Thereisadescriptionaboutan incident inRupaGoswamislife.RupaGoswami

oncehadadeepdesiretoservehisbrotherSanatanaGoswamisomesweetrice.

Howeverhedidnothavethefacilityforgettingthericepreparationunderway.Just

asRupaGoswamiwaswonderingwhattodo,therearrivedayounggirlwhohad

notyetreachedheradolescence.Shewascarryingwithher,Milk,Rice,Sugar,

Stoveetc.AssheapproachedRupaGoswamishehandedovertheingredientsto

him saying that this shouldsortout thingsand thatheshouldstartmaking the

sweet rice.When Sanatana Goswami tasted the sweet rice, he immediately

enteredintodivineecstasy thatwasindescribable.SanatanaGoswamienquired

fromRupaGoswamiastowhohadmadeprovisionsfortherawmaterial.Rupa

GoswamitoldSanatanaGoswamithatayounggirlhadcometohimandhanded

overtheingredientstohim.SantanaGoswamiimmediatelyjumpedinexcitement

andexclaimedthat theverysameSrimatiRadharaniwhowas theobjectof the

brothers devotion in the guise of a small village girl had approached Rupa

Goswami and it was unfortunate that instead of serving Her, they had taken

service from Her. This was the standard of Bhakti which the two brothers

displayedandsuchawas their levelofdevotionalservice,exceptionalandvery

raretofind.

There is an incident in the life of one of the other four Goswamis, Srila

RaghunathaDasGoswami.Hewouldchant190roundsofMahamantradaily.He

wouldbeoftenlostintranceashechantedtheholynamesoftheLord.Afterhis

roundshewouldpartakejusttwodropsofbuttermilk.OncewhenRaghunathDas

Goswamiwasindeeptranceashechantedhisbeads,therewasalionthatwas

preparingtoattackhim.RaghunathDasGoswamiwasquiteobviouslyobliviousof

this fact and continued his chanting. As the lion prepared for its kill , there

appearedonthescene,abluebodycoloredyouth,wearingsilkyyellowgarments

andholding astick inhis hands.Hestoodbeside themeditatingGoswamiand

staredat theLion.Hesignaledtheliontoretract itsintentionsandstrangely the

lionwasimmediatelysubdued.Theanimalbackedoutanddisappearedfromthe

place.ItissaidthatinVrindavananobodybearsenmitywithanyone.Allthiswas

being observed by Sanatana Goswami. Sanatana Goswami immediately

summoned Raghunatha DasGoswami and told him that althoughRaghunatha

DasGoswamisdevotiontotheLordwaslaudable,hehadtounderstandthatto

keep his devotional service going, the Supreme Lord also had to Himself

contribute towards that end. So saying Sanatana Goswami narrated all that

happened to Raghunatha DasGoswami. Sanatana Goswami toldRaghunatha

DasGoswamithatBhajanameanstoofferservicestotheLordandnottakeHis

services, which was evident in the above incident. Hence Santana GoswamirequestedRaghunathaDasGoswami to construct aBhajana Kuti whichwould

offersafetyasheperformedhisdevotionalpractice.Thiswouldensurethatbeasts

willbekeptawayfromthevicinitysincetheydonotenterhutsorKuti.Thiswas

theconceptofaBhajanaKutiandtheveryfirstBhajanaKutiwasconstructedfor

RaghunathaDasGoswamiatthebehestofSanatanaGoswami.

There was another incident in the life of Sanatana Goswami which is worth

mentioning.OnceamanapproachedSanatanaGoswamiandtoldhimthathehad

cometoknowthatSanatanaGoswamihadatouchstoneorChintamaniwithhim

whichcouldconvertanybasemetaltogold.SanatanaGoswamitoldthisperson

thatitwastrueindeed,howeverhehadthrownitintothenearbygarbagebin.If

thepersonwassointerested,heshouldgoandpickitupfromthere.Theguest

now started wondering if Sanatana Goswami had thrown something like the

Chintamani into the garbage bin, he would be definitely in possession of

somethingmoresuperiorthanthetouchstone.Whenthemanenquiredaboutthis

toSanatanaGoswami,SanatanaGoswamisaidthathepossessedtheHarinaam

Chintamaniwithhimwhichwassuperiortoanymaterialpossession.Thusbased

onthisincidentthereisalsoaliteraryworkbySrilaBhaktiVinodeThakurwhichis

knownasHarinaamChintamani.

