A. The DISPLAY

that was at the cross

Page 6: John 19:16-27

(Joh 19:16) Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And

they took Jesus, and led him away.

(Joh 19:17) And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place

of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

(Joh 19:18) Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side

one, and Jesus in the midst.

(Mar 15:29-30) And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah,

thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, Save thyself, and come down

from the cross.

B. The DIVISION

that comes at the cross

(Joh 19:16) Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And

they took Jesus, and led him away.

(Joh 19:17) And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of

a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

(Joh 19:18) Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

(Luk 12:51) Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay;

but rather division:

Page 11: John 19:16-27

(Luk 23:39-42) And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But

the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly;

for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember

me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

(Joh 19:19) And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was,

JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

(Joh 19:20) This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified

was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

(Joh 19:21) Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

(Joh 19:22) Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

(Heb 2:9) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he

by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

(Col 2:14-15) Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them

in it.

righteousness that hung on the cross

(Joh 19:23-24) Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his

garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast

lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which

saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast

lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

(2Co 5:21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

IV. The CHANGE from the cross

A. The DIFFERENT family that comes with the cross

Page 28: John 19:16-27

(Joh 19:26-27) When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom

he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the

disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that

disciple took her unto his own home.

(Luk 2:34-35) And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall

be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of

many hearts may be revealed.
