Howdy friends and neighbours!

2012 is upon us, and another Fall Fair. September 7th, 8th, 9th are the dates, and boy do we have a show for you!

Those of you who attended in 2011 found out what a great Fair this hard working committee can put on in the Lakes District.

All events last year will take place again except for the Barnyard Olympics. We would like to thank Derek Feldmann for his past efforts of work, and sponsorship to the Olympics over the years.

The Horse people have come together and plan

to have many surprises for the public.

Look for Mr. Lego Man, and his outstanding collection of approx. one million pieces, and the kid’s wood construction tent.

There’s a great line up of entertainment, the Children’s Festival, Commercial Booths, food vendors along with the Roast Beef Dinner Saturday night.

So mark this fair in your calendar, and plan to attend. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

The agriculture industry in this province and throughout the world is an industry that is changing on a daily basis. Somebody somewhere has developed something new or made a modifi cation to some agricultural implement probably as you are reading this. When you drive around the country

and see all the farm machinery, keep in mind that it may have just been some farmer who wanted a better way to do it that developed that machine or maybe the major components of it.

The guiding principles of our fair are to give local exhibitors a way of promoting agriculture through its products, its lifestyle and to educate the public about agriculture.

You will notice that there are a variety of exhibits at our local fair. Fair exhibits are used to display both the direct products from agriculture as well as some of the spin off products used in the arts and crafts section.

The fair serves to remind the exhibitors and the spectators that “without agriculture there is no culture”.

We’re a proud sponsor of the Lakes District Fall Fair...Annually support the children’s festival with $500& supporting the Stock dog competition with $500

Have fun at the Fall Fair this year!

FIRST AND FOREMOST BE A GOOD EXHIBITOR BY BEING A GOOD SPORTSMAN: Be on time with your exhibits. Late openings are viewed as a management problem when in fact it may relate to late exhibits.

Follow the schedule explicitly. If rules or schedules are not clear, obtain clarifi cation before, not after, judging.

Do not blame the show committee if they fail to bring to your attention that you have entered incorrectly. This is your responsibility.

Label entries with the correct variety name, or identifi cation such as early or late, even if the schedule doesn’t request it. This adds to the educational value of the fair.

Competent people familiar with that division will do the judging. If through some fault of the show committee an entry is left, missed, or is

disqualifi ed through error, the exhibitor is entitled to a refund of the entry fee.

Exhibitors note that Divisions I through IX presently qualify for the Provincial Grant. To qualify for even the minimum grant these divisions must have 15 exhibitors and pay out $500.00 in prize money. Balance of divisions offered are not recognized classes and are funded by the local fair board and the donation of special prizes. Help us to continue to offer the variety of classes that appeal to all by entering at least one (1) of the above divisions. The Lakes District Fair Association thanks you for your assistance.

*Note: The Lakes District Fair Association follows the British Columbia Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions Judging Standards. Copies may be ordered directly from BC Fairs.

QUILTING(Chairpersons Janneke Shelford – 695-6554 and Margaret Gerow – 692-3217)PIECED QUILTS: Pieced quilts are made by sewing pieces of material together. The pattern is made by the colors of the pieces and the way they are put together.

APPLIQUED QUILTS: Appliqued quilts are those in which a design is cut from contrasting material and applied to the plain background material or quilt block. The cut out material makes the design.

PIECED & APPLIQUED:In these quilts the design is seamed together as in a pieced

quilt, then appliqued onto the surface of the quilt or onto blocks which are then seamed together.

EMBROIDERED QUILTS:On these quilts the principal design is created by embroider which may be the principal part of the design.
