“SHOUT OUT” to the Terminal Shops
NEW EMPLOYEE
Welcome Tyler
Blackstad to the
New Ulm Mechanic
team on May 18th.
He completed the
St. Cloud Diesel
Mechanic program at
St. Cloud Tech.
Shop appreciation day was a success! We hope the shop personnel know they are appreciat-
ed and needed to make J&R Schugel a success.
Brad Hunt, OH ESOP team, sends a big THANK
YOU to the team for all your hard work to help plan
the event. We also want to thank the vendors and
businesses that donated to the event such as:
The New Ulm Paving Project
is complete! New asphalt is laid and all strip-
ing is complete. We ask that all
trailers are dropped with dolly
pads on the cement slabs to pre-
vent pads from sinking into fresh
asphalt. Also would ask all driv-
ers to avoid tight turns to prevent
damage until asphalt is com-
pletely cured. NU shop has been
doing a great job keeping an eye
on things and answering all ques-
tions you may have related to
parking. Thank you all for your
patience throughout this project!
SAFETY SNIPPETS
Electronic Logging Lessons: “Kicked Off Property”
When you are at a shipper and they are done with you but they will not
allow you to stay on the property—AND—you are out of hours--what do
you do? The only thing you can do---get off their property. The key is, you
must get yourself to the nearest safe/legal place to park and finish out your
break until you get hours back. This is not designed for you to travel 50 or
100 miles down the road to “THE” truck stop that you want to be parked
at. It is designed to simply allow you to get off that customers property to a
nearby safe/legal place. Do your homework ahead of time. Find out if that
customer will allow you to stay and research your options before they ask
you to leave.
The proper procedure is:
Log out of the QUALCOMM
Drive to your safe/legal location
Log back in
Put your status to sleeper or off-duty (whichever is the case)
and attach the note that says “kicked off property”.
Keep in mind, you cannot advance yourself on a load—so going to your
next stop is not an option. Better to go a few miles in another direction to sit
and finish out that break. As always---call safety if you have any HOS/
logging questions.

Top Things to Do to Improve Fuel Economy
CONTINUED: Expected Winter Average MPG on each truck is above 7.3….
Expected summer months Average MPG on each truck is 7.75.
Many of our drivers achieve 8.0 MPG’s to 9.3 MPG’s.
11. Complete a proper and thorough pre-trip. Keep JRS aware of
any maintenance related issues that may be affecting the MPG
of your truck.
12. Use your In Cab Scanner to send in your trip paperwork. Re-
duce using your HOS and Fuel to send in load paperwork
13. Slide the tandems to center the load in order to reduce fuel
consumption.
14. Use trailer tails on trailer equipped when driving faster than 35
mph.
15. Remove the winter front when ambient temperatures are above
25 degrees.
16. Keep/maintain clean filters.
17. Make sure PM’s are completed timely.
18. Avoid “drag” with extra accessories and antenna’s.
19. Look at wind speed and direction if/when possible plan to
drive when wind speeds reduce or when it is a tail wind in-
stead of head wind or crosswind.
20. Less is more. Avoid transporting extra items in the cab/bunk
to reduce the weight of the truck.

