enterprise systems> Real-time, batch transfer (differential, snap-shot methods)> IMS Enterprise, XML, ODBC, API, web services, text files, or other methods> Filter can run jobs, merge datasets, handle rules for integration> Minimal 3rd party involvement + out-of-the-box tools = reduced costs and

time > D2L also worked directly with SunGard (Banner) to create a Real-time

implementation using Luminis and the D2L LE Web Services> Reduced Implementation Resource Requirements

> Integration examples:> UW-System – 16 different SIS systems (most PeopleSoft) and central

authentication> TBR – 22 Banner Integrations> University of West Florida – SIS Integration &

SIS: Real-time Integration

> Web Services interface accessible via:> SOAP

> Security ensured via GUID> Same generate/validate approach as SSO

> Utilizes an approach similar to batch export> Import/Export Request is XML Based

> Filtering on Org Unit, Org Unit Type, Role, etc.

SIS Integration – Reporting

> Available with default deployment> Data Warehouse

> User Interface Reporting Tools

> Manual CSV export

> Data Integrity> Up to date with most recent Reporting Push

> Typically Weekly or Nightly

> Services Available> Custom Data Extracts

> Automated Extracts

Page 58: John Baker, President & CEO John.Baker@Desire2Learn.com Dan Ganesh, Account Executive Dan.Ganesh@Desire2Learn.com Stephan Meyer, Regional Sales Manager.

D2L Basic Authentication

> Default Authentication> Username/Password pair

> Passwords stored encrypted in D2L

> Commonly used for guests

> Issue: Users now need to remember another password

Page 59: John Baker, President & CEO John.Baker@Desire2Learn.com Dan Ganesh, Account Executive Dan.Ganesh@Desire2Learn.com Stephan Meyer, Regional Sales Manager.

LDAP Authentication

> Relatively “Standard” Integration> Configured through DOME

> Still a Username/Password pair ... BUT

> They are the same ones users are already familiar with

> Integration utilizes existing LDAP server> LDAP and D2L must have a common unique field

> Username, Student/Staff ID

> Users created via SIS Integration recommended

> Passwords are not stored in D2L

> Can be used in conjunction with D2L Basic Authentication for users that don’t exist in LDAP

Page 60: John Baker, President & CEO John.Baker@Desire2Learn.com Dan Ganesh, Account Executive Dan.Ganesh@Desire2Learn.com Stephan Meyer, Regional Sales Manager.

LDAP Authentication

Page 61: John Baker, President & CEO John.Baker@Desire2Learn.com Dan Ganesh, Account Executive Dan.Ganesh@Desire2Learn.com Stephan Meyer, Regional Sales Manager.

Single Sign-on Authentication

> Eliminates Username/Password pair altogether> Another system has already authenticated the user

> Several Key Use Cases> External System -> D2L

> D2L -> External System

> D2L site A -> D2L site B

> Implemented via GUID Exchange> GUID – Globally Unique Identifier

>Valid only for particular “destination” system

>Valid only for the user it was generated for

>Valid only for a limited lifetime (typically seconds)
