Hydraulic System Hydraulic Pumps
Check piston springs for cracked or broken coils. Springs should compress to 1.62 inches at 34 to 40 lbs. Springs MUST match within 1. 5 lbs. of each other. Springs are replaced as aset. Be sure that color code is the same on all new springs in the set.
VALVES
Check discharge valve assembly and seat. If NECESSARY, carefully remove seatwithJDH-40 seat puller. Be sure that puller catches between seat and housing.
Fig. 9-lnstal/ing Discharge Valve Seat
To install seat, use JDH-39 seat driver and gently drive on seat shoulder until driver bottoms on finished face of discharge valve bore.
Check inlet valve assemblies in pump housing. Measure valve lift to determine if valve spring retainer is excessively worn. Liftshould be 0.0600 to 0.0800 inch. A cocked retainer can indicate a broken retaining ring.

Remove inlet valve assemblies (Fig. 10) ONLY if there is evidence of damage. Drive inlet valve assembly from housing with the aid of a discarded R27157 discharge valve guide (with chamfer ground off) and a driver with shoulder on it to fit guide.
Install new inlet valve assembly by preSSing in until end of guide is 0.5330 to 0.5370 inch from finished face of housing.
STROKE CONTROL AND CRANKCASE OUTLET VALVES
Disassemble stroke control and crankcase outlet valve assemblies (Fig. 12) ONLY if there is evidence of a malfunction. Use care when driving valve sleeves (9 and 24). Use a driver that is recessed in the center and will drive only on the outer edge of the sleeve.
Check stroke control valve and crankcase outlet valve assemblies (Fig. 12) for burrs, weak springs, eroded seats, leaking packings, or plugged pump crankcase filter screens.
The stroke control valve spring should compress to 3.30 inches at 125 to 1551bs. The crankcase outlet valve spring should compress to 2.20 inches at 45 to 55 lbs. pressure.
ASSEMBLY
NOTE': Always install new O-rings,packings, and oil seals. Use kit available. Dip all parts in clean Type 303 Special-Purpose Oil before assembly.
Install pump shaft bearing cup in housing.
Install quad ring and oil seal in pump housing. Coat lips of seal with SAE multipurposetype grease. Install seal with supplier's identification faCing outward, using JDH-18 sea 1 driver.
NOTE': Do not POSition oil seal beyond snap ring groove. To do so restricts oil relief outlet causing oil seal failure.
Install thrust washer, spacer, and roller bearings on splined end of pump shaft. Place needle bearing race over pump shaft cam and insert needle bearings around inner circum ference of race. Grease bearings to hold them in place. Install thrust washer, spacer, and roller bearings on pump shaft.