GET TO KNOW Our Drivers
REFRIGERATED:
We have had an exciting month here on
the refrigerated side. We rolled out the
new Kraft award and are starting to see
the freight coming in. We had a great
month with driver miles and we expect
June to be even better. Driver Utilization
is on the top of our list to improve your
miles so please continue to communicate
with your fleet manager if you anticipate
delays or early load arrivals. Congratula-
tions to the May Fuel MPG winners!
Drivers pay attention to what they are
doing on the road, to make more profit.
Being an ESOP, we look at the day-to -
day operations that make this happen;
and each of you is a part of this equation.
Communication is key, if you are in
New Ulm please stop and say “Hi”.
Please utilize your qual-comm as much
as possible. Nightd is here for you when
there are emergencies or if you have a
problem. Contact your Fleet Manager
during business hours for all other ques-
tions. COMMUNICATION + TEAMWORK
+ ESOP = SUCCESS
our way to reducing out-of-route miles from
10% to an acceptable and reasonable 5% in
just a few short months. So be proud of
your efforts, because I sure am.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!
Stephanie Goblirsh, born and raised in New
Ulm, has joined J&R
Schugel as a Customer
Service representative
supporting the Dry Van
Wisconsin divis ion.
Stephanie along with her
husband, Brian, six years old son, Logan,
and four year old daughter, Brenna have a
busy life style. Brian works at SouthPoint
Federal Credit Union and on his free time
plays softball. Stephanie says “As a mom,
life is full of family activities we are con-
stantly running it seems.” Stephanie at-
tends school full-time as well as working
full-time. Her goal by the end of this sum-
mer is to obtain her Bachelors in Market-
ing. Between activities and school Stepha-
nie likes to read, loves photography, and
spending time with friends and family.
They are animal lovers, and have a dog
named Pluto and a cat Chloe.
DRY VAN: Thanks to you and your brother and
sister drivers, America has clothes to
wear, food to eat, and medicine to take.
In fact, almost everything we use in our
daily lives is delivered by professional
drivers. Families depend on you to
deliver life’s essentials safely and effi-
ciently, and we all count on your pro-
fessional choices in dangerous situa-
tions to ensure everyone makes it home
safe and sound… most especially you.
I’d also like to acknowledge the
many drivers who are actively using
their Navigo for door-to-door, truck-
friendly routing to reduce unreimbursed
out-of-route miles. Drivers are paid for
deadhead and loaded miles, but nobody
gets paid going out-of-route.
Baseline out-of-route mileage in
March was over 10% fleet-wide.
Thanks to everyone’s efforts in using
your onboard Navigo routing, our out-
of-route in April was reduced roughly
100,000 miles. The preliminary data
for May could yield astonishing addi-
tional savings company-wide, which is
very important for each of us as an
ESOP/owner: Each unreimbursed out-
of-route mile costs our company $0.60.
Thanks to your efforts, we are well on
James Daye. James is an Owner
Operator (489) who has
been with J&R Schugel
since February 2015,
his best friend and
wife, Sandra of five
years accompanies his
trips. He is on the road
driving for 30+ days so
when he is home, he enjoys spending time with
all 10 of his grandkids and putting a good steak
on the grill. James said there are a lot of good
people at J&R Schugel, he may not know them
by name, but knows people by truck number
and facebook. When James was asked what
message he would like to share with other driv-
ers he said “Be safe & take your time. I want
everyone to go home to be with your family.”

Bryan Canada. Bryan is a great member of our team. As an Independent
Contractor (532), Bryan joined J&R Schugel in 2004 and will be celebrating
32 years in the trucking industry. We asked Bryan why he chose J&R
Schugel, he said “They were the only one who would take the chance on me at
the time with my past record at the time. I needed some where to prove myself
and Schugel gave me the chance.” Bryan enjoys driving because he gets to
see the sights, cultures of the country, see how different parts of the country
and personalities are. He drives with the mindset that he is a tourist. As a val-
ued member of the team, he offers suggestions
routinely to enhance the company and engage
the drivers. It was Bryan’s suggestion that for-
malized the Driver Mentor program featured in
the May Newsletter. Driver Mentors offer new
drivers with J&R a drivers perspective and help
them during their first few weeks with the com-
pany. It has been a great experience and well
received by drivers. After 32 years in the profes-
sion, what message could Bryan share with other
driver, “We are all human, we all makes mistake
and are all supposed to be in this together. Fel-
low drivers, office personnel, parents we need
each other. We are a team.”
Thank you Bryan for all you do!
KUDOS & Compliments
Page 4
KUDOS to YOU
James Daye (489) was observed driv-
ing very professionally and safely in the
Atlanta heavy traffic today, as called in
by a motorist. He was driving at safe
speeds and allowing other motorist to
pass and change lanes around him with a
safe approach. Thanks James for all
you do out there!
Kelvin Fischer Update: Many have been asking for an
update on our trailer mechanic Kelvin. Judy, Kelvin’s wife
updates Kelvin’s CaringBridge page faithfully and asked that
we share with his J&R Schugel family the following:
We have great news to share with all; Kelvin was trans-
ferred to Red Wing Healthcare 5/15/2015 for their brain injury
rehab program. This is a big step and the last leg on our jour-
ney home. We have had great care here at Bethesda for the
last 8 weeks. Danielle & Judy were able to tour Red Wing
Healthcare & felt it would be a great fit for Kelvin, they have state of the art speech,
physical, occupational & recreational therapy. Kelvin’s goal is to be home for his
daughter’s wedding in July.”
A few facts about Kelvin: a few weeks ago he was running his hand down the back of
his head, he stopped & looked at me "Who cut my hair?". I took a deep breath before
explaining why there was a need to shave his head. He took the news pretty good...
Kelvin has always been a walker, especially when under stress. Many of his aides have
been wearing pedometers when caring for him. Saturday morning he wore out one aide
who requested a sitting position to take a break, Kelvin had walked 5 miles of 2 short
hallways. He has also been known to do 2.5 in 45 minutes.
Again, we thank all for the prayers, love & support. We are constantly reminded of how
long this marathon may take but with your support it has given us the strength to keep
going. ~ Judy & Family.

