. The policy requires students to be wearing hats in term 3. Classrooms will also have sun screen for children to self administer. This means TPS is now officially a SunSmart School. Great night, great success! Congratulations to Amy Ralfs, Michelle Toyias , Kon Toyias, Michelle van Oss, Olivia Towers, Tom Bastians (our fantastic quiz master), Martha Lott and Mel Eldridge. This team of parents organised and ran our amazing Quiz Night last Friday night, we applaud them! It was a huge success, raising just over $6,000! This Year, TPS is becoming a SALA venue for the very first time. Classes and individuals will be drawing inspiration from our theme ‘Our Natural Environment’, and exhibiting work on Friday the 23rd and Monday the 26th of August for the public. We invite families and artists in our local community to join us and participate.

If you are interested in exhibiting your work at our venue please contact Laura Blackeby at [email protected] with a brief description of your work including size and how it would be best displayed.SA

Room 23 & Our Big Back YardWe had lots of fun. First we went into the S.T.E.M. area then we drew pictures about what we would like a playground to be. Then we went to see Katie from Climbing Trees and we made a playground with nature, it was a bit hard but we finally got it and it could stand up. We were so happy it stopped breaking instead of falling down. By Christina and Tamara

We drew pictures of what we like to play with. West Torrens council came outside the S.T.E.M area to talk about playgrounds. We went to our playground to see Katie and we made playgrounds out of 5 things from nature. It was fun. Climbing Trees do not use plastics because it is bad for the environment. By Noah and Harrison.

We met West Torrens council outside the S.T.E.M. area and we drew pictures of what we would like for playgrounds. Then we met Katie from Climbing Trees and we built a playground withbark chips. Sticks and seed pods. We made a swimming pool a tree house and a sand pit. It is important for the council to know what kids want, like how we discover things outside kids get fresh air and it is so good to be outside.
