    One Day since Arrival

The sun has just set upon our first day

within the new world. While the journey has beenlong and arduous, it now seems justified with this

view displayed in front of my eyes of unspoiled

natural beauty. It is almost a shame to witness it

tarnished as we construct our new homes and the

walls protecting them. Only almost though. I

would personally chop down every birch and oak

on this island to ensure that I will never again

spend a night within that floating rats nest.

Every night on onboard was filled with the

continuous creeks and moans of the most gentle of

movements. But tonight I hear only the gentle

breeze through the branches. My first real nights

sleep in the longest of whiles will be filled with of

the future and its potential.-Peter Parquagh

    One Month since Arrival

Today I saw the oddest individual today. He isntactually a settler, but crashed on the shore sometime after ourarrival. As such, not much is known about him but onlynumerous rumors. Peter Parquagh has claimed to know thathe is a black magician, and sold his soul to the devil in

exchange for dominion over a demon named Mephistopheles. This is obviously ridiculous, and I know Peter has a habit ofexaggerating the truth. And yet there is a very curiousnature to him. When at the store today I caught his eye, he

turned away in a bashful manner. This action took me by sucha level of surprise. This was a man whom half the town feared, but to me seamed so innocent. I secretly hope to run into himagain, as I have a newfound curiosity for the man that I justcannot explain.

It has been nearly a year since my

banishment to Roanoke Island. In this time I

have had several opportunities to explore notonly the town, but also the surrounding area.

In one such instance I came into contact

with the indigenous people of this island.

Despite being highly primitive, almost to the

point of savagery, they have an intriguing

art practice not unlike my own Enochian

craft. One young fellow in particular has

shown an extreme prowess. His name roughly

translates to Caliban Half-Fish. He is

apparently the son of Sycorax, the medicine

woman of the tribe. With some guidancetoward civility, he could grow to becoming a

    very promising mage.

    My Dearest John-

I wont pretend that what we had wasnt special to me. Ican still feel the warm breeze of your breath passing through

your hair. I will truly never forget you, though that seemsfairly self-evident as of late. But I am a married woman, and

the daughter of a Governor. As such I must fulfill certain

expectations of behavior. For this reason I cannot allow you to be a part of her

life. Her names Virginia, after our Queen. I t wasAnanias choosing. I am so sorry, as I know you will always

love her. But she deserves a chance at a normal life, with ahappy family, and this is the only way I can give her that.Im sure youll understand, as you always did. And perhapsone day youll find the power to forgive me.

    -Forever thinking of you, Eleanor

I have realized the sheer power thatmy angel Madini is in possession of. At

the moment there is no reason for this tobe any cause of concern, but this may

not always continues to be the case. That

is why I am designing as spell to work

against her, just in case I need it in the

    future.

Due to her nature, she is vulnerable

toward light that is fueled by magical

means. For this reason I have created a

series of devices that would create a cageof light, aimed by crystals found in the

depths of the island. Magically speaking,

the contraption is powered by a single

    spell-word of my own invention,

    CROATOAN.

It has been nearly a year since we settlers first set

foot upon this island. In that time we have produced

and maintained a secure and stable homestead. Thatalone is cause for celebration, but today is especially

wondrous for myself. My wife Eleanor has given birth

to our first child, a beautiful girl. Eleanor has agreed

to name her Virginia. It may seem clich, but there isa palpable regality to the small child. The small tuft of

hair of white gold forms a crown above her wise grin. I

will do my best to ensure that she has the life of a

    princess here.

I awoke today to find Virginia absent from

her bed and her coat missing as well. Eleanor was

completely distraught. She revealed to me thatVirginia would sometimes play in the native village

outside of town. I had no time to be livid at this news,

but only formed a search party to go look for her.

Thankfully Mr. Dee was familiar with the indigenouspeople and was able to lead us to them. This turned out

to be a complete waste of time. The only one of them

capable of speaking English was missing. They would

either completely ignore us, or act completely erratic at

our questions. One young man forcefully insisted upon

me taking a crude painting of a man hunting a doe.

Dee seemed to react to this, but it was clearly

meaningless. I was so distraught when I had to return

to Eleanor, crushing the hope that she had had when Ileft.

It was nearly a week before the men found Virginiasbody. I watched and waited, as they walked back into town

with solemn faces, Anansias carrying her limp frame, bloodall down the back of her dress. One could tell they were alldistraught. This town always loved her so much. Anansias

later told me one man in the search party openly wept at the

sight of her.We gave her a traditional burial out in the fields. I

wouldnt call it a graveyard. It never had that feel. Wevehad deaths before, but always natural, always expected.

Weve never had a murder before. I suppose itll feel like agraveyard now though.

A great tragedy has occurred. One that I amresponsible for. Magic may have been the hand

that held the blood drenched knife, but it was I

that brought that hand to this island. No amount

of good has been or ever will be accomplished to

out-way the evil I have caused. I will admit it is

possible Madini would have the power to undo this

awful act, but the risk is too great. There is no way

to tell that it wouldnt simply exacerbate the

problem. One death could become a hundred. Therisk is just too great.

Instead I am abandoning my craft, and

burying my grimoire, my book of the arts, deep

within the island, in my laboratory. I will return

to Britain. If Edward is waiting there for me, thenso be it. Then that is what God intends, and that is

the only power I will work with now.

Caliban, my apprentice, I am truly

disappointed in you. I cannot believe how

you have abused the skills I have allowed youaccess too and helped to train you in.

When I found her body I was completely

distraught, and I swore I would find whoever

was responsible. I then scoured the island for

evidence as to the identity of the culprit.Sadly I did just that. While you are

responsible, I am the one handed you the

tools. For this guilt by association, I must

take my leave. I pray that in my absence you

do not compound your mistakes any further.

    Master Dee-

I am sorry. I had to do this. You loved her too

though not as I did. I know what happened came ofme, and it brings much sadness upon me. But you

are powerful. You could have brought her back

easy. Instead you have left your home and buried

your book of the worlds secrets. You quit but I

    cannot.

I have taken the book and gone to Virginias

grave.I know Madini is power great enough to

bring her back. I am not having skill and I may

fail, but it is worth the risk. The world deservesher back. I need her back.

If you are reading this, I have failed again. Madini

is angered, and will purge the island of humans in

her wrath. To stop her just know thisBURN THE TREE, AND TRAP HER IN ITS

    LIGHT.

You are my last hope of undoing my mistakes

    Thank you
