Why is this museum named the Chimczuk Museum?The Chimczuk Museum is named after Joseph Chimczuk, who died in 1990 generously leaving his estate to the City of Windsor. Joseph Chimczuk was born in1897 in Zadniszovka, Skalat, Poland (now Sadzhivka, Skalat, Ukraine). The area is also recognized as the Galicia area in Western Ukraine. He emigrated in February 1926, taking the S.S. Lithuania to Halifax. He briefly lived in Pointe Anne, Ontario before moving to Windsor in 1932. Joseph worked at the Ford Motor Company. A patron of the arts, he was one of the co-founders of the Ukrainian American Museum Library in Detroit. He wrote poetry and books on Ukrainian heritage, and also painted and sculpted. He was a member of St. Vladimir and Olga’s Ukrainian Catholic
