O CA Cleveland Chapter started an outreach program in 2009 with the O CA ImageTV for the Asian Pacific American (APA) community, a 30 minutes television showthat features the our community s cultural differences. The television magazinewas aired throughout Cleveland via Time Warner Cable s TV20 and was availableonline at numerous websites and iTunes. It has garnered positive impact andinterest that during one discussion session, the few community leaders sat

together and put forth a plan to further foster the growth of our community, which how Cleveland Asian Festival was founded: by community membersputting aside our differences to work together in achieving a goal.

Cleveland Asian Festival has increased from 10,000 attendees on our inaugural first yearMay 22, 2010 to 31,060 attendees on May 21 -22, 2011. The increase of visitors hashelped blossom the hidden gem of our AsiaTown Community.

The Cleveland Asian Festival has brought anincreased level of attention to theneighborhood by highlighting the uniquecultural amenities available as well asincreasing the knowledge of AsiaTown

regionally. This increased awareness andexcitement is partially responsible for theexpansion and attraction of businesses. Asawareness grows the ability to sustainrestaurants, grocery stores and retail shopsonly increases. The Cleveland Asian Festival

has been key to branding the neighborhoodAsiaTown and creating a comfort level forpeople to invest, enjoy and visit.

A secondary goal of the Cleveland Asian Festival is to promote the area and increase thequality of life of residents by providing knowledge and understanding and celebrating theculture of the Asian population in the most densely populated Asian population in urbanO hio.

    Posters designed by Jesse Smith

The success of a festival should come within our community, we commissioned localartist to design the poster of the festival, we believe that: to be able to attract many, theposter design must be elegant, attractive to festival goers or new visitors, while holdingour Asian ethnic diversity within each design layer: Bambo = friendship, Koy Fish =abundance (in pairs), Lotus/Flower = Asian countries national flower, color scheme =Countries representative.
