My Experience as a Winter Youth Intern for VCCAPS

I've had a great experience working as a Winter Youth Intern for Victoria County CAP Sites Association. I’ve learned great new skills that I can use in any direction I decide to take in the future for my career.

When I first started this job, I didn’t know much about making websites or blogs. Working with my great co-workers and with devoted volunteers, we were able to make a portal website where people in Ingonish can go to know what’s going on in their community; where they can go to be informed about news or events around us.

Starting on the top left, Christina Powers, Julia Donovan(me), and on the bottom Donna MacDonald & Annette MacKenzie.

With a lot of dedication and hard work we were finally able to get this site up and running with our own domain name, which iswww.ouringonish.ca

While working on this site I learned how to use the WordPress templates. I learned how to upload photos, videos, audio onto webpage's. I’ve also learned a little about html writing and learned how to embed photos and videos onto a webpage.

I’ve also been working on a tutorial for how to use the WordPress template and all the tool on WordPress. Even though I have been teaching Rosemary how to use WordPress, she or anyone else who will be maintaining the site will have something to look back at if they need help.

Thanks to Rosemary for volunteering her time and effort, she was a great asset to this project. Helping me get all the information together and getting it on the website. And thanks to her the website will be maintained in the future.

Also, while working as a Winter Youth Intern, I was able to become familiar with and receive training to use WebEx .

What is WebEx?WebEx is a system for holding meetings over

the web. With this system, presentations can be done through web conferencing, as a web meeting or as a video conference. It is a great way to share materials such as PowerPoint, word documents or even share your web browser.

This is a great way to have meeting because it’s in the comfort of your own home, it saves on fuel from driving back and forth, and you don’t have to worry about nasty weather conditions to have to drive in.

I’ve had an great experience working with everyone and learning new things. It has made me realized new things about myself such as gaining more confidence by training and working with others and preparing presentations.

I’ve had a pleasure working and meeting you all, and would like to thank you for this great opportunity.
