To analyze a topic and to persuadethe reader that this opinion is correctand supported by arguments

Generic StructureAn analytical exposition is a type of spoken or written text that

is intended to persuade the listeners or readers that something isthe case. To make the persuasion stronger, the speaker or writergives some arguments as the fundamental reasons whysomething is the case. This type of text can be found in scientific

books, journals, magazines, newspaper articles, academicspeech or lectures, research report etc.Analytical expositions are popular among science, academic

community and educated people. The generic structure of analytical exposition usually has three components:

(1)Thesis(2)Arguments(3)Reiteration or conclusion.

1. Thesis : Introduces the topic and shows speakeror writers position; Outlines of the argumentsare presented.

2. Arguments : It consists about Point andElaborationPoint , states the main argumentConclusion : Reiteration (restatement), restatesspeaker or writers position

3. Elaboration , develops and supports eachpoint of argument

Generic Features of Analytical Exposition

An analytical exposition focuses on generichuman and non human participants.It uses mental processes. It is used to statewhat the writer or speaker thinks or feelsabout something. For example: realize, feel etc.It uses emotive and evaluative wordsIt often needs material processes. It is used tostate what happens, e.g. .has polluted etc.

It usually uses Simple Present Tense andPresent Perfect Tense.Enumeration is sometimes necessary to showthe list of given arguments: Firstly, secondly ,Finally, etc

Example TextDANGER OF CIGARETTES

I personally think that cigarettes is the big killer in theworld. Why do I say that?

Firsltly, Ninety percent of lung cancers are caused bysmoking. If we smoke five cigarettes a day, we are six timesmore likely to die of lung cancer than a non smoker.

Secondly, children of smoker are more likely to developbronchitis and pneumonia. In one hour in smoky room, nonsmoker breathes as much as substance causing cancer as if he had smoked fifteen cigarettes.

Form the fact above, Smoking is really good for tobaccocompanies because they do make much money from smokinghabit. Smoking however is not good for every body else
