# RESPONSES DATE

1 I don’t like that there is only one swing, and I don’t like that the play area is reduced. I do likethat the 2-5 year-old play area is further from the street because I think it will be easier to keepmy toddler from running into traffic.

11/1/2020 6:44 PM

2 Dislike that there is only 1 swing. Park entry points seem well thought out. 10/27/2020 10:21 PM

3 The sloped connection is unique and I would like to see it incorporated. 10/26/2020 6:14 PM

4 I prefer the central seating location in option b. 10/25/2020 6:23 PM

5 This is the best design because it will help parents keep little kids away from the streets. 10/25/2020 9:54 AM

6 Not my preferred option 10/24/2020 9:09 PM

7 This is the best design for public safety after park closing hours when teens and adults use theswings and merry-go-round late into the night—best to keep those playthings as close to thestreet as possible.

10/24/2020 2:15 PM

8 The two things I value are expanding the play equipment and putting them under shadewherever possible. Option B seems to do these things more.

10/24/2020 12:53 PM

9 This seems like the best of the three options. The youngest kids are away from traffic andfrom the swings, and there is a clear separate seating area in addition to small areas to sit towatch the kids. I really like the new connection between the playground and the grassy area, and I can picture my kid (and I) loving it!

10/24/2020 9:43 AM

10 I like the plan for a sloped connection that makes the playground more connected with the restof the park

10/23/2020 9:00 PM

11 Needs better access from 21st Ave and 2-5 yr olds at the back...? 10/23/2020 5:51 PM

12 It has the least pathways (great thing) and smallest children are furthest away from the street(great thing).

10/23/2020 4:28 PM

13 Meh 10/23/2020 9:37 AM

14 Enjoy 10/22/2020 12:14 PM

15 Would prefer more traditional swings 10/21/2020 9:54 PM

16 I work at the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County -Rotary Branch, we are on 19th and E. SpruceSt. We are excited that the park is getting a renovation! Will the drinking fountain stay and willit get some bathrooms?

10/21/2020 10:41 AM

17 Maybe add a safety gate with the 2-5 years old 10/21/2020 9:49 AM

18 The overgrown alley and current encampments just east of the park make it too creepy for meto imagine going there with my kid. The lack of feeling safe is what keeps me away, not thecurrent play equipment or configuration.

10/20/2020 9:35 PM

19 When my family uses the park, we are typically not the only group present. This singulargathering/seating area would not be our first choice. We'd prefer more smaller group seatingspread throughout the play areas.

10/20/2020 8:18 PM

20 I want seating to be near the play areas so i can sit and watch my kids 10/20/2020 7:03 PM

21 I don’t like that the 2-5 yr old play area is pushed to the side like it is currently. Because not asmany 2-5 year olds go to the park that play area can feel secluded and tends to be wherehomeless individuals go to smoke and relieve themselves. If that area were used by older kidsit would never feel “abandoned” and the homeless would be less inclined to spend time in thatpart of the park.

10/20/2020 2:40 PM

22 I like that existing trees remain 10/20/2020 12:16 PM

23 This has the small kid area furthest from the street for best safety. 10/20/2020 12:09 PM

24 Love natural play areas! But PLEASE don’t lose Clifford!!! 10/20/2020 11:40 AM

25 We would like to replace the play chips to fall cushions. It's better for falling onto than playchips. A lot of times play chips need replacement more often than foam cushion.

26 I dislike this layout because of the pathways in from the corner of the street. I like having morepathways into the play areas.

