CEPOL brings together senior police officers across Europe with the aim to encourage cross-border cooperation in the fi ght against crime and maintenance of public security and law and order. Established as an agency of the European Union (EU) in 2005, the CEPOL secretariat is based at Bramshill in the United Kingdom, approximately 70km from central London.CEPOL operates as a network where the activities - courses, seminars, conferences and meetings - are implemented in and by Member States, mainly at the national senior police training institutes. CEPOL organises between 70-100 courses, seminars and conferences per year which cover a wide-range of topics relevant to policing in Europe today. CEPOL’s vision is that the agency is acknowledged by allied agencies and authorities in the policing and academic world to be the primary source of learning and development in the fi eld of education and training for better cooperation and policing in Europe. The acronym CEPOL is French and stands for Collège Européen de Police - European Police College (in English).CEPOL has an annual budget of 7.8 million euro (2010) funded by the European Communities.
