A FEW WORDS FROM OUR NEW PRESIDENT

Thank you for voting me as your LCBA President for 2016-17. I am looking forward to a year where the LCBA provides quality educational opportunities, fun social events, and informative monthly meetings. I also send my sincere “Thank You!” to Judge McIntyre, now Past-President, for her leadership during her term.

I sometimes wonder whether the LCBA provides sufficient benefits to its members. We are all busy and finding time for one more thing is a challenge. I was recently reminded by Past-President John Gartland that the LCBA is the “glue” that keeps its members connected, that allows us to practice in the collegial atmosphere we enjoy, and that helps pass on the wisdom from experienced attorneys to newer attorneys.

During the next year the LCBA Board looks forward to continuing to be the “glue” and to find new ways to provide benefits to the members. We are working on a new user-friendly webpage that will allow members to sign-up and pay for events in one step. We are working on member pricing deals with local vendors. We are working on keeping the social events fresh and interesting.

We look forward to seeing you at our meetings, CLE’s, and other social events in 2016-17. Please remember to help us kick off our new year at the annual LCBA EMS’ night on August 24th. Thank you, K.C. Huffman

In Memory

George John Woodrich

April 8, 2016 – May 14, 2016

George John Woodrich passed away on May 14, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. His contributions to the legal community spanned five decades,

the last seventeen years of which were spent as a Lane County Circuit Court Judge. After his retirement in 1993, George continued to contribute to the community as an independent mediator. His passing is a great loss and he will be missed both professionally and personally by those whose lives he touched.

The Local Government Law Group (a member of Speer Hoyt LLC) is pleased to welcome the newest addition to our legal team, Mark Wolf. Mark is an Oregon native, having grown up in Eugene. After receiving an undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon in 2006, Mark spent several years in Portland working in the insurance industry. Mark then ventured back home to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon School of Law. He graduated from law school this last year and worked the last 9 months as a judicial clerk for Judge Lauren S. Holland at the Lane County Circuit Court.
