Pastor Jerry - Winning In Your Finances!

In 2006, when my late wife Debbie became ill we began to pray together about God’s plan for the education of our children if her sickness prevented her from teaching them at home or if her sickness was a sickness unto death. (Up until then we had educated all of our children at home.) In her final weeks, we both sensed that God was leading us to send Jeremiah, Mercy, and William to Christian Heritage Academy.

William graduated in May so recently I added up all our expenses at CHA between August 2007 and June 2015. It cost $94,234.49 in tuition and expenses for Jeremiah, Mercy, and William to all graduate from CHA.

After Debbie’s death, we began to receive gifts from people to support the education of our children. I kept very accurate records of what I paid out of my pocket to CHA. After the gifts, I ended up paying only $9276.57 of the $94,234.49 in expenses.

When we made this decision, one of the people that encouraged us to trust God to provide what we needed was my adopted mom Joy Burgess. I was adopted into the Burgess family after my father passed away in 1977. My adopted father Bob passed away in 1992. Bob’s father Boyd Burgess passed away a few years ago. My two adopted sisters and I were 3 of the beneficiaries to granddad Burgess’s estate. From his estate we each received over $9000.00. I was able to use that gift for what remained of William’s education at CHA. God provided every dollar for something that was above our salary from the church and not in our budget at the time we made the decision. Sending them to CHA really cost me nothing.

To God winning in our finances does not mean getting rich or being able to buy what we want. Winning in our finances means knowing and doing the will of God and then seeing God provide everything we need to do His will. (Matthew 6:33).

Beginning Sunday, July 12, we will begin a series of messages called “Winning In Your Finances.” From God’s Word we will see what God has to say about how to win in our finances. We will be encouraged by some remarkable testimonies from God’s Word and from our own people of how God provided for what He called for. I hope you will join us for these very important messages from God’s Word.

Current Sermon Series…

Winning!

Jesus said that His Church would win!

Our current sermon series is entitled

Winning: Stories of Victory. We are going

to study the Word of God and learn what

we need to believe and what we need to

do to win as followers of Christ.

We are going to learn how to win

emotionally over feelings of

disappointment, failure, fear, anger,

rejection, loneliness, anxiety, and grief.

We are going to learn how to win in our

finances, our marriage, and our mission

as disciples of Jesus.

We hope you will join us each

Sunday and join one of our groups as we

use stories to discover what God’s Word

says about Winning!

Brandon Werner - A Place to Play Small Groups don’t mean a lot to spiritual young adults and parents unless they feel like they are able to get into the game and play (AKA: join their Mission Team in making disciples for Jesus).

For someone who is spiritually dead or a spiritual infant, the small group meetings are full of rich lessons that will help seekers grow in their knowledge and walk with Jesus. However, many spiritual young adults and parents may feel these lessons are not as deep as they would prefer. That is because the richness of small group for the spiritually mature is not first and foremost the lesson; although, the Holy Spirit will certainly use the lesson to teach even the most mature believer if they will let Him. No, the richest, deepest part of small group for the spiritually mature is the opportunity to work together with a team to make disciples! Therefore, spiritually mature individuals need a place to play in the small group. This means inviting friends to group, leading a time of worship or prayer, telling the Bible storying, facilitating discussion, serving other team members throughout the week, going with the leader to make a hospital visit, etc. If you are more spiritually mature and your small group has seemed a little shallow, it is time to ask your leader to put you in the game!

You may have noticed that I left out the spiritual child. Why? Because when you see view small group this way it is easy to recognize a spiritual child: they are the ones who complain that the lesson is not meeting their needs (because they are no longer spiritually ignorant), but they also refuse to start making disciples and get into the game (because they are self-centered). If this is you, ask the Lord to soften your heart and lead you to work with your team to make disciples for Jesus.

Britt Clay - God is in Control

Recent advents in our nation have led to some difficult discussion for many of us. It has been hard and heavy. One challenge that my wife Lauren and I were recently discussing is the fact that so many today do not see scripture as relevant or necessary. A passage of scripture that has been coming to my mind is Romans 1:18-32. It outlines how all people are held accountable to God because His truth has been revealed to them and how God has revealed himself through His creation. Because of this we are all without excuse. Despite this, this passage says that people become futile in their thinking and though they claim to be wise they are fools. As a result of this God gives people up to the lust of their hearts. We can see this taking place in our nation today with the recent ruling for the legalization of homosexual marriage. Even though people know that according to God marriage is between one man and one woman, in verse 32 it says, people not only do their hearts desire but they give approval of it.

As I have read this passage in light of what has been taking place it has encouraged me to see the truth that God word is applicable today despite what people say or think. This mindset is not one of closed-mindedness but living out this truth in faith and believing that God is in control of every situation.

Jack Clay - Are You Ready For This?

Probably by time you receive this newsletter the Supreme Court of our United States will have made a

ruling on the legalization of gay marriage in our land. Unless God intervened, the law of the land will be

in direct violation of the Word of God and the Biblical view of marriage which is so clear regarding the

marriage relationship being between one man and one woman for life. To disobey the law of the land at

that point will cause great turmoil and divisiveness in our land.

As I was speaking with one of the pastors at Park Street Church in Boston this past Spring, he

shared with me how the LGBT community has prepared for the passage of this unbiblical law and has

already plans to attack many of the major churches in America which stand for the truth of scripture as

soon as the courts rule in their favor. How could something like this be happening in America? The

decay of the family unit was foretold by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI in the 1960’s, as the one thing

that would ultimately cause the downfall of our nation. We, as followers of Christ, must be prepared to stand in these days against the evil

which we are facing. We must protect our families and educate our children in God’s design for marriage and the family. Just because

something is legal, does not mean that it is right.

In the Old Testament, Daniel was used by God to boldly raise the standard of truth while living in the pagan society of Babylon. Let us

pray that God will continue to use us to raise the standard of truth for this community and that we will become prayer warriors in our world,

sharing the love of Christ with the lost, making disciples as Jesus commanded and building our marriages and homes according to God’s

design as outlined in His Holy Word.

Dare to be a Daniel – Bro. Jack
