Brothers,

Summer is here so I hope every-one is enjoying the beautiful weather. July will be a quiet month for the council so I hope everyone has a great summer.

Our council lost one of its charter members on June 18th. Brother Jack Joseph Sapnaro lost his cou-rageous battle to leukemia. Br. Jack and his beautiful bride Rose attended many council functions and they were both very active in the church and the school for over 55 years. The plaque for “Deceased Brother Knights” has been updated and will be put into the bar soon. I would like to thank Br. Joe Montoya for helping me out with the celebration for the Sapnaro family. Also I would like to personally thank Marie Nitz, of the Health Ministry, and the Le-gion of Mary group who provided much support and love.

The Feast of St. Robert BBQ was held on Saturday, June 8th. The severe heat deterred the number of guests that attended. We held the event in the gym, which was better than being outdoors. The council purchased a $100 Staple’s gift card for the school.

The Handicapable’s Brunch was held on Sunday, June 9th in the gym. There were a total of 25 guests and they had a great time eating and the raffle. I want to thank the brothers from the Hand-icapable’s for getting the guest there.

I would like to thank the brothers and their families that assisted at both events. Also, I would like to thank the Legion of Mary and Heath Ministry for their continued support and assistance during these events.

The council held a 1st Degree Ex-emplification on Thursday, June 20th. We would like to welcome Brothers Steve Dacong and Larry Wager Junior to the council. There were a total of 3 brothers that received their 1st Degrees.

If any brother needs any insurance please contact our field agent, Br. Justin Tanjuaquio (Justin [email protected]). His phone number is 916.201.0981. The order is also looking for any interested persons becoming a field agent. Please inquire with Br. Justin.

Save these dates for upcoming events for the month of July2013

Thursday, July 11th-Officer’s Meeting @ 6:30 pm

Please pray for our ill Brother Ed Rogala and hope he gets well soon.

Insurance Corner DON'T WAIT, ACT TODAY

Hollywood Knights Page 3

When your family is hungry, you see that this need is taken care of quickly. You don't put it off until tomorrow; you act immediately to the best of your ability. As a provider to your wife and children, your responsibilities are great and your time is spread thin. It is easy to forget important tasks or let them slip to the back burner for later.

Every day, including your health, can change in the blink of an eye. Don't do it tomorrow what you can do today. As your professional Knights of Columbus agent, I urge you to make securing life insurance for you and your family a top priority

It is my fraternal obligation to make sure that every member has the opportunity to protect his family with the Order's top-rated insurance products. I will work with you and put a plan in place that will help your family when that help is what they needed the most.

Your K of C insurance program is second to none. As the premier safety net for Catholic families for more than 130 years, our insurance program makes me proud. I'm very concerned that too many of our brother knights have not yet looked into the needs of their families. I think for many of them, life insurance has drifted to the back burner until to-morrow. Don't be one of them. Move your insurance needs to the forefront today.

Let's get together as soon as possible.

Fraternally yours,

Justin Tanjuaquio, FICF (916) 726-0981 CA LIC 0C46842 [email protected]

The Knights of Columbus insurance program passed a major milestone when total insurance in force exceeded $90 billion in June. The amount of life insurance in force has more than doubled from $40 billion since Supreme Knight Carl Anderson took office in 2000.

Established in 1882 as a Catholic fraternal benefit society, the Knights of Columbus has worked to enable members to protect their families’ financial futures from the very beginning. What began as a “pass-the-hat” benefit program has grown into one of the na-tion’s premier insurers. The K of C now offers a diverse portfolio of permanent and term life insurance, disability income insurance, annuities, and long-term care programs to members and their immediate families.

“Protecting the financial viability of Catholic families has been important to the Knights since our founding, and the milestone of $90 billion in coverage means that we are meeting the needs of more families than ever,” said Supreme Knight Anderson. “Our members come to us and stay with us for their insurance needs because they know they will be treated like family and will receive excellent value and products from their agent who is a brother Knight, backed by an organization whose rating for financial strength is second to none in North America.”

The Knights of Columbus has more than $19.8 billion in assets under management and ranks among the Fortune 1000 list of Ameri-ca’s largest companies. Every year since 1975, the Knights has earned the top rating of A++ (Superior) from A.M. Best, a global leader in the rating and credit analysis of insurance companies. There is no insurer in North America with a higher rating.

As a fraternal benefit society, the Knights of Columbus uses much of the proceeds from its insurance program to directly fund char-itable projects and to provide support for the charitable work of its approximately 15,000 local councils. One of the most active charitable groups in the United States, Knights of Columbus members last year set records despite the weak economy by providing nearly 70 million hours of charitable service and more than $167 million in donations to charitable causes. During the past decade, the Knights of Columbus has donated more than $1.44 billion to charity and provided nearly 673 million hours of volunteer service in support of charitable initiatives.

By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. In July, it is the Precious Blood of Jesus. (The Feast of the Precious Blood, established by Pope Pius IX in 1849, is celebrated each year on the first Sunday of July.) The Precious Blood, like the Sacred Heart of Jesus, has long been venerated for its role in our redemption.

