Obituary

John Everett Jackson, Jr., also known as “Jack” and “Junior,” was born on June 13, 1931, in

Washington D.C., to the late John and the late Willie Bell Jackson. He was the only child born

of this union. Jack was raised by his parents and other loving members of their extended

family. His childhood was much like a story in a book. He and his four male cousins: Bernard,

George, Baby, and Eugene did what little boys do. They threw rocks at a rooster they did not

like; they ate fruit from various yards; they walked on forbidden railroad tracks, and they swam

in murky water.

Jack and his schoolmates attended local schools in Washington, D.C., after which they planned

to join the military. When the time came, they went together to the local recruiter’s office;

believe it or not, all were enlisted except Jack. He failed the physical because of his high blood

pressure. This heartbroken young man went home to consider his other options.

For the next few years, Jack worked hard at whatever type of work he could find. He

ultimately established Jackson Janitorial Services which contracted with the Federal

Government. He did not talk much about his future plans as he was a private guy. Time

marched on.

In 1957, Jack met the woman who was to become the love of his life, Kathleen. She was a

widow with a beautiful little girl named Brenda. Now he had his own family, but something

was missing. Soon Jack found the missing link while watching television. He heard this

dynamic preacher teaching on television, and he liked what he heard. While Jack had always

gone to church throughout his life, this preacher made church more meaningful. That preacher

was the late John A. Cherry, founding pastor of From the Heart Church Ministries. In 1991,

Jack and Kathleen joined From the Heart, and were involved in the life of the church. He

loved his church family, and tried to show his family how much he loved them as well. Jack

loved to laugh and welcomed old friends and family to his home. His wife loved him

unconditionally as a friend and husband. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved

him.

Jack leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Kathleen; stepdaughter, Brenda Greene; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

“I NEEDED THE QUIET”

(Author Unknown)

I needed the quiet, so He drew me aside

Into the shadows, where we could confide,

Away from the bustle, where all the day long

I hurried and worried, when active and strong;

I needed the quiet, tho at first I rebelled

But gently, so gently, my cross He upheld,

And whispered so sweetly, of spiritual things

Tho weakened in body, my spirit took wings;

To heights never dreamed of, when active and gay

He loved me so gently, He drew me away

I needed the quiet, no prison my bed

But a beautiful valley, of blessings instead;

A place to grow richer, in Jesus to hide

I needed the quiet, so He drew me aside.