10/19/2020 9:50 PM

27 While I like the idea of pulling away from the street, the play area feels small as-is 10/19/2020 9:31 PM

28 Why build a park that will be filled with homeless and campground for protesters? 10/19/2020 8:11 PM

29 Smaller ply area not good. Like that keeps trees 10/19/2020 6:08 PM

30 Where is the big spinning merry-go-round type toy? 10/19/2020 4:15 PM

31 Accessible pathways are impirtant 10/19/2020 4:07 PM

32 I don’t like the separation of the swing area from the small children’s play area. I’d like it to bea little closer.

10/19/2020 2:19 PM

33 I'm having a hard time seeing how this design is any different from the current layout. 10/19/2020 1:06 PM

34 I like the slope connection in this scenario a lot, and I hope it can be included in all futureoptions. The current ledge is a barrier and it serves no function.

10/19/2020 12:50 PM

35 I like the slope & connection to the larger lawn, as that currently feels disconnected. I like thatthe toddler play zone is off in it's own corner, away from the bigger kids. I don't like that there'snot seating shown near the toddler play zone, unless that's there on the south side?

10/19/2020 12:45 PM

36 All three designs don't have adequate sitting areas for adults, (1) who might beaccompanying/watching/observing children playing on the equipment, (2) adults withoutchildren just wanting to sit in public park space to rest, be outdoors, or read or snack at picnictables, or (3) disabled adults who might have/need special mobility equipment (wheelchairs andwalkers and canes). The neighborhood, especially over in the Yesler corridor, has many older(and elder) residents. More seating areas and another 2 tables should be a top priority in thedesign. Also, millenials who are walking dogs, taking a break outside, spend time sitting onpark benches while checking their cell phones (behavior observed in other CD neighborhoodparks). How about putting in additional seating on the slope above the play area, so everythingis not all jammed up together? While it's possible that each of these designs has additionalbenches, seating spaces, each of the drawings does not depict these spaces clearly. Foroption B, for example, where is the "floating deck" in the diagram? For option A, where in thesketch are the picnic tables and garbage cans in the lower righthand picture? Location ofseating, picnic tables is a key component in this park re-design which needs to be expanded --or shown more clearly. (Sorry I'm not available to attend the pop-up this Sat. so I can talk withthe designers in person, and get a better idea of the seating areas in each proposed design.

10/19/2020 11:14 AM

37 I think it is irresponsible to renovate this play area when people are living in many parks intents. This area should be developed now for housing for homeless people, as should much ofCal Anderson park and other parks. You could start with Tiny Houses and then build up to 5story building. This housing need is desperate and to ignore it is heartless and short sighted. What is happening in Cal demonstrates that if it’s not built, people will come and build on itthemselves. I would prefer that the city do it.

10/19/2020 11:03 AM

38 My kids love to play on rocks and logs! 10/18/2020 9:07 PM

39 It is impractical. What about immediate covered pavilion/shelter for a picnic table? It rains fromSept to June.

# RESPONSES DATE

1 I like that the seating area is shaded. I don’t like that there are fewer swing sets than in thecurrent configuration.

11/1/2020 6:47 PM

2 Seating appears to be in full sun. Seating in partially shaded areas a better. Adding a low wallat the south of the 2-5 and 5-12 yo play area would help in creating safety barrier betweenstreet and play area. I could imagine this low wall as a "balance beam" play element.

10/27/2020 10:26 PM

3 Best design! I love having the two play structures together so I can see all my kids. Also lovewhere the seating area would be placed—again can see field and play structures. Love thisdesign!

10/27/2020 1:16 PM

4 Option b feels best for central seating options, especially for households like mine withchildren in different age groups.

10/25/2020 6:24 PM

5 There seems to be too many paths/routes in this design that look unnecessary. 10/25/2020 2:11 PM

6 My preferred option 10/24/2020 9:09 PM

7 Don't put the merry-go-round back near bushes and trees and adjacent properties—keep it outin the open for public safety.

10/24/2020 2:16 PM

8 I like the idea of shaded seating overlooking the open area. This option also seems to haveone additional play area compared with options A and C, and the more play areas the better.

