QUESTION 2

How effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary tasks?

Page 3: Josie Bury Question Two

What we created

For the practical coursework production we had to create the main task, a relevant music video alongside the ancillary tasks which includes a digipack (album cover and inside panels) and an album advertisement.

• Music artists sell their music and their image to their target audience.

Therefore they are a product, a service which people will buy; a brand has been

attached to them.

BRAND IMAGE

• Every product has a brand and every brand has an identity be it a logo, colour scheme, font or a person.

Instantly recognisable logo’s or famous faces to create links to the product.

HOW DOES BRAND IMAGE WORK?

• Branding makes a product unique, something that stands out from all it’s competitors.

• As a brand expands their products they will use the same brand image or logo to make their consumers visually aware of that brand.

• Consistency is vital within a brand image, so the consumer is confident and loyal within purchasing or using their product.

• Elements such like the logo and colour schemes instantly inform the consumer that the product is part of that particular brand, this is a vital relation between producers and consumers.

HOW WE HAVE INCORPORATED A BRAND IMAGE

• As we have created an artist influenced by the Indie genre of music, we needed to create a relevant brand image so that they will appeal to the right audience of consumers.

• In order to create this brand image we researched current indie artists to understand the repetitive styles, colours and themes within their music products.

BRAND IMAGE IN A RELEVANT MUSIC INDUSTRY

• We focused on a brand image specifically for the indie genre as this was vital for the development of our media products.

• The main factors of brand image within indie bands are the latest trend setting styles that their consumers will notice, relate to and be inspired by. These factors are mainly based on the latest clothing trends and hair styles

• We looked at The Foals, to analyse and break down their brand identity.

INDIE GENRE – BRAND IMAGE

• The clothes that the band wear are seen as individual but yet common within their specified indie genre. Many of the band’s consumers will most likely wear similar style clothing, such like jeans, a shirt or t-shirt, floppy hair and maybe even a hat.

• The main convention is that they don’t focus on a glam appearance; they focus on the music that they produce.

Our interpretation of the indie genre brand image in our music video product

Creating a brand image

Front cover

Back cover

We have developed an element of brand image throughout our media products. Relating back at how logos and text can have a massive representation on a product to their consumer, we incorporated this in our products, influenced by an indie band.

Music video

We used thick white text in the opening and closing scenes of the music video and therefore created a repetition of this style in the album cover design and the advertisement for the album.

CREATING A BRAND IMAGE

We also heavily created references to nature basing the music video in the artists hometown of White Well, this influencing the artists name. The nature settings in the forests and stepping stones create a relaxed personality about the artist which reflects on the music that he produces – ‘Jewel’. This is a brand image that we have created for this artist. We believed this element of a natural green, brown and white colour scheme, basing music videos in the local outdoor woodlands, wearing clothing that the consumers will wear and be influenced by all bond to create a unique brand image for the artist White Well.

CONCLUSION

• I believe that my group has created media products that all link and all show a great brand image that their consumers will recognise and relate to.

• The album (digipack) showcases what the artists brand image is, this is reflected through the music video for ‘Jewel’ and this is clearly advertised on the advert, this is clever product advertisement as it shows the target audience they are going to get just what they expect and want.
