JULY 2015 4 HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY 4TH & 5TH Our Lady’s Pantry Collection 6 5:40 PM 4th Degree Bingo at VA Hospital meet in Conesa parking lot to car pool. All brothers are invited. 6 11:00 AM 3rd Degree Audit at Conesa Center. 14 6:30 PM 3rd Degree Installation of Officers. For officers please wear coat and tie. Refreshments will be served by the Ladies Auxiliary. Please arrive by 6:00 PM. 20 5:00 PM 4th Degree Executive Board Meeting. 6:30 PM 4th Degree Business Meeting (Refreshments) 28 6:00 PM Social. Details of the event will be announced. Refreshments will be served.

!AUGUST 2015 1st& 2nd Our Lady’s Pantry Collection. Anyone wishing to help brother Leo Pelzel with the collection please call him at 633-9656. 11 5:30 PM 3rd Degree Executive Board Meeting. After the meeting the Ladies from the Auxiliary will be invited into the chamber to brainstorm with us for the Italian Dinner to be held in September. 17 5:00 PM 4th Degree Executive Board Meeting. 6:30 PM 4th Degree Business Meeting. A Note of Appreciation The Ladies Auxiliary wish to

thank Bonnie Cummings for her dedication and leadership this past term. It’s hard to believe that we

are approaching our 4th year of the Ladies Auxiliary and look

forward to our new term Leader Walsi Armstrong.

We have been dedicated in helping with church activities, and working with the children within the Faith Formation ministry, and working hand-in hand to

support and assist these men we call Knights.

Thank you for all the support that you have provided me throughout these last few years. I have the great joy of announcing to you that I was ordained to the Diaconate on April 18th. It was an incredibly beautiful day. I have been assigned to St. Stephen (right up the road) for the summer. Perhaps I will see some of you throughout the summer. Dear Brothers’ !I just want to express a Heartfelt Thank You to all my brother Knights and their families for being there in my time of grief. The overwhelming response from Knights and friends alike for all their prayers and condolences helped comfort my family and myself during such a trying period. The Honor Guard and the beautiful flowers would have Mary Jane smile. I am a very fortunate man to have such good friends. Thank You again from the bottom of my heart. !

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE

My dear Brother Knights, !Man, time certainly flies. This past year seems to have passed in an instant. First, I want to thank you for however you helped this year. Whether working a Community Supper, assisting the hungry or working on Tootsie Roll your efforts are truly appreciated. We cannot achieve our goals without you fellows pitching in. !Our Worthy Chaplain deserves recognition for another year of working hand in hand with the Council in our work. We are fortunate indeed for such cooperation. !The Auxiliary and wives for letting us get out and do our things with their encouragement and hard work. Where would we be without them. !We all know what a good man we have coming in for another round as Grand Knight. I’m sure Mike will have many good things happening and will appreciate your support. !As I switch hats I look forward to working with you all. !Thank you for adding to the wonderful I have had. !John Armstrong

A big Thank you to Past Grand Knight John Armstrong and his staff of officers for their service and dedication this past Knight’s year and a big thank you to all the volunteers that assisted at the monthly dinners this past year. Lee Coldwell was a lifesaver on the wrap up of each event. Hats off to Val Korolevich for all his hard work and constant dedication for his planning and success in arranging the degree ceremonies, we now have nine new knights that made their 3rd degree thanks to Val’s efforts. Thank you to our council for their vote of confidence in electing me Grand Knight. This year with God’s help we will meet our goals and fulfill our purpose as Knights of Columbus and Catholic Gentlemen. We have an aggressive agenda laid out which should be a lot of fun coupled with some busy work. We hope to have a smooth and productive association with the Ladies Auxiliary as they are a tremendous help in all of our functions. We will be working with Diane Cerulli regarding our Youth Programs and as usual volunteers will be needed. Deputy Grand Knight Steve Rybbcznski is going to be a busy man, he will be covering for John Armstrong for a few weeks plus his Deputy duties and he is still working as a Professional Real Estate Agent with Keller - Williams, so we’ll need to give him some elbow room.

For those Knights that haven’t been to a meeting for a while please give it a shot. We want you, we need you, plus you deserve some good K of C fun. Welcome back Al Hamm he has recovered from his broken hip and looks cheery as ever. One last item, I am asking each Knight to say one little Hail Mary for the success of our council this coming year. Leo Pelzel and Tom Cummings were awarded Knight of the Year and Family of the Year respectively. Their ethical conduct and constant performance within the goals of the Knights of Columbus are an asset to Council 7282. They both display a humble and virtuous posture while going about their normal but very important activities. They do bring to life the message of our founder, Father Michael J. McGivney

Arguing with children can be risky In a grade school lesson, a teacher was explaining a little bit about whales. A little girl in class piped up and said: “I just learned that Jonah in the bible was swallowed by a whale.” The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was relatively small. The girl said: "I am sure Jonah was swallowed by a whale." The teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; that it was physically impossible. The little girl replied: "My Sunday school teacher told me Jonah was swallowed and she would not lie to me.” A bit perturbed by this, the teacher proclaimed: "That is a “story” from the bible, it is not factual, and I will not argue with you." After a little thought, the girl responded: "Well, when I get to heaven, I will ask Jonah". Now challenged, the teacher spouted: "What if Jonah didn’t go to heaven?" Not at all daunted, the girl quipped, " . . . . . ok then you ask him."