10/24/2020 12:55 PM

9 The youngest kids closest to the intersection? Seems problematic. 10/24/2020 9:45 AM

10 I dont like the idea of reducing the play area size. I think the play area for the youngestchildren should remain farthest from the street as it currently is because these are the childrenmost at risk of running into the street without looking for traffic

10/23/2020 9:02 PM

11 This layout makes sense to me. The younger ones up front and side by side. Young onescloser to the swings. The path options are good.

10/23/2020 5:53 PM

12 swings shouldn't be near the street. 10/23/2020 5:34 PM

13 Too many pathways and areas for youngest children are too close to the street. 10/23/2020 4:30 PM

14 This pathway design makes the most sense (with the exception of the curved path in the lowerright corner— make it a more direct route for those walking the neighborhood! People like tomove in efficient ways, not like designers like them to).

10/23/2020 9:40 AM

15 Prefer B 10/22/2020 7:21 PM

16 My toddler loves the swings, I prefer option B so the swings are closer for 2-5 year old kids toreach

10/22/2020 1:31 PM

17 Good arrangement of seating for parents to monitor children easily 10/22/2020 10:11 AM

18 I worry kids will be able to go underneath a deck and it will be gross (and full of garbage)underneath.

10/22/2020 8:38 AM

19 Favorite of the three options 10/21/2020 11:26 AM

20 Add safety gates for you get years and public restrooms 10/21/2020 9:51 AM

21 You should have more seating. 10/21/2020 9:15 AM

22 The division between the age groups is confusing. The little kids and big kids start out dividedfor play, but then there is also a section for all ages. It's awkward to have the littles traversingback and forth through/around the big kid zone. Also, the disabled access seems a bit limitedor perhaps it's just not a fluid as Option A.

10/20/2020 8:37 PM

23 Because not as many 2-5 year olds go to the park that play area can feel secluded and tendsto be where homeless individuals go to smoke and relieve themselves. If that area were usedby older kids it would never feel “abandoned” and the homeless would be less inclined to spendtime in that part of the park.

10/20/2020 2:41 PM

26 I like all the pathways and I like how big the picnic area is. 10/19/2020 9:50 PM

27 Excellent design! I appreciate the proximity of seating to 2-5 play area and location undertrees.

10/19/2020 8:39 PM

28 This option will also be filled with homeless and protesters so the community won't be able touse it.

10/19/2020 8:12 PM

29 Is there adequate shade for the littlest kids? 10/19/2020 4:17 PM

30 I don't like the toddler area being so integrated with the larger kid's play zones.swings/toddler/big kids/all ages is very integrated, which will likely lead to the toddler zonebeing used by bigger kids, which can be intimidating for the smaller kids.

10/19/2020 12:49 PM

31 If I am understanding the added seating areas location correctly in this proposal, including thefloating deck, this design is better than A because it will allow for more multi-age seatingconfigurations, including shaded under one of the trees. Consider multi-ages for use of thispark, because there are many of us retirees/seniors who live in the CD in addition to manyyounger families and millennials who are not parents. Seating is and needs to be a priority forpark use.

10/19/2020 11:14 AM

32 Again, housing first. Thank you. 10/19/2020 11:04 AM

33 Love the shade trees 10/18/2020 9:08 PM

34 Less worse than “ A” But not good Site lines are important to manage kids and containment isimportant to manage kids and shelter is crucial given our weather. You need to ask actualparents how to do this. Parents with a stroller and a couple of different aged hungry crankykids what make a playground/park workable. It’s basic common sense.

# RESPONSES DATE

1 I like that there are four swings, and that there is seating near each play area. I like that theSE connection is removed which creates a large play area where children are separated fromtraffic. I like that the play area is the same size as the existing park.

11/1/2020 6:50 PM

2 The toddlers are too close to the busy street in this design. It’s a safety issue. 11/1/2020 4:04 PM

3 This is by far the best option! 10/29/2020 7:27 PM

4 I enjoy how the play areas have been merged together to make it seem like one bigger area. This park is not very big so I don't think it's too much of an issue to eliminate one of the entrypoints.