THE SALES LOOP We are putting the finishing touches on our 2015
pricing with many of our larger shippers. We typically
review our pricing and lanes annually. Obviously, the cost
to operate our fleet increases every day, however the fact
we provide good service and consistent capacity is also
recognized at the time of negotiating pricing.
Our customers are demanding, and so are theirs.
When we are in front of our customers, it reminds me how
good we have to be. How we talk to our customers, email
our customers, bill our customers, claim resolution, on-time
PU and DEL are equally important. It has been fun sharing
the J&R Schugel ESOP transition to our larger customers, I
leave them with this. “If you enjoy what we have done
the past 40 years, watch out for the next 40 years. Our
employees are the advantage we have over others”. Thank you all for what you do every day, more fun
things around the corner.
Developing an ownership culture is
an ongoing process that evolves over
time. This article will review the vari-
ous roles each plays within the pro-
cess to strengthen the culture.
Plan Participant or employee
owners get the benefits from the
ESOP Trust. Employees become plan
participants after meeting the eligibil-
ity requirements. Taking a vested in-
terested in the company by sharing
new ideas and how to improve pro-
cesses increases the benefits of the
ESOP Trust. Though participants
don’t actually own stock directly;
each employee has an account that
holds a portion of what is in the trust.
As a plan participant it is your re-
sponsibility to be engaged in the own-
ership culture by ways of taking part
in company events, thinking like an
owner, working more efficiently, and
providing exceptional service to our
customers.
A strong ownership culture
can be driven by the Board of Direc-
tors. The board has many duties, in-
cluding care to act prudently, loyal-
ty to act in good faith and in the
best interest of the company, and of
obedience to remain faithful to
the purpose of the company.
Each ESOP employs a
Trustee which represents the partic-
ipants, The single shareholder is
the ESOP Trust. The Board is ac-
countable to the Trustee. The Trus-
tee reviews financial statements and
the independent stock appraisal an-
nual report for transaction purposes.
Our Leadership team is
responsible for the day-to-day oper-
ations of J&R Schugel. They make
management decisions on major
purchase, employment opportuni-
ties, facility enhancements, policy
review/changes/enhancements,
compensation and benefits,
product and technology.
Take and make opportuni-
ties to educate yourself on ESOP
and J&R Schugel
operations.

HEALTH & WELLNESS To all on our health insurance plan:
J&R Schugel is hosting biometrics screenings
onsite at JRSNU Tuesday June 23rd in prepa-
ration for 2015 Health Insurance Renewal.
Screenings are confidential and specific re-
sults will not be shared with the company, but
participating in a screening will offset part of
your health insurance premium increase.
The screenings will be set up in 5 minute in-
crements from 6am-10:00am. Remember you
will have to fast 9-12 hours prior to your
screening. I will start taking appointment times
in June.
