Lifting the toilet lid on our treatmentGut health is finally in the forefront of medical awareness. Bowel cancer is second to lung cancer in lives that it takes each year, it is also the most preventable, through diet and exercise.

Colonic irrigation has been around since the beginning of time, with documentation that the Egyptians would carry out this therapy using hollow bamboo! You will hear phrases such as enemas, open systems, closed systems, colema boards, coffee enemas, so to be clear we use a closed system of colonics. This is where the patient has a tube inserted into their rectum; there is no force, this tube has two tubes attached one for taking warm filtered water into the bowel and one for taking the waste matter away. The therapist is with you at all times, massaging your tummy to assist elimination, you are lying on your back with knees bent and a sheet over you. It is discreet and a person’s integrity is ensured at all times.

The treatment can last from 30 to 45 minutes and the patient has complete control at all times. While initially patients are anxious, normally after 10 minutes on the table with the water circulating the bowel, a heat pack on their tummy starts to make them feel relaxed and the process begins of filling and emptying to promote peristalsis and emptying of the waste matter. At the conclusion of the treatment, the patients spends 5 minutes on the toilet, before leaving to get on with their day, on most occasions feeling clean, re-energised and connected to their wonderful life.

The Bottoms Up StoryBottoms Up Colonics was established 11 years ago (2005) in the base of Cathu State Forest, 1 hour South of Airlie Beach and 1 hr North of Mackay, Queensland. This initial clinic was set in a healing retreat owned by the founder Sue Wilson, with a 20 year history in social work healing peoples trauma from abuse, it was the start of much needed healing for Sue along with developing her skills in nutrition, cleansing, spiritual healing, bodywork and closed colon hydrotherapy.

The History of Colon HydrotherapyIn pre-revolutionary France a daily enema after dinner was de rigueur. It was not only considered indispensable for health but practiced for good complexion as well.

The 17th century became known as the “age of the enema”. It was the fashion in Parisian society to enjoy as many as three or four enemas a day, the popular belief being that an internal washing or “lavement” was essential to well-being. It was this acceptance by the public that took the enema or clyster from the hands of an apothecary and put it into the hands of the public.

In 2016 our health is our ever increasing concern with heart disease, cancer and diabetes on the rise like never before. Fortunately since the 17th century we have become a little more advanced in practicing this age old method therapy! Not only are all of or devices and disposable tubing and speculums TGA approved, we also use a technique that allows soaking of the colon, offering a deeper cellular cleanse that the founder bought back from the Colon Whisperer in America, Luis Rojas.

Extensive colon training combined with the founders 20 years in psychotherapy/counselling, training in body work, energy work and nutrition for cleansing has allowed Bottoms Up to be delivered as ‘a whole system of care’ that leaves our clients satisfied and wanting more.
