Stewardship Reflection: 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time “…for whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” L 18:14 Pride and ego is the root cause of most of our sins. Thinking your time is so valuable, your talent is better than anyone else and your money gives you status is another way of making those things “gods” before God. Remember all those gifts were God-given. Instead we should be humbled by God’s abundant generosity and our hearts should overflow with gratitude.

MY SHARE TO HELP
Dear Parishioners, In today’s Gospel, the Pharisee comes to God with a list of his own accomplishments, expecting God to agree with him. He is almost arrogant in his approach, seemingly treating God as an equal instead of his creator. The tax collector approaches God with humility, recognizing his own unworthiness and poverty of spirit. He knows his place before the almighty and approaches God as Lord of all. The moral of the story of the Pharisee and the tax collector is that those who exalt themselves will be humbled and the humble exalted. It’s humility that brings down the proud and lifts up the lowly. When we come before God with humble hearts asking for his mercy, He grants us holiness in proportion to our humility. Pride drives away God’s gift of holiness, but humility invites it in. We ask the Lord to help us to have humble hearts - to recognize our dependence on Him. It is only then that He can truly work in our lives. In Christ, Msgr. Emery

SAINT ALOYSIUS CHURCH October 25/26, 2019
THREE WEEKS REMAINING!!
LET’S KEEP UP OUR MOMENTUM!!!
Our Increased Offertory Program has seen a tremendous level of support. With over 190 responses and an average offertory increase of 41% we invite every household to consider participating in this important endeavor.
Thank you to all those who have responded thus far. Our parish community continues to be supportive by making their intention to this effort. In doing so we are able to better serve the needs of our community through our ministries, faith formation opportunities and social concerns programs.
THERE IS STILL TIME TO PARTICIPATE!!!
With a few weeks remaining we invite you and every registered household to consider taking a step, or two, in your contribution to the parish by increasing your Sunday offering by 20%-50%.
Commitment Brochures were available at Mass last weekend and have been mailed to each registered household over the last few weeks. You may use the envelope provided with the Commitment Brochure, and return your completed intention via USPS, place it in the Sunday collection basket, or you may bring it directly to the parish office.
Electronic Giving
Electronic/Online Giving is a convenient no hassle method, of making your Sunday offertory to the church. For more information or to sign up you can visit https://stalscaldwell.org/ and click on the Parish Giving tab. You can also contact the parish office for more details. If you are a current online giving user and you participate in the Increased Offertory Program you will need to log into your account and update your giving to reflect your intention.

The Pumpkin Prayer Open my mind so that I can learn about You. Cut off the top of the Pumpkin Take away my sins and forgive me for the wrong that I do Clean out the inside Open my eyes so Your love I will see. Cut out the eyes I am sorry for turning up my nose to some things You have given me. Cut out the nose Open my mouth to spread Your Good News. Cut out the mouth Let Your light shine in me so others can see. Place a candle inside the pumpkin

Bulletin Quote ~ It is a common teaching of the Saints that one of the principal means of leading a good and exemplary life is certainly modesty and the mortification of the eyes. Just as there is nothing better than modesty to preserve devotion in a soul and to edify one's neighbor, so too, there is nothing worse than immodesty and licentious glances to expose a person to the danger of becoming lax and loose in morals. - St. Alphonsus Rodriguez (1532-1617), Patron of Majorca, Feast Day October 30

Prayer for Creation
by Pope Francis
All powerful God, you
are present in the whole Universe and in
the smallest of all creatures. Your embrace with
your tenderness is all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one!
