WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY?

Page 5: Judilyn cabag

• Educational Technology is a ‘’complex, integrated process involving people, procedures, ideas, devices and organization for analyzing problems and devising, implementing, evaluating and managing solutions to those problems involve in all aspects of human learning.” (Association for Educational Communications and Technology, 1977. The definition of educational technology. A summary, in the definition of educational technology.

• Educational Technology “consists of the designs and environments that engage learners and reliable techniques or method for engaging learning such as cognitive learning strategies and critical thinking skills

Page 6: Judilyn cabag

• Educational Technology is a theory about how problems in human learning are indentified and solved. As a theory, educational technology has an integrated set of principles that explain and predict observed events.

• Educational Technology is a field involved in applying a complex, integrated process to analyze and solve problems in human learning.

Page 7: Judilyn cabag

• Educational Technology is a field study which is concerned with the practice of using educational methods and resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating the learning process . As a field, it operated within the total field of education.

• Educational technology is a profession like teaching. It is made up of organized effort to implement the theory, intellectual technique and practical application of educational technology.

TECHNOLOGY

TRADITIONAL WAY• i.e as delivery vehicles for instructional

lessons.CONSTRUCTIVIST WAY• i.e as partner in the learning process.

Page 10: Judilyn cabag

TRADITIONAL WAY

• The learner learns from the technology and the technology serves as a TEACHER.

Page 11: Judilyn cabag

CONSTRUCTIVIST WAY

Technology serves as a PARTNER IN LEARNING.

Page 12: Judilyn cabag

TRADITIONAL

Technology serves as source and presenter of knowledge.

It is assumed that “knowledge is embedded in the technology and the technology presents that knowledge to a students”.

Technology like computers is seen as productivity tool.

Page 13: Judilyn cabag

CONSTRUCTIVIST

Educational technology serves as learning tools to learn with.

It engages learners in active, constructive, intentional, authentic and cooperative learning.

It provides opportunities for technology and learner interaction for meaningful learning.

ROLES OF TECHNOLOGY IN LEARNING

Page 15: Judilyn cabag

1 Technology as tools to support knowledge construction:

• For representing learner’s ideas, understanding, and beliefs

• For producing organized, multimedia knowledge bases by learners

Page 16: Judilyn cabag

2 Technology as information vehicles for exploring knowledge to support learning-by-constructing:• For accessing needed

information• For comparing

perspectives, beliefs and world views

Page 17: Judilyn cabag

3 Technology as context to support learning-by-doing:

• For representing and simulating meaningful real-world problems, situations and context

• For representing beliefs, perspectives, arguments and stories of others

• For defining a safe, controllable problem space for student thinking

Page 18: Judilyn cabag

4 Technology as a social medium to support learning by conversing:

• For collaborating with others

• For discussing, arguing and building consensus among members of a community

• For supporting discourse among knowledge-building communities

Page 19: Judilyn cabag

5 Technology as intellectual partner to support learning-by-reflecting:

• For helping what learners to articulate and represent what they know

• For reflecting on what they have learned and how they came to know it

• For supporting learners internal negotiations and meaning making

• For constructing personal representations of meaning

• For supporting mindful thinking

Page 20: Judilyn cabag

When used effectively, research indicates that technology:

1. Augments motivation to learn; 2. Encourages collaborative learning;3. Supports the development of critical

thinking skills; and4. Supports the development of problem

solving skills

Learning in Educational Technology 1 (SUMMARY)

Educational Technology teach us to be aware of the existence of technology on development, to appreciate the values of learning teaching process. And to be equipped with knowledge and skills. To make history about technology had started as an “abacus” was the first noted technology used long before modern technology started. How the roles of Educational Technology in the 21st millennium affect us. It also discuss about the dingers with technology brings in the society. And how was application of technology learning being realized.

Learning in Educational Technology 2 (SUMMARY)

• Orient the learner’s with the things and the process of the use of the product.

• Familiarize on ET’s use• Uplift the learners.• Impact skills.• Acquaint learners.• Introduce the other types of technology media and

put it in instruction.

A STUDENT AFTER ED.TECH.

Students are introduced to new ideas, develop new skills, and expand their perspectives. The informed use of technology can engage students in new experiences

and create a community of learners across geographical boundaries.

Students develop creative thinking and other essential skills. Technology enhance reading instruction by allowing

students to have access to text to speech, or highlighting, or underlining, or the ability to use a virtual dictionary where they can look up a word on the spot and have

access to that definition to help them move forward in their reading.
