The Gospel of John Intro
The Gospel of John presents to us a story. It is the story of God. About the glory of His character, the nature of His life & His desire to share that life w/His creatures. It is about how He came amongst us & how He received a mixed response to both His coming & His offer of eternal life.
Why John? I am commanded by scripture to teach you
the word of God (see 2nd Timothy 2:14-15; Titus 2:1). 2nd Timothy 2:14-15
▪ 14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Titus 2:1▪ 1 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
There are 4 gospels Mark - written w/a Roman audience in mind Matthew - written w/a Jewish audience in mind Luke - written w/a gentile audience in mind John - written w/a Greek audience in mind
John also writes to encourage new converts.

A commentary is a written exegesis of the bible. They are helpful in understanding the original intent of the scriptures so that you don’t misinterpret & consequently misapply them. A few that I will recommend are:
Commentaries in book form D.A. Carson – The Gospel According to John Chuck Swindoll – Comentario Swindoll del Nuevo
