Inc.In October I attended the NationalIndustrial Fastener and Mill Supply Expo,in Las Vegas, and I have a renewedexcitement about the SEFA springconference (in conjunction with theSouthwestern Fastener Association)coming in April of 2017 to New Orleans. I really enjoyed my time in Vegas at theSEFA booth, meeting some of our currentmembers and discussing the upcomingspring event. There was also a lot ofinterest from "outsiders", potential SEFAmembers, who really seemed excitedabout the possibility of giving us a test runin New Orleans. We had to reprint more of our springconference brochures, for the show,because of the interest in the event. So myencouragement to each of you reading thiswould be to reach out to non-membersthat you deal with on a regular basis andencourage them to get involved and join usin New Orleans. It is an exciting and funplace to have our conference. With theSouthwestern Association participatingalso, it will be bigger than ever and a greatnetworking opportunity. We will also beholding a Table Top Show. In fact the Board just returned from aBoard Meeting at the Astor Crowne Plaza,where the conference will be held. Thelocation is great as it’s within walkingdistance of many great restaurants andshops. You walk right out onto Bourbon St. as you exit the hotel.I love forward to seeing everyone in New Orleans! Training and education play a key role in the success of an industry and theindividuals working in it. Recent research suggests skills gaps and lack of industryspecific knowledge as major contributors that prevent companies from growing.A well trained and knowledgeable work force is the best way to address this issue.The fastener industry offers a wide range of fastener training tools and classes froma variety of organizations, like SEFA. In Sept. SEFA conducted a Beyond BasicsFastener Training seminar as a follow up to it's previously conducted Basic FastenerTraining seminar. During the 2 day event participants received technical training on topics such asplating specifications, heat treating specifications, and PPAP documentation andprocess. Regarding manufacturing processes, this training seminar focused on hotforging with tours provided by Birmingham Fastener and Ameribolt. SEFA wouldlike to thank Birmingham Fastener and Ameribolt not only for educatingparticipants about hot forging and conducting tours, but also for hosting this event.Looking forward to seeing you at SEFA's next training seminar.