10/27/2020 10:28 PM

5 We will use any seating/gathering area but prefer option B for the seating in the middle of thepark and field and having the play structures together.

10/27/2020 1:19 PM

6 I love the plaza! 10/26/2020 6:15 PM

7 The lack of connection to Fir St. doesn’t make sense 10/25/2020 2:12 PM

8 The little kid area is closest to the street in this design, which would make it difficult to keepactive little kids safe

10/25/2020 9:57 AM

9 Second fave 10/24/2020 9:09 PM

10 Don't put youngest-children's play area nearest the street. Don't put swings and merry-go-roundnearest adjacent properties—keep them nearest the street to most easily monitor illegal after-hours activities in the park.

10/24/2020 2:18 PM

11 Seating is not central like with option B. Central seating is nice so I can stay in one place whilethe kids run around everywhere. Also not sure if this or option b has more play area.

10/24/2020 12:56 PM

12 Youngest kids too close to the street. Noisiest play equipment too close to adjacent residentialneighbors

10/24/2020 9:47 AM

13 Seems very non optimal to have the youngest children against the busiest street. 10/24/2020 9:40 AM

14 I like that this creates a large play space. My biggest concern is having the youngest childrenso close to 21st ave which some cars drive very quickly along. If this option is selected Iwould want the parks department to some large plantings or other barrier between the 2-5yrplay area and 21st ave to strongly deter any small children from running towards 21st street.

10/23/2020 9:09 PM

15 Doesn't flow for me. 10/23/2020 5:54 PM

16 Didn't use the slope as much as possible 10/23/2020 5:35 PM

17 I like this best 10/23/2020 4:43 PM

18 Too many pathways and the areas for the youngest children are too close to the street andtraffic.

10/23/2020 4:31 PM

19 I like that none of the play area is lost. The layout is flexible and provides the seating foradults to supervise. Top Choice.

10/23/2020 1:29 PM

20 This version is not friendly to the neighborhood! It's closed off to pass-through users. Definitelydo not like.

10/23/2020 9:41 AM

21 This is our preferred design. 10/21/2020 8:51 PM

22 I like where the seated area is because you can see the whole playground. Useful for parentswho want to let kids play but keep an eye out for them.

10/21/2020 9:50 AM

23 Better to not lose that SE connection- ppl will come in that way anyway 10/20/2020 10:43 PM

24 This is our family favorite. We like that there are additional swings, greater play space, multipleseating areas, and the nice flow of the accessible path. Thank you for saving the existingtrees! Now if only this option had the "sloped path" from Option A.

10/20/2020 8:44 PM

25 Seating area seems small and near road 10/20/2020 7:33 PM

26 I would like option three that keeps the swings and the whirl! 10/20/2020 4:54 PM

Page 18: juegos par a los gr upos designados ( de 2 a 5 años y de 5 a 12 … · 2020. 11. 6. · 11. 43% 16 2. 14% 3 Q 1 ( E nglish) : I like t he play ar ea ar r angem ent f or t he designat

27 Compared with the other 2 I think this one offers better features. 10/20/2020 4:16 PM

28 This park could be so much better 10/20/2020 4:00 PM

29 I love this plan. My toddler would really enjoy this park 10/20/2020 2:42 PM

30 I like this layout but am concerned with the small kid play area being near the street corner 10/20/2020 12:12 PM

31 I don’t like losing a pathway 10/20/2020 11:41 AM

32 Foam cushion rather than play chips. 10/20/2020 9:52 AM

33 I think it’s best to not put a 2-5 year old playground closest to the street 10/20/2020 6:30 AM

34 I like all the pathways, but the picnic areas are smaller. 10/19/2020 9:51 PM

35 2-5 year old play area should be set further away from street 10/19/2020 9:33 PM

36 All options will invite the homeless and drug sales. 10/19/2020 8:12 PM

37 Nice layout 10/19/2020 6:10 PM

38 Like this best 10/19/2020 3:07 PM

39 Gathering space on the corner makes alot of sense to draw people into the park. The 2-5playground may be too close to the street though. Bringing in some more natural elementsfrom opt.A might soften the edges on this option

10/19/2020 3:04 PM

40 If this option included the slope connection from #1, this would be by far the best option. 10/19/2020 12:52 PM

41 I don't love the loss of the SE path, but it's not a big deal. I don't like the toddler play areabeing closer to the streets.

