Workshop Details Dress Code The dress code for the workshop and including the welcome dinner is smart casual. For the site visit, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing. You can download these documents at https://www.unisdr.org/campaign/resilientcities/home/toolkit Participant’s Poster Presentation Please use the one-slide template provided to you and send to the organizers in advance. On Day No. 1, each participant will be required to present their one-slide power point by means of a self-introduction and research interests for a maximum of five minutes only. Please submit your PPT slide to DLSU organizers ([email protected]) so that your one slide power point is uploaded in the workshop computer. Liability and Insurance It is strongly recommended that particpants arrange a personal health and travel insurance. The organisers will not assume responsibility for injury or damage to persons or property during the period of your stay in Manila. Getting to the Workshop Venue By Air Delegates travelling by air will arrive Manila via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). Terminal 1 is exclusive to international air travel. Terminal 2 is for Philippine Airlines passengers. Terminal 3 serves both international and domestic flights to Manila. While Terminal 4 is exclusive to domestic air travel. International terminals have ATMs, money exchange, restaurants, and tax-free shops. Getting to the workshop venue from the airport Delegates arriving from the airport need to arrange this by themselves. There are different ways to get to the conference venue from the airport. By metered airport (yellow) taxi cabs: Airport metered taxis are available right outside the arrival areas of the airport. These “yellow” airport taxis have a flagdown rate of P70.00 (about £1.05). For every 300 meters traveled, an additional P4.00 (about £0.06 or 6p) will be added to the fare. Airport taxis are under the control and supervision of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

By coupon taxis: Unlike the metered airport taxis, coupon taxis have fixed rates depending on the destination. Coupon taxis have a separate loading area from the metered cabs. It is recommended to transact with authorized personnel to ensure reasonable prices. Coupon taxis are also under the supervision and control of the MIAA. Although there are regular metered cabs at the airport (white taxi cabs with a “TAXI” sign at the roof of the car), it is advisable to take either the metered airport taxi or coupon taxi cabs if delegates are arriving from the airport. Regular metered cabs at the airport may be cheaper but these are not regulated by the MIAA and may ask for an additional fare. By ride-hailing services: Ride-hailing services such as Grab and Uber are also available in Metro Manila. These services accept cash and credit card payments. By airport buses (UBE Express): Airport buses going to different areas in Metro Manila are also available. Passengers coming from the airport can take the airport bus (Ube Express) and take the Robinsons Route and disembark at the Century Park stop. Note: It is strongly recommended to inform the driver that you are disembarking at Century Park Hotel. Estimated fare is P150.00 (about £2.25). Getting to the workshop venue from other areas in Metro Manila Public transport services are readily available around Metro Manila. Delegates taking buses or jeepneys may disembark at Vito Cruz or Pablo Ocampo and make a short walk to the conference venue. Likewise, taxis and ride-hailing services are the most convenient travel options to the conference venues. Delegates using the using the light rail (elevated rail) services should alight at Vito Cruz Station. From there, walk towards the Philippine Sports Commission and cross the Adriatico intersection towards the conference venue. Internet Access

• Wi-fi services is available in the conference venue. • Overseas delegates may opt to purchase tourist prepaid SIM cards upon arrival at the airport. Just

present a copy of your foreign passport at the telecommunication providers booth. There are two (2) major telecommunications network in the Philippines: Smart and Globe.

o SMART LTE Tourist SIM - A SMART Tourist SIM is FREE for tourists arriving at any international airport in the country.

o Globe Traveler SIM - A Globe Traveler SIM is FREE for people living or working outside the Philippines. Just visit any Globe booth upon arriving at the airport.

Time and Climate

• The Philippines is 8 hours ahead of the United Kingdom. (UTC +08:00). The Philippines is a tropical

country and normally experiences warm weather and rain showers. During January, temperatures range from 21 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Currency • The Philippine Currency is Philippine Peso (Pesos). The currency code is PHP. The currency

exchange rates shown are as of 27th December 2017. Rates used within the Philippines may vary. It is advised to check on the up to date rates. There are automated teller machines (ATMs) and currency exchange booths at the airport.

Overseas ATM cards can be used in Philippine ATMs that carry the Visa electron, Plus, or Bancnet logos. However, there are charges for transactions. Delegates withdrawing from local ATMs should confirm with their banks regarding international ATM access. Most business establishments in Metro Manila accept credit cards. Some display an “Accepts VISA or MasterCard sign at their entrance”. It is advised to ask the establishment if they accept credit before purchasing or dining.

Venues for other associated activities Makati City is Philippine’s premier business district. It has the largest concentration of commercial activities in the Philippines, and is the country’s primary link to international finance and the global economy. With 2.75 million square meters of prime office space as of the end of 2010, the City’s business district is 5.56 times larger than the second largest (Bonifacio Global City) in the country, and accounts for 60% of Metro Manila’s prime office space inventory of 4.5 million square meters.

Real estate establishments including office and commercial space play an important role in the City’s economy. Many commercial and office establishments are in the Ayala-owned Central Business District (CBD) which houses the headquarters of almost 40% of all companies listed in the top 1,000 corporations. In addition to the CBD, the Rockwell Center in Barangay Poblacion likewise plays host to commercial and business activities in the City. Commercial centers and wet markets also provide a steady supply of commercial spaces in the City. Major commercial centers include Ayala Center (Glorietta I to V and Greenbelt I to V), South Gate Mall, Guadalupe Commercial Center, A Venue, Unimec, and Power Plant.

Key Places to Visit in Makati City

• Ayala Center – a shopping mall complex featuring two of the biggest malls in the city, Greenbelt and Glorietta.

• Ayala Museum – a rich display of dioramas which depict various moments in Philippine history and paintings of renowned artists in the 19th century.

• Ayala Triangle Garden – boasts a collection of contemporary art amidst lush greenery

Tourist attractions near the workshop venue Luneta Park / Intramuros (Cultural/Historical)

• Luneta park is a 60-hectare park consisting of open lawns, gardens, ponds, walkways, and wooded areas. It is also home to different monuments of Filipino heroes, of which, the most famous is the monument of Philippine National hero Jose Rizal. The monument, which fronts the flagpole, is guarded by sentries in full regalia. To the side of the monument, the site of Rizal’s execution can be found. At the middle of the park, one will find the Central Lagoon. At the east end of the park, a large statue of Lapu-Lapu, a 16th century hero famous for leading the resistance against Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, can be found.

• Intramuros is the oldest district of Manila City. It is known as a “walled city” because of a three-mile-long circuit of massive stone walls that surrounds the entire district. Major attractions include the San Agustin Church, Manila Cathedral, and Fort Santiago. Visitors can tour Intramuros either by foot or by calesa (horse-drawn carriages).

National Museum (Museum)

• The National Museum is an educational, scientific and cultural institution that acquires, documents, preserves, exhibits, and fosters scholarly study and public appreciation of works of art, specimens, and cultural and historical artifacts representative of our unique to the cultural heritage of the Filipino people and the natural history of the Philippines. Some famous pieces inside the museum is Juan Luna’s Spolarium and the pre-historic Manunggul jar.

CCP Contemporary Art Museum of the Philippines • The CCP Museum is the largest museum of contempor ary

arts in the Philippines. It is geared towards featuring a broad spectrum of exhibits that characterizes and encompasses the Philippine society and culture. These exhibits range from traditional musical instruments to avant-garde bamboo installations, modern and contemporary Filipino sculpture, paintings and other visual arts from 1920-70, and paintings done by Fernando Amorsolo and Hernando Ocampo.
