FIREFIGHTERS Ages 14-17. Jr. firefighters will obtain required training courses to include local fire schools, fire department training programs and online programs as applicable. A work permit must be obtained as required by state law. FIREFIGHTERS Ages 18 and older. Firefighters will obtain certified training to meet East Pennsboro Township requirements. Upon completion of the required training, firefighters will function as an integral member of fire, accident and disaster scenes. Firefighters may also train to become emergency vehicle drivers/ operators as well as training in specialized firefighting and rescue. SPECIAL FIRE POLICE Ages 18 and older. Volunteers are required to be a member of an East Pennsboro fire company. Fire Police are approved by the Township Commissioners and are sworn in by the local Magistrate. Fire Police duties include public safety as well as crowd control during emergency scenes and community events. SUPPORT PERSONNEL Ages 14 and older. Volunteers provide a host of non-emergency duties for the fire companies such as fundraisers and maintenance just to name a few. LIVE IN PROGRAMS Enola Fire Co. #3 and Northeast Fire and Rescue have live-in programs that are free of charge for volunteers attending an area college, university or trade school. Volunteers who do not attend an educational facility may also apply. East Pennsboro Fire Department consists of three volunteer fire companies within the township. Northeast Fire and Rescue, Enola Fire Co. #3 and Creekside Fire Company along with the East Pennsboro Special Fire Police. These organizations provide fire protection, rescue, natural disaster, emergency shelters, and fire prevention along with traffic and crowd control within the Township. Our volunteers are carpenters, plumbers, teachers, nurses, engineers, truck drivers, students, politicians, secretaries, business owners, ministers, police officers, clerks, welders, mechanics and retirees.