10/19/2020 12:50 PM

42 I like the seating area in the center as parent so I can see where my kid is wherever they are. 10/19/2020 11:57 AM

43 Option C, with less space dedicated to pathway, and more space to flexible play areas andadditional seating (and, I hope, another picnic table or two plus garbage) is the top plan. Givespriority to more flexible, less divided play spaces, puts the youngest kids at the corner withmore adult seating for adults supervising younger kids -- but I can't tell if the picnic table underthe beautiful shade tree is lost in this option, along with the floating deck? That is a terrificseating area feature of Option B and should be incorporated into C. Don't underestimate thevalue of seating on benches, concrete walls, and picnic tables for multi-ages and multi-purposeseating. Most of Seattle Parks in the Central District have TOO FEW picnic tables andbenches for seating, not enough for the folks who are walking/riding through and want to sitdown and take a break, watch the kids playing, or have a drink of water and a snack. Thinkabout multi-age use of parks, encouraging elders and especially those living in apartments, toget out, do daily walks and take a break in the nice parks in the neighborhood.

10/19/2020 11:14 AM

44 The entire play area could become a large complex for homeless families. Or you could buildon the green area and save the play area for use of the newly housed families and localresidents.

10/19/2020 11:05 AM

45 too big for this small park, the more minimal/natural 1st design fits the area best and givesmore free playing opportunity

10/19/2020 9:17 AM

46 I hate those whirls - they provide so much fraught tension as a parent. Different age kids willgo at them and they are just the source of so many unnecessary injuries. They also are highdemand supervision items. And in the age of cell phones with parents/babysitters looking downat a screen, not at thier kids - it is an awful mess. Put in better choices. Like a fixed digger, ormore jungle jim equipment.

14 Art that tells the story of the Central District. Pratt Park does a nice job of this, and I think it'simportant to keep as many stories of our community's past alive.

10/26/2020 6:17 PM

15 It would be nice to have a wall of art but no sculptures as open space is very limited and baddesign was done at Pratt park that split the small field on half by sticking the restrooms inmiddle instead of back to side. It needs to be light and bright not dark. On the wall. The Pan-African art themes should also include some art reflecting theJewish heritage of the Central District, where large numbers of Sephardic Jewish immigrants(c. 1910-1950's) lived (segregated like African Americans after them) before the large AfricanAMerican migration to Seattle of the 1940's WW II years and the 50's and 60's. The large brickbuilding at 20th Ave. & Spruce, 1 block west of the park, was the Herzl Congregation, one ofthe Jewish synagogues in the CD. (Langston Hughes was also a large Jewish synagogue, along with the building on Cherry Street 1 block east of Nova School -- which was a Muslimschool in recent decades.) The Jewish heritage of the CD gets lost in all the historicalemphasis on the African American community which followed, where blacks in Seattle weresegregated for decades. It would be nice to see some small art pieces in the CD reflectingearlier ethnic heritage of this part of our central city.

52 Please see my last answer which details the earlier history of Jewish immigration communityin the Central District, before it became the center of Seattle's African American community --by illegal segregation. The CD has ALWAYS been (from late 19th C. to c. 1990) a segregatedarea for minority communities of color and immigrant communities. Most recently, we seemany CD businesses -- formerly run and owned by African Americans, run by Ethiopianimmigrants. It's a real urban melting pot in our predominantly white city.
