Engaging with Democracy

The school campus was abuzz with the election fever through the month of June where it saw

the Indian Elections replicated, with the aspiring office bearers fervently campaigning for their

positions. Every class took turns to cast their votes in a secret electronic ballot. The students of

class VI, voting for the first time, were excited about choosing their leaders. All the candidates

were sitting on pins and needles to know who the winners would be.

Elections

The elections are on the way,

For us to vote on the big day.

Campaigning happens all the time,

At snacks and lunch, till the bell chimes.

You can see posters all over the class,

Catching our eyes as we pass.

Head girls, Head Boys and their assistants,

I am looking forward to my first elections.

- Chenchulaxmi S Suresh, Grade VI

‘The Political State of any ideal country will always be Democracy’.

Inspired by this thought, our school conducted this year’s Student Body Elections. It was met with zeal

and enthusiasm by all the classes. So it was no surprise when a large number of students opted to

participate in the election. We take pride in the fact that our election is unique simply because each and

every student is given the opportunity to contest, which is truly the epitome of democracy.

As candidates, it was a different experience altogether. There was obvious pressure due to the fierce

competition. Nevertheless, the excitement and adrenaline rush kept us motivated. To be honest, the two

weeks of vigorous campaigning had left us with frazzled nerves and mounting anxiety. We met with mixed

reactions, good, bad and confused while campaigning to our juniors. However, we took it all in our stride

and this just strengthened our resolve to win. Despite everything, we were glad that there always

remained a healthy and friendly spirit of competition amongst us.

A practical example of symbiosis was witnessed, when the teachers and students joined forces to organize

this success stay. From now onwards, all the teachers will be allowed to cast their votes. A special

mention must definitely be given to the 9th graders who have been the backbone of Hari Shree’s 2017-18

Student Council Elections.

P.S. We wish all the very best to the newly elected student body.

My Summer Holidays

Holidays mean fun times. So when it comes to a long break like summer holidays, it’s fun with more

ingredients like family, friends, extra TV time, play dates, junk, over sleep, travel and many other things,

especially laziness. So how was my vacation different?

First, I am going to start with a note of thanks to our beautiful country. I always thought travelling to US

or Europe was exciting until I took a very short trip to Munnar. Just two days, not much of shopping, less

activities, no exotic food... But the memories that I captured through the lens of my eyes were marvellous.

I was literally walking through the clouds... The chirping of the birds, the vibrant colours of the flowers

and the terrace farming filled me with wonder. The most unique experience was to see my shadow on the

mist when it was dark against the light from the balcony. It was a memorable, short and sweet holiday.

- Advika K, Grade V

The Grass is Greener on the other side......

When my exams got over and my last day at school was nearing, I was very happy that my holidays were

about to start. During my holidays, I went to Kodaikanal and when I returned, I was bored, lazy and had

started to get up late. All my schedules had gone topsy turvy! I found that I was energized, organized and

active on school days than during holidays. I started to miss my Acharyas, friends, PT sessions, Art

classes, library hours and yummy food at the dining hall. The reopening day was nearing.... on the first

day of school, I was very nervous because I was in a new environment with new Acharyas and friends. I

found the Acharyas kind and caring and I hope to make new friends in this environment too. I realized

that I longed for holidays on working days and was looking forward to the reopening on holidays. I

believe that’s human nature!!!