OnceRupaGoswamiwroteapoeminwhichhehaddescribedtheflowinghairof

Srimati Radharani to be like black snakes.Sanatana Goswami felt that itwas

inappropriatetocompareSrimatiRadharanishairtoblacksnakesandwantedto

changethelineswrittenbyRupaGoswami.ThenextdayasSanatanaGoswami

cametoRadhaKundaforhisdailyablutions,heobservedthatthereweresome

younggirlshavingbathintheKunda.Therewasacertaingirlwhowastakingbath

andshehadablacksnaketwirledonherhead.SeeingthisSanatanaGoswami

wentaghast.Heimmediatelycriedforhelpandwent running towardstheyoung

girl. To his amazement the young girl disappeared. Thus it struck Sanatana

GoswamithatitwasRadharaniHerselfwhohadcomeinpersontosanction the

descriptionofherhairbyRupaGoswami.SanatanaGoswami thus realized that

therewasnoneedtochangethelinesthatdescribedSrimatiRadharanishairto

be like blacksnakes. This indicated that the exalted position ofbothRupaand

SanatanaGoswamiwheretheLordandHisconsortintervenedfromtimetotime

andgavethemassurance.

There isanother instance in thelifeofSanatanaGoswami.SanatanaGoswami

used todohis prayers in the ChakaleshwarMandir in Vrindavana.Howeverhe

wasconstantlytroubledbymosquitoesinthatarea.SanatanaGoswamimadeup

hismindtovacatetheplaceandlookforanewplacewherehecouldcarryouthis

devotional serviceunabated. SriChakaleshwar whowas none other than Lord

SivaappearedintheformofaBrahmanaandassuredSanatanaGoswamithatthe mosquito problem would be solved immediately. LordSiva summoned the

presidingdeityofthemosquitoandinstructedhimtokeepawayfromthetemple

premises. Itis awellknowfactthateven todayattheChakaleshwarMandir in

Vrindavanathereisnosignofmosquitoeswithinthepremises,howeveraswe

stepoutofthetemple,theplaceisinfestedbymosquitoes.

SanatanaGoswamihadaverystrictroutineeveryday.Heusedtodoa25km

Govardhan parikrama every day. After this hewould do his 190mala rounds.

Thenhewould do his namaskarswhichwouldbeabout 1000 on specialdays.

Afterthisifhegottimehewouldconsumesomefood.SanatanaGoswamiwas

reveredbythewholeofBrajaDeshandhewasoftenwelcomedbytearsof lovebytheinnocentvillagefolk.Hewouldenquireaboutthepeopleswelfareandhe

wouldoftenspendsomegoodtimewiththem.Hewouldbehonoredamplybythe

village folks. SanatanaGoswami thus indulged in thisstrangeroutineof crying

andmakingothers cry out of love.Sanatana Goswamihada very strict routine

everyday.Heusedtodoa25kmGovardhanparikramaeveryday.Afterthishe

woulddohis190malarounds.Thenhewoulddohisnamaskarswhichwouldbe

about1000onspecialdays.Afterthisifhedidgettimehewouldconsumesome

morsels.SanatanaGoswamiwasreveredbythewholeofBrajaDeshandhewas

oftenwelcomed by tearsofloveby the innocentvillage folk.Hewould enquire

aboutthepeopleswelfareandhewouldoftenspendsomegoodtimewiththem.

Hewouldbehonoredamplybythevillagefolks.SanatanaGoswamithusindulged

inthisstrangeroutineofcryingandmakingotherscryoutoflove.Therewasa

certain village in Braja which Sanatana Goswami used to frequent and the

innocent villagers used to compel him to stay back all the time by saying

sit..sit..sit..do not leave In Hindi it translated to Baithan Baithan and this

particular villagewas thusnamedBaithan.SrilaSanatanaGoswamiusedtodo

hispoojatoSriSriMadanaMohanawhichwasinonecornerofVrindavanaand

thentravelonfoottoGovardhanawhichinmoderndaystakes1hourtotravelby

busfromVrindavana.SrilaSanatanaGoswamineverusedtocompromiseinhis

austeritiesandfollowedhisstrictroutinethroughoutlife.
