To My Dearest JoshuaI can't believe how fast the years have flown, it's

seems just yesterday when I met you for the first time. I hold dear in my heart the first time I held you, rubbed my lips against the top of your velvety head as your dark little hairs tickled my lips. I breathed you, loving your smell. I was completely captivated by the way you stretched your tiny fists above your head and yawned and how your face changed expressions while you slept. Often times I would softly tip-toe into your bedroom and watch you as you slept. I stood amazed at this perfect and precious little person God has blessed me with.

I have held your hand while you learned to walk and walked beside you as you learned to run and seek God’s will for your life. I remember the joy I felt when you were seven and you heeded God’s call and was saved. Now I see you growing up and I feel we have both grown up so very much.

Where did my blue-eyed baby go? How could it be that you are almost grown?

It was just yesterday that I held you in my arms, rocked you to sleep. It was just last week that you stood no taller than my belly now you tower over me and could carry me in your strong arms. I see you preparing for graduation and you look like a man, not a boy, in your cap and gown.

Is this real? It went by too soon, happened too fast.

I didn’t have enough time with you. I wasted too much of it, not understanding time would take you away from me so fast. Soon you will be facing the world on your own terms, and I might not be able to protect you from hard times or keep you safe.

I often wonder what God has in store for you and wonder if I prepared you enough for that path you are about to walk down. Countless times over count- less years, I have reflected on what kind of life you might have, what

wonderful things you would accomplish, and what kind of man you would be. Along the journey God has given me glimpses of the kind and compassionate man you are turning into.

Nothing fills me with more joy or pride than seeing the person you are becoming! My sweet son, I love you very much.

Always remember that the Lord has kept you and guided you along a path of endless opportunity. He has filled your mind with intelligence and your soul with wisdom. He has promised to be with you, strengthening you in every endeavor, leading you always in His way toward a future that is blessed. Put on God’s armor and keep your eyes on Him.

As your journey through life begins, choose your destinations well, but do not hurry there. Avoid the shortcuts, wander the back roads, and enjoy the scenery. Remember that the true worth of your travels lies not in the destination but in who you come to be along the way.

You have decided to attend college for a Music degree. I am honored that you want to use this gift from God to share God’s word with others.

Graduation is a bittersweet day as I am torn with what meaning it holds. A new stage for both of us! As you begin your transition from a teen to a young adult I find my heart heavy with both the joy of knowing you are becoming an adult and the sorrow of losing that innocence that I once held on to so dearly.

You have been a precious gift to me from God and I am so grateful to have you in my life, to be your mother. I love you with every fiber, every cell, and every breath I take.

Forever in my heart, Your MotherMay, 2010
