Known as the greatest celebration on Earth, Pacific Place brought the Rio Carnival to Jakarta to honor Brazil’s hosting of the 2014 World Cup. On May 23, Pacific Place was wondrously transformed into the beautiful and exotic city of Rio de Janeiro!

The festivities began at the main entrance with a decoration of two giant Samba dancers in a flowing skirt to welcome all our guests. As guests entered the mall, the soft sounds of birds chirping, rivers flowing and Brazilian music could be heard flowing through the air. In the main atrium,

three different Carnival floats were erected with each floating representing one aspect of the Rio celebration. On the eastern side of the atrium sits the Football Float celebrating the World Cup. On the western side sits the flora and fauna float inhabited by the tropical birds of Brazil. And at the heart of Pacific Place sits the grand Masquerade Float symbolizing the parade of costumes during Carnival. The three floats all combine together to represent all that is Brazil.

In addition to the decorations, there were also a variety of performances to entertain our guests. From the soulful music of Brazilian beats to the pumping beats of mixed Brazilian Samba. Over the weekends, there were the Drums & Dash, Dashing Dances, and Fabrics of Fantasy performances. These became the most popular and anticipated performances of the week. The excitement of the percussions along with the energetic spirit of the Capoeira dancers created a mood like no others for our customers. Everybody was absorbed into the groove of the performance and the children joined in the dance. Finishing off with a bang, a special parade around the Ground Floor was held in Rio Carnival fashion!

On Level 3, children were also getting involved with their own Rio Carnival activities with Face The Fun and Magic Balloon. Children participating in Face The Fun and Magic Balloon were able to express themselves with a selection of face painting and specially shaped balloons.

With such a wide range of festival activities at Pacific Place for both children and adults, it was easy to imagine and relive the Brazilian experience of the Rio Carnival. There was definitely something for everyone and a piece of Rio memory for everyone to take home this summer.

Confessions of A Late NighT Shopaholic

Last year, Pacific Place brought you the first ever Late Night Sale at Pacific Place. But of course with sales, once is never enough. This year, Pacific Place extended its shopping experience again with two nights of splendid offers, prizes, and non-stop entertainment. Starting at 8 PM and running on to strike of midnight, shoppers were able to shop to their heart’s content. Many of the brands at Pacific Place participated during these two nights offering special delights throughout the night. Aksara brought special ice creams to customers who participated in their book/CD promo. F&B tenants offered special midnight snacks for our midnight shoppers!

Live acoustic bands and DJs performed throughout the night, setting the celebratory mood and ambience for participating guests. Spicing up the Late Night Sale, Pacific Place also gave away a variety of prizes ranging from the latest tech gadgets to spa and hotel vouchers to lucky shoppers. It’s no wonder that people were lining up fervently to find out what prize they won.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.
