Dear Public Radio 90 Members,This is my last letter to you as Public Radio 90 Station Manager.

I am honored to have been able to be a part of such a valued community resource for so many years.

As I write this letter on June 24th, a week away from the end of our 2021 fiscal year, you and other Public Radio 90 members have already put us over the top of our $400,000 annual goal with a current total of $409,536 and counting.

You are awesome!

This past year has been a crazy one for sure.

We are so thankful to our listener-members who both increased in numbers and their giving during FY2021 with contributions increasing 24% from $330,631 in FY20 to $409,536 in FY21. In addition, we welcomed 154 new members to our Public Radio 90 family, who stepped up to the plate and made their very first contribution. Throughout the past year, we received financial gifts from 1664 Public Radio 90 listening households (including 564 Sustaining Members)and 107 businesses and organizations... As of June 2021 more than 1 of every 3 Public Radio 90 members uses Sustaining Membership to contribute. Our current 564 Sustaining Members, who give an average of $22 per month, have committed to giving $147,680 during FY22.

With all the closures from the coronavirus pandemic over the past year, it’s not surprising that business and organizational support continued to lag behind listener support. We did however gain back 17% of the lost revenue from FY20. Thankfully, we’re starting to see business support pick back up again during June.

Thank you for your tremendous generosity. The local and national public radio programming that WNMU-FM is able to bring you is a direct reflection of the financial support we receive each year.

Your financial gifts are an investment in the future of our upper Great Lakes region. They not only keep us on the air, they enable us to enhance and expand our program services for you. We’re here for you because of you.

Thank you for helping to make my time in Public Broadcasting so rewarding.

I’m looking forward to turning over the reigns to Tammy Johnson our new Station Manager, and the rest of the WNMU staff who will take Public Radio 90 in to the future bringing us even more reasons to upgrade our Sustaining Memberships.

Happy Summer Everyone.

Warm Regards,

Evelyn Massaro/ Retired Station Manager

Beaumier uP Heritage Center at nmu (The Center is located in Gries Hall at the corner of 7th St and Lee Dr)

A Beautiful Location: The Architecture of NMUSunday, February 9 from 4–7 pm CT

“A Beautiful Location,” looks at how Northern Michigan University went from a one building campus in a remote part of Marquette, to its expansion as a modern campus of the 1960s and the wired-community of today. NMU has had a rich and fascinating physical history. The campus features some of the region’s most significant structures designed by Michigan’s greatest architects. From the now demolished Kaye Hall, designed by D. Frederick Charlton, to Harden Hall (originally the Learning Resources Center) designed by Michigan’s most famous architect, Alden B. Dow, Northern’s campus is a mix of unique architectural styles and aesthetics. The exhibition will feature key information about each structure, including photo-graphs, maps, architectural plans. In addi-tion, the exhibition will have a time-lapse map showing how the campus has grown and spread out over the past 122 years. There will also be display cases featuring architectural fragments, signs and artifacts connected with buildings no longer in exis-tence on campus. To contact the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center, call 906-227-3212 or e-mail [email protected] is free and open to the public.Currently, all visitors will need to wear a mask unless they are fully vaccinated.Open Monday through Friday, 9a–4p. and Saturdays from 12–4p, through September 4.

14th Annual North of the 45thMonday–Fridau, 12–5 pm Now through Friday, July 30An annual juried exhibition of artists living in the geographical area north of the 45th parallel in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minne-sota. This line is known as the halfway point between the equator and the north pole, and crossing this line from the south is often associated with being “up north.” The exhibition and this catalogue showcase the breadth and depth of artists living in this upper Midwest region from both rural and urban areas. Each year, under the guidance of a juror, the exhibitions are completely different but equally fascinating to present. This year’s exhibition is juried by Ron Platt. Platt is Chief Curator at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, where he plans and organizes the Museum’s program of changing exhibitions and leads the presentation and growth of GRAM’s permanent collection.Free & Open to the Public

The Red Jacket Jamboree with Chris BuhalisSunday, July 25 at 7 pm

Born in Detroit, singer/songwriter Chris Buhalis is a prominent figure in Michigan’s folk scene. He opted for the rambling life he sings about in his warm Americana songs. Years of wayfaring, from Alaska to Texas with plenty of points in between, influ-enced his 1998 debut, Kenai Dreams, a roots-folk set with a wandering spirit sung in a dusty Midwestern croon. His second LP, released in 2016, Big Car Town, features longtime collaborator Jeff Plankenhorn along with prominent Michigan musicians like Joshua Davis and Michael Shimmin.Tickets $24. https://ticketstripe.com/RJJchrisbuhalis