Some or all of the following prayers can be incorporated into our daily prayers during the Month of the Precious Blood. Petition to Jesus Christ

Lord Jesus Christ, who camest down from heaven to earth from the bosom of the Father, and didst shed Thy Precious Blood for the remission of our sins: we humbly beseech Thee, that in

the day of judgment we may deserve to hear, standing at Thy right hand: "Come, ye blessed." Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen. For the Fruits of the Precious Blood

Almighty and everlasting God, who hast appointed Thy only-begotten Son to be the Redeemer of the world, and hast been pleased to be reconciled unto us by His Blood, grant us, we beseech Thee, so to venerate with solemn worship the price of our salvation, that the power thereof may here on earth keep us from all things hurtful, and the fruit of the same may gladden us for ever hereafter in heaven. Through the same Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. Precious Blood Prayer to the Mother of God

Dear Mother of God and purest virgin, do offer to the Heavenly Father the Precious Blood and merits of Jesus Christ for all poor sinners and for the prevention of mortal sin.

Dear Mother of God and Protectress of the Holy Church, do offer to the Heavenly Father the Precious Blood and Mer-its of Jesus Christ for our Holy Mother Church, for our Holy Father the Pope and his intentions, for our Bishop and his diocese.

Dear Mother of God, and my Mother also, do offer to the Heavenly Father the most Precious blood and the merits of Jesus Christ, His most holy and Divine Heart, and His infinite merits, for our cruelly persecuted brethren in every land where Christians suffer persecution. Offer them also for the unhappy pagans that they may learn to know Jesus, Thy Son, and their Redeemer, and for the liberty, victory, and extension of the Catholic Faith in all the countries of the world. Obtain also for the newly converted fidelity and constancy in our holy Faith. Amen.

One word

After a long illness, a woman died and arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the Gates. She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all the other peo-ple she had loved and who had died be-fore her.

They saw her and began calling greetings to her -- "Hello" "How are you! We've been waiting for you!" "Good to see you." When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him, "This is such a won-derful place! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.

"Which word?", the woman asked. "Love."

"The woman correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter welcomed her into Heaven.

"About two years later, Saint Peter came to the woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day. While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived.

"I'm surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a big mansion. My wife and I traveled all around the world. "We were on vacation and I went water skiing today. I fell, the ski hit my head, and here I am. "How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.

"Which word?", her husband asked. "Czechoslovakia."

In observance of the Year of Faith, Catholics from throughout the East Coast will gather in pilgrimage, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Con-ception in Washington, D.C. Popularly known as 'America’s Catholic Church,' the Basilica is the patronal church of the United States and its preeminent Marian shrine.

The date is also the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the Basilica’s 56-bell carillon, which was a gift of the Knights of Columbus.

The pilgrimage begins with Mass at noon, followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the Rosary and renewal of the Order’s con-secration to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Benediction and a carillon recital will conclude the activities at approximately 3 p.m. Confessions will be available

from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Year of Faith is designed to renew the faith of Catholics so that we will be credible, joy-filled witnesses to the Risen Lord in the world today, capable of leading others to faith.

The goal of the Year of Faith is to foster a deeper practice and witness of faith, as well as a deeper understanding of the truths of our faith that Jesus — the foundation of our faith — revealed. To do this, Catholics are encouraged to participate regularly in the sacraments, advance in personal prayer, participate in pilgrimages to sacred sites and improve their knowledge of the Church’s teachings, particularly through study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Knights of Columbus has a long history with the National Shrine. The K of C provided $1 million for the construction of the campanile, known as the Knights Tower, which was dedicated in 1959. Four years later, the organization donated a carillon of 56 bells. On the day of the dedication (Sept. 8, 1963), Archbishop Patrick O’Boyle of Washington said, “To the members of the Knights of Columbus, in the name of the bishops of the country, I say we are deeply grateful for this wonderful gift. Long after we are gone, this tower and these bells will be paying honor to God and to his Mother.”

The K of C also established a $1 million endowment in honor of Past Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart to promote Marian devotion at the National Shrine and to preserve and maintain the Basilica. For more than 30 years, Knights have funded, coordinated and staffed an usher ministry there. Since 1989, the K of C has regularly funded televised liturgies and other spiritual broadcasts from the Basilica. Most recently, the Knights donated $1 million for the installation of a mosaic depicting the Incarnation of Christ in the Great Upper Church.

Please join Knights and their family members to worship, pray and renew the Order’s consecration to Our Lady.

Sunday, September 8, 2013 Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

400 Michigan Avenue N.E., Washington, D.C., 20017

Pilgrimage highlights include: • Solemn Mass at 12 noon with Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore • Remarks by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson • Marian Meditation by Archbishop Gerald Lacroix of Québec, Primate of Canada • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with recitation of the Rosary • Rededication of the Order to the Blessed Virgin Mary • Carillon and Choir Prelude; Carillon Postlude • Confessions available 10:00 a.m. – noon • Pilgrims will be eligible to acquire a Year of Faith Plenary Indulgence
