Successful First “Day In the Country” Event

This spring we kicked off a new fundraiser, “Day In the Country” and successfully raised over $26,000 for the Harrelson Center!

A “Day in the Country” was held at The Harrelson Family’s Genteel Plantation in Atkinson, N.C. Guests competed in corn hole, fishing, and skeet shooting tournaments. They also enjoyed Lewis Farm’s strawberry ice cream, Trolly Stop hot dogs, and a Parchie’s barbeque dinner. The day ended with awards, live music from 3 for A Dollar blue grass band, tastings of Trey Herring bour-bon, and a cigar station provided by Davis and Son Tobacconists.

Thirty seven companies sponsored the event including presenting sponsors Park Sterling Bank, Compass Pointe, and McKinley Building Corporation. For many, this fundraiser presented an opportunity to step out of the office into the fresh country air, network with other business leaders, and learn about the Harrelson Center.

Scott Pennington was referred to us through our partner Drug and DWI Rehabilitation program. We connected him to our business partner Riverside Dental Arts and he was able to have complete dental work performed. Pennington returned to the Harrelson Center the same day of his dental appointment with a fresh new smile and warm thankful heart.

Angel Outreach Ministry

The Angel Outreach Ministry allows The Harrelson Center to assist people whose

needs fall outside the scope of our partner organizations’ missions.

From January 2013 to June 2014 Angel

Outreach Ministry has assisted 54 individuals financially at a total of

$12,830. In addition to this financial

assistance, the Harrel-son Center has coun-

seled and referred over 100 others to our

community partners.

The angel outreach ministry assisted with the purchase of a new van to pro-vide Nicole’s family transportation to work, school, and community commit-ments. Pictured above is the family at their Habitat Home Dedica-tion Ceremony.

To the Precious Angels,

Thank you to the special “Angels” who have done so much for me during this time of economic difficulty. It takes a special group of people who show their Christian love and compassion to other people. Without your help and compassion, I would not have made it through this tough time in my life.Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know that God sent these “Angels” as a blessing to me and others who are struggling. I so appreciate your support and help.

***The Angel fund paid this fine lady’s monthly rent and car payment, and we con-nected her to Good Friends and First Baptist Church who paid her second month of bills. This assistance allowed her to stay afloat during a temporary job loss.

Meet Our Newest Partner: Health Connections

Network

Harrelson Center Board

Harrelson Center Staff

We’re excited to welcome a new partner to the Harrelson Center, Health Connec-tions Network, HCN.

Health Connections Network supports cancer patients and their families by con-necting people with resources, coordinating support systems, and providing advocacy education. They navigate people through the process and identify each client’s unique needs such as child care assistance, counseling, nutrition, and cancer treatment programs. HCN then connects individuals with these resources.

Lasonia Roberts-Melvin, HCN Board President, be-lieves that partnering with the Harrelson Center is a “great fit” for the organization’s mission. She said this partnership gives HCN the ability to provide and con-nect cancer patients with the resources they need. HCN has referred people to some of our partners previously including WARM and Philippians 3 Ministries.

“It’s all about making the health connections,” said Roberts- Melvin. To learn more about Health Connec-tions Network, visit their website: www.healthconnec-tionsnetwork.org.
